Enhancing action discrimination via category-specific frame clustering for weakly-supervised temporal action localization

Temporal action localization (TAL) is a task of detecting the start and end timestamps of action instances and classifying them in an untrimmed video. As the number of action categories per video increases, existing weakly-supervised TAL (W-TAL) methods with only video-level labels cannot provide sufficient supervision. Single-frame supervision has attracted the interest of researchers. Existing paradigms model single-frame annotations from the perspective of video snippet sequences, neglect action discrimination of annotated frames, and do not pay sufficient attention to their correlations in the same category. Considering a category, the annotated frames exhibit distinctive appearance characteristics or clear action ***, a novel method to enhance action discrimination via category-specific frame clustering for W-TAL is proposed. Specifically,the K-means clustering algorithm is employed to aggregate the annotated discriminative frames of the same category, which are regarded as exemplars to exhibit the characteristics of the action category. Then, the class activation scores are obtained by calculating the similarities between a frame and exemplars of various categories. Category-specific representation modeling can provide complimentary guidance to snippet sequence modeling in the mainline. As a result, a convex combination fusion mechanism is presented for annotated frames and snippet sequences to enhance the consistency properties of action discrimination,which can generate a robust class activation sequence for precise action classification and localization. Due to the supplementary guidance of action discriminative enhancement for video snippet sequences, our method outperforms existing single-frame annotation based methods. Experiments conducted on three datasets (THUMOS14, GTEA, and BEOID) show that our method achieves high localization performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.

High-resolution multispectral (HRMS) images combine spatial and spectral information originating from panchromatic (PAN) and reduced-resolution multispectral (LRMS) images. Pansharpening performs well and is widely used to obtain HRMS images. However, most pansharpening approaches determine the ratio of PAN and LRMS images through direct interpolation, which may introduce artifacts and distort the color of the fused results. To address this issue, an unsupervised progressive pansharpening framework, MSBANet, is proposed, which adopts a multistage fusion strategy. Each stage contains an attention interactive extraction module (AIEM) and a multiscale bilateral fusion module (MBFM). The AIEM extracts spatial and spectral features from input images and captures the correlations between features. The MBFM can efficiently integrate information from the AIEM and improve MSBANet context awareness. We design a hybrid loss function that enhances the ability of the fusion network to store spectral and texture details. In qualitative and quantitative experimental studies on four datasets, MSBANet outperformed state-of-the-art pansharpening techniques. The code will be released. © 2024 IEEE.

Improving Retrieval Augmented Open-Domain Question-Answering with Vectorized Contexts

