Software vulnerabilities are a major cyber threat and it is important to detect them. One important approach to detecting vulnerabilities is to use deep learning while treating a program function as a whole, known as function-level vulnerability detectors. However, the limitation of this approach is not understood. In this paper, we investigate its limitation in detecting one class of vulnerabilities known as inter-procedural vulnerabilities, where the to-be-patched statements and the vulnerability-triggering statements belong to different functions. For this purpose, we create the first Inter -Procedural Vulnerability dataset (InterPVD) based on C/C++ open-source software, and we propose a tool dubbed VulTrigger for identifying vulnerability-triggering statements across functions. Experimental results show that VulTrigger can effectively identify vulnerability-triggering statements and inter-procedural vulnerabilities. Our findings include: (i) inter-procedural vulnerabilities are prevalent with an average of 2.8 inter-procedural layers;and (ii) function-level vulner-ability detectors are much less effective in detecting to-be-patched functions of inter-procedural vulnerabilities than detecting their counterparts of intra-procedural vulnerabilities. © 2024 ACM.

With the rapid development of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, edge devices such as sensors, smartphones, and wearable devices have become increasingly prevalent. The massive amount of distributed data generated by these devices offers unprecedented opportunities for deep learning, especially in fields like computer vision and edge computing. However, this data often exists in isolated data silos, and due to its privacy-sensitive nature, it cannot be directly processed in a centralized manner. Additionally, the data heterogeneity and devices heterogeneity further exacer-bates the challenges in federated learning (FL). Moreover, with the implementation of data privacy protection regulations, user demand for privacy protection is growing significantly. Therefore, how to effectively utilize dispersed data for distributed collaborative learning while ensuring data privacy is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed in the field of FL. In response to these challenges, this work has conducted research on clustering and segmentation FL algorithms for heterogeneous resource-constrained devices. A lightweight homogeneous device clustering strategy has been designed, which incorporates a split learning (SL) mechanism to enhance the accuracy and training efficiency of FL models. This approach reduces the load on resource-constrained devices and improves privacy security. Consequently, this method can meet the dual requirements of privacy protection and computational efficiency in real-world scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

Optimal Transport (OT) theory seeks to determine the map T : X → Y that transports a source measure P to a target measure Q, minimizing the cost c(x, T(x)) between x and its image T(x). Building upon the Input Convex Neural Network OT solver (Makkuva et al., 2020;Amos et al., 2017) and incorporating the concept of displacement-sparse maps (Cuturi et al., 2023), we introduce a sparsity penalty into the minimax Wasserstein formulation, promote sparsity in displacement vectors ∆(x):= T(x) − x, and enhance the interpretability of the resulting map. However, increasing sparsity often reduces feasibility, causing T#(P) to deviate more significantly from the target measure. In low-dimensional settings, we propose a heuristic framework to balance the tradeoff between sparsity and feasibility by dynamically adjusting the sparsity intensity parameter during training. For high-dimensional settings, we directly constrain the dimensionality of displacement vectors by enforcing dim(∆(x)) ≤ l, where l d. Among maps satisfying this constraint, we aim to identify the most feasible one. This goal can be effectively achieved by adapting our low-dimensional heuristic framework without resorting to dimensionality reduction. We validate our method on both synthesized sc-RNA and real 4i cell perturbation datasets, demonstrating improvements over existing methods. © 2025, CC BY.

Space exploration has been revolutionized by deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) technologies, enabling advanced data analysis, spacecraft navigation, and mission planning. However, the increasing reliance on digital systems also introduces new cybersecurity vulnerabilities. This research presents a comprehensive literature review of how ML and DL can enhance mission effectiveness while mitigating these risks. By examining over 50 research articles, we identify significant advancements and challenges in space mission cybersecurity, with a particular focus on DL for threat detection, risk assessment, and system protection. Our findings highlight the potential of DL to address emerging cybersecurity threats and improve the overall security and efficiency of space missions. This work aims to provide a foundation for developing robust and secure AI-powered systems for future space exploration endeavors. In the process of large-scale industrial production, complex defects of different shapes and sizes can occur in industrial products and their components, and these defects seriously affect the performance of industrial products and their components, and being able to quickly and accurately identify defective industrial products and their components is an important task. Memory-based methods are usually used for anomaly detection, and these methods often rely on pre-trained models for feature extraction, but have high requirements on feature quality. In addition, patch-based methods mainly focus on local differences in feature embedding when detecting anomalies without explicitly exploiting broader contextual information, thus greatly affecting the robustness and accuracy of anomaly detection. Aiming at the above problems and requirements, this paper proposes a Feature Aggregation Network for Memory-Based Industrial Anomaly Detection (FANet), which is based on the pre-extraction of anomalous features, attentional attention to key features, information aggregation of multi-level and multi-scale features, and the FANet provides advanced performance in industrial image anomaly detection and localisation by pre-extraction of anomalous features, attentional attention to key features, information aggregation of multi-layered and multi-scale features, and introduction of environmental information in the anomaly score computation to perform industrial anomaly detection tasks, and using core set subsampling to reduce storage requirements. On the MVTec AD, FANet has an image-level AUROC score of 99.1% and a pixel-level AUROC score of 98.2%. Similarly high detection results were achieved on the ViSA dataset, further demonstrating the robustness of FANet. © 2024 IEEE.

