Targeted Pareto Optimization for Subset Selection With Monotone Objective Function and Cardinality Constraint

Subset selection, a fundamental problem in various domains, is to choose a subset of elements from a large candidate set under a given objective or multiple objectives. Pareto optimization for subset selection (POSS) has emerged as a powerful paradigm for addressing subset selection problems. Recently, some POSS variants have been proposed to further improve its performance. In this paper, we propose a new POSS variant, named Targeted Pareto Optimization for Subset Selection (TPOSS). TPOSS differs from POSS in four aspects: problem formulation, population initialization, mutation, and environmental selection. The main idea of TPOSS is to focus the search on the target region of subset selection with respect to the subset cardinality in order to improve the search efficiency. We conduct comprehensive experiments to compare TPOSS with six state-of-the-art algorithms on three subset selection tasks (i.e., sparse regression, unsupervised feature selection, and hypervolume subset selection) where the size of the candidate sets ranges from 20 to 400. Experimental results show that with respect to the objective value of the best feasible subset, TPOSS outperforms the other algorithms on all the three tasks, which suggests the potential of TPOSS to enhance subset selection in various domains. To enhance the expression ability of deep features and improve the tracking performance of the fully convolutional siamese network (SiamFC) in the UAV scene, we propose a UAV visual tracking algorithm based on feature fusion of the attention mechanism. By designing the local perception attention module and the global perception attention module to enhance the features extracted from the backbone network, a set of complementary local enhanced features and global enhanced features are obtained. And then, the tracking response map fused with the two features is then located, which effectively improves the tracking robustness of SiamFC in the UAV scene. The algorithm and nine other related algorithms such as SiamFC are tested on the DTB70 dataset. The experiments show that the algorithm has a good tracking performance and can adapt to the visual object tracking task in the UAV scene. © 2022 ACM.

●AIM:To investigate a pioneering framework for the segmentation of meibomian glands(MGs),using limited annotations to reduce the workload on ophthalmologists and enhance the efficiency of clinical diagnosis.●METHODS:Totally 203 infrared meibomian images from 138 patients with dry eye disease,accompanied by corresponding annotations,were gathered for the study.A rectified scribble-supervised gland segmentation(RSSGS)model,incorporating temporal ensemble prediction,uncertainty estimation,and a transformation equivariance constraint,was introduced to address constraints imposed by limited supervision information inherent in scribble *** viability and efficacy of the proposed model were assessed based on accuracy,intersection over union(IoU),and dice coefficient.●RESULTS:Using manual labels as the gold standard,RSSGS demonstrated outcomes with an accuracy of 93.54%,a dice coefficient of 78.02%,and an IoU of 64.18%.Notably,these performance metrics exceed the current weakly supervised state-of-the-art methods by 0.76%,2.06%,and 2.69%,***,despite achieving a substantial 80%reduction in annotation costs,it only lags behind fully annotated methods by 0.72%,1.51%,and 2.04%.●CONCLUSION:An innovative automatic segmentation model is developed for MGs in infrared eyelid images,using scribble annotation for *** model maintains an exceptionally high level of segmentation accuracy while substantially reducing training *** holds substantial utility for calculating clinical parameters,thereby greatly enhancing the diagnostic efficiency of ophthalmologists in evaluating meibomian gland dysfunction.

Traditional knowledge distillation adopts one teacher model to instruct the training of a lightweight student model. To improve the performance of knowledge distillation, multi-teacher knowledge distillation utilizing multi-party knowledge to guide model learning was proposed. However, existing methods mainly use the summation-result of teacher models of a single sample to integrate multi-party knowledge directly, ignoring the relation knowledge among samples. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-teacher knowledge distillation method, which utilizes the data relation knowledge to allocate weights for teachers adaptively. To obtain the data relation knowledge, we design output-based strategy and feature-based strategy, which would help to allocate more weight for the teacher who has better learned the data relation knowledge. Extensive experiments have demonstrated the performance and efficiency of our proposed multi-teacher knowledge distillation method.

The annotation for Chinese genealogy textual documents is helpful for constructing genealogy knowledge graph, training effective machine learning models for knowledge extraction, etc. However, this kind of documents is difficult to annotate. The primary reason is that the texts are written in both classical and vernacular Chinese. These texts also contain numerous ancient characters and are usually without punctuation. Understanding genealogy texts requires sufficient expertise. When multiple users labeling the same text, conflicts may occur. Existing annotation tools are inappropriate for this work. In this paper, we propose a novel interactive labeling tool, which provides text segmenting, entity and relationship tagging etc. With the annotated information, it is convenient to construct knowledge graph from textual documents, which can be used to analyze Chinese genealogy texts. Furthermore, we introduce a weak supervised mechanism with Hidden Markov Model for collaborative annotating with crowdsourcing. The practice shows that our approach is effective for collaborative annotation. It also facilitates the construction of knowledge graph and obtains more high-quality data sets. At present, this annotation tool has been applied into service. © 2023 IEEE.