In the era of large language models, applying techniques such as Retrieval Augmented Generation can better address Open-Domain Question-Answering problems. Due to constraints including model sizes and computing resources, the length of context is often limited, and it becomes challenging to empower the model to cover overlong contexts while answering questions from open domains. This paper proposes a general and convenient method to cover longer contexts in Open-Domain Question-Answering tasks. It leverages a small encoder and cross-attention mechanism and effectively encodes contexts. With our method, the original language models can cover several times longer contexts while keeping the computing requirements close to the baseline. Our experiments demonstrate that after finetuning, there is improved performance across two held-in datasets, four held-out datasets, and also in two In Context Learning settings. The intellectual and immense attainment of a smart city and auto-mobile vehicles are gradually growing. This growth drives Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET), a broadly operated complex network for inter-vehicular transmission to acquire information relevant to the vehicle location, road condition, traffic congestion, and speed. Generally, this information is procured through an open-source communication, which is susceptible to various security threats. In broad terms, the privacy of data in VANET is considered an imperative task. In this regard, many authentication protocols are formerly initiated for VANET. Most of these protocols are precarious owing to eavesdropping, replay, and impersonation attacks, etc. Furthermore, most existing protocols operates on enormous communication and computation rate, which turns them inadequate for VANET. This paper exhibits a lightweight privacy-preserving authentication protocol for n number of vehicles in VANET using the physical unclonable function (PUF) technique, and offers efficient and secure communication via public channels. Moreover, we evaluate our protocol formally and informally, showing that it is scalable, lightweight, and safe compared to formerly protocols. The rate of computation and communication is less than most related protocols. We also simulate the proposed scheme using the NS-3 simulator to measure its various network performance parameters. As a result, it is apparent through the beheld statistics that the presented protocol is beyond practical, efficient, and reliable for the secure dissemination of information in VANET. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Recently, heterogeneous graph contrastive learning, which can mine supervision signals from the data, has attracted widespread attention. However, most existing methods employ random data augmentation strategies to construct contrastive views, which may destroy the semantic information in heterogeneous graphs. Moreover, they often select positive and negative samples based solely on node-level proximity and overlook hard samples that are difficult to distinguish from anchors. To solve the above problems, we propose a Community-Aware Heterogeneous Graph Contrastive Learning model called CAHGCL. In particular, we design an adaptive data augmentation strategy to construct views, including feature augmentation and topology augmentation. To improve the quality of samples, we propose a dynamic sample weighting strategy based on node similarity and community information, capable of identifying both hard positive samples and hard negative samples. Finally, we introduce community-level contrast to improve community cohesion. Extensive experiments and analyses demonstrate that CAHGCL consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on three datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Community evolution tracking is widely used in complex network analysis, which analyzes and identifies how communities evolve over time based on dynamic community detection. However, the current incremental dynamic community detection method has the phenomenon of ’concept drift’, which leads to inaccurate tracking of community evolution. Although some studies on dynamic community detection have proposed to perform global community detection on the network by timing or when the error information accumulates to a certain extent, this method will lead to a sudden change in community division, which will interrupt the evolution sequence of some communities and bring great difficulties to the continuous tracking of community evolution. In addition, the current community evolution tracking methods match the communities of two adjacent snapshots, and it is difficult to capture the fine-grained evolution process within the community. This paper proposes a community evolution tracking algorithm based on high-order neighbor consideration and node change identification. Firstly, based on an incremental update strategy that considers high-order neighbors, we adaptively expand the scope of incremental updates to reduce the accumulation of error information. Secondly, through the node change identification strategy to mine fine-grained community evolution events. Graphs widely exist in real-world, and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have exhibited exceptional efficacy in graph learning in diverse fields. With the strengthening of data privacy protection worldwide in recent years, Federated graph neural networks (FedGNNs) have gained increasing attention in academia and industry owing to their ability to train the model in a collaborative manner while complying with the privacy protection regulations. However, in federated learning, the non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) problem of local data possessed by multiple participants can significantly undermine model accuracy. We propose a new Decentralized Federated Graph Normalized AutoEncoder (D-FGNAE). First, the model is designed as a decentralized federated learning framework with dynamically assigned tripartite roles. This design eliminates the fixed server role found in traditional federated learning, enhances system fault tolerance, avoids single points of failure, and protects model privacy. Second, the splitting and correcting of calculation by layer in the model, along with the special design of the normalization layer, effectively tackle the non-IID problem in both the structural and attribute aspects. Experimental results on real-world networks demonstrate the effectiveness of D-FGNAE, which can achieve nearly the same accuracy as the centralized model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Non-Volatile Main Memories (NVMMs) have recently emerged as a promising technology for future memory systems. Generally, NVMMs have many desirable properties such as high density, byte-addressability, non-volatility, low cost, and energy efficiency, at the expense of high write latency, high write power consumption, and limited write endurance. NVMMs have become a competitive alternative of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), and will fundamentally change the landscape of memory systems. They bring many research opportunities as well as challenges on system architectural designs, memory management in operating systems (OSes), and programming models for hybrid memory systems. In this article, we revisit the landscape of emerging NVMM technologies, and then survey the state-of-the-art studies of NVMM technologies. We classify those studies with a taxonomy according to different dimensions such as memory architectures, data persistence, performance improvement, energy saving, and wear leveling. Second, to demonstrate the best practices in building NVMM systems, we introduce our recent work of hybrid memory system designs from the dimensions of architectures, systems, and applications. At last, we present our vision of future research directions of NVMMs and shed some light on design challenges and opportunities.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a globally recognised, highly prevalent disease with a high risk of death and a low cure rate. The World Health Organization estimates that deaths from heart disease will reach 23 million by 2030. Therefore, it is imperative to find a fast and effective method for early diagnosis in order to provide patients with early intervention and improve the effectiveness of treatment. With the in-depth development of machine learning, the function of data analysis and prediction will efficiently help doctors to make a preliminary cluster for a large number of people and detect those who have a dangerous rate of developing coronary heart disease. In this paper, three data pre-processing methods, Smote, Borderline Smote and K-means Smote, were used to construct a risk prediction model for coronary heart disease (CHD) based on an unbalanced data set, combined with four algorithms, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, KNN and SVM. After analysing the data characteristics and adjusting the parameters, different combinations of these methods were compared and a better classification method was selected to predict CHD, achieving higher accuracy, precision, AUC and f1 score. Overall, through experiments, the random oversampling and SMOTE methods can effectively solve the data imbalance problem in most *** final training accuracy could be up to 99%, and the testing accuracy could reach 93%. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