Training machine learning (ML) models on mobile and Web-of-Things (WoT) has been widely acknowledged and employed as a promising solution to privacy-preserving ML. However, these end-devices often suffer from constrained resources and fail to accommodate increasingly large ML models that crave great computation power. Offloading ML models partially to the cloud for training strikes a trade-off between privacy preservation and resource requirements. However, device-cloud training creates communication overheads that delay model training tremendously. This paper presents EdgeMove, the first device-edge training scheme that enables fast pipelined model training across edge devices and edge servers. It employs probing-based mechanisms to tackle the new challenges raised by device-edge training. Before training begins, it probes nearby edge servers' training performance and bootstraps model training by constructing a training pipeline with an approximate model partitioning. During the training process, EdgeMove accommodates user mobility and system dynamics by probing nearby edge servers' training performance adaptively and adapting the training pipeline proactively. Extensive experiments are conducted with two popular DNN models trained on four datasets for three ML tasks. The results demonstrate that EdgeMove achieves a 1.3 × -2.1 × speedup over the state-of-the-art scheme. © 2023 ACM.

The fair and objective assessment of performances and competitions is a common pursuit and challenge in human society. The application of computer vision technology offers hope for this purpose, but it still faces obstacles such as occlusion and motion blur. To address these hindrances, our DanceFix proposes a bidirectional spatial-temporal context optical flow correction (BOFC) method. This approach leverages the consistency and complementarity of motion information between two modalities: optical flow, which excels at pixel capture, and lightweight skeleton data. It enables the extraction of pixel-level motion changes and the correction of abnormal skeleton data. Furthermore, we propose a part-level dance dataset (Dancer Parts) and part-level motion feature extraction based on task decoupling (PETD). This aims to decouple complex whole-body parts tracking into fine-grained limb-level motion extraction, enhancing the confidence of temporal information and the accuracy of correction for abnormal data. Finally, we present the DNV dataset, which simulates fully neat group dance scenes and provides reliable labels and validation methods for the newly introduced group dance neatness assessment (GDNA). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to develop quantitative criteria for assessing limb and joint neatness in group dance. We conduct experiments on DNV and video-based public JHMDB datasets. Our method effectively corrects abnormal skeleton points, flexibly embeds, and improves the accuracy of existing pose estimation algorithms. Due to over-abundant information on the Web, information filtering becomes a key task for online users to obtain relevant suggestions and how to extract the most related item is always a key topic for researchers in various fields. In this paper, we adopt tools used to analyze complex networks to evaluate user reputation and item quality. In our proposed Accumulative Time Based Ranking (ATR) algorithm, we take into account the growth record of the network to identify the evolution of the reputation of users and the quality of items, by incorporating two behavior weighting factors which can capture the hidden facts on reputation and quality dynamics for each user and item respectively. Our proposed ATR algorithm mainly combines the iterative approach to rank user reputation and item quality with temporal dependence compared with other reputation evaluation methods. We show that our algorithm outperforms other benchmark ranking algorithms in terms of precision and robustness on empirical datasets from various online retailers and the citation datasets among research publications. Therefore, our proposed method has the capability to effectively evaluate user reputation and item quality.

Active disturbance-rejection methods are effective in estimating and rejecting disturbances in both transient and steady-state *** paper presents a deep observation on and a comparison between two of those methods:the generalized extended-state observer(GESO)and the equivalent input disturbance(EID)from assumptions,system configurations,stability conditions,system design,disturbance-rejection performance,and extensibility.A time-domain index is introduced to assess the disturbance-rejection performance.A detailed observation of disturbance-suppression mechanisms reveals the superiority of the EID approach over the GESO method.A comparison between these two methods shows that assumptions on disturbances are more practical and the adjustment of disturbance-rejection performance is easier for the EID approach than for the GESO method.

Protein-protein interactions are of great significance for human to understand the functional mechanisms of *** the rapid development of high-throughput genomic technologies,massive protein-protein interaction(PPI)data have been generated,making it very difficult to analyze them *** address this problem,this paper presents a distributed framework by reimplementing one of state-of-the-art algorithms,i.e.,CoFex,using *** do so,an in-depth analysis of its limitations is conducted from the perspectives of efficiency and memory consumption when applying it for large-scale PPI data analysis and *** solutions are then devised to overcome these *** particular,we adopt a novel tree-based data structure to reduce the heavy memory consumption caused by the huge sequence information of *** that,its procedure is modified by following the MapReduce framework to take the prediction task distributively.A series of extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of our framework in terms of both efficiency and *** results well demonstrate that the proposed framework can considerably improve its computational efficiency by more than two orders of magnitude while retaining the same high accuracy.