As the largest source of technical information around the world, patents are regarded as an essential crystallization and carrier of knowledge and technological innovation. Patent transformation is conducive not only to enhancing economic efficiency, but also to improving productivity and the rational utilization of resources. There is an imbalance between high patent ownership and low transformation rates. We try to predict the occurrence of transformation events from the patent assignment. However, there are some challenges in predicting patent transformation: (1) how to capture transformation features of patents, especially combined with the transfer time factor. (2) how to predict patent transfer time effectively. To address these challenges, a Patent Transfer Time Forecasting Model (PTTFM) is proposed. The model includes: (1) extraction of time-varying features of patents. (2) the patent transfer time is forecast using a Neural Temporal Point Process. By testing the model on patents under different classifications, the experimental results are obtained to show that the proposed model is applicable to predict the timing of patent assignment within a certain time frame, especially one month. Our work may facilitate patent transformation while interpretability is ensured for transformation events. © 2023 IEEE.

Gastric cancer(GC)is one of the most common cancers and ranks the third in cancer mortality all over the *** goal of this study was to identify potential hub-genes,highlighting their functions,signaling pathways,and candidate drugs for the treatment of GC *** used publicly available next generation sequencing(NGS)data to identify differentially expressed(DE)*** top DE genes were mapped to STRING database to construct the protein-protein interaction(PPI)network and top hub genes were selected for further *** found a total of 1555 DE genes with 870 upregulated and 685 downregulated genes in *** selected the top 400(200 upregulated and 200 downregulated)genes to construct a PPI network and extracted the top 15 hub *** gene ontology(GO)term and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment analyses of the 15 hub genes exposed some important functions and signaling pathways that were significantly associated with GC *** survival analysis of the hub genes disclosed that the lower expressions of the three hub genes CDH2,COL4A1,and COL5A2 were associated with better survival of GC *** three genes might be the candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of ***,we considered 3 key proteins(genomic biomarkers)(COL4A1,CDH2,and CO5A2)as the drug target proteins(receptors),performed their docking analysis with the 102 meta-drug agents,and found Everolimus,Docetaxel,Lanreotide,Venetoclax,Temsirolimus,and Nilotinib as the top ranked 6 candidate drugs with respect to our proposed target proteins for the treatment against GC ***,the proposed drugs might play vital role for the treatment against GC patients.

Intellectual property transactions have shown a strong growth momentum in recent years, but the patent transaction market has been plagued by the matching degree of consumers and sellers, resulting in frequent problems such as low patent transformation efficiency and poor transaction quality. This paper proposes a method of recommending patents to consumers by experts to improve the environment of patent transactions. Through the analysis of the past transaction information of the patent, the effective path information of the target is extracted. The graph neural network is used to describe the characteristics and semantics among experts, patents and consumers, and then capture the potential weight among them through the common attention mechanism, and then dynamically integrate them to predict the occurrence of recommendation behavior. The paper makes reasonable use of social information and expert information in the transaction, which significantly improves the rationality and accuracy of expert recommendation. © 2023 IEEE.

Virtual Machine Consolidation (VMC) is an effective means to improve the resource utilization and reduce energy consumption of data centers. However, the VMC optimization that only considers energy consumption may lead to SLA (Service-Level Agreements) violations and thus fail to guarantee the QoS (Quality of Service) provided. Therefore, it is necessary to consider both energy saving and SLA violations in the process of VMC. In this paper, we propose an energy and SLA-aware VMC algorithm that considers both energy saving and SLA violation optimization in data centers. The proposed algorithm uses the local regression method to predict the utilization of virtual machines, based on which it determines whether the host will be overloaded, so as to make the decision of virtual machine migrations. The proposed VMC algorithm is evaluated with CloudSim toolkit. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm has good energy saving performance and can effectively reduce SLA violation in cloud data center. Considering energy consumption and SLA violation, the ESV can be reduced by 7.57% on average and 16.36% at most compared with other algorithms.

In specific scenarios, face sketch can be used to identify a person. However, drawing a face sketch often requires exceptional skill and is time-consuming, limiting its widespread applications in actual scenarios. The new framework of sketch less face image retrieval (SLFIR)[1] attempts to overcome the barriers by providing a means for humans and machines to interact during the drawing process. Considering SLFIR problem, there is a large gap between a partial sketch with few strokes and any whole face photo, resulting in poor performance at the early stages. In this study, we propose a multigranularity (MG) representation learning (MGRL) method to address the SLFIR problem, in which we learn the representation of different granularity regions for a partial sketch, and then, by combining all MG regions of the sketches and images, the final distance was determined. In the experiments, our method outperformed state-of-the-art baselines in terms of early retrieval on two accessible datasets. Codes are available at https://***/ddw2AIGROUP2CQUPT/MGRL.
