Deep coastal sea elements forecasting using UNet-based models

Due to the recent development of deep learning techniques applied to satellite imagery, weather forecasting that uses remote sensing data has also been the subject of major progress. The present paper investigates multiple hours ahead coastal sea elements forecasting in the Netherlands using UNet based architectures. The hourly satellite image data from the Copernicus observation program spanned over a period of two years has been used to train the models and make the forecasting, including seasonal forecasting. Here, we propose 3D dimension Reducer UNet (3DDR-UNet), a variation of the UNet architecture, and further extend this novel model using residual connections, parallel convolutions and asymmetric convolutions which result in introducing three additional architectures, i.e. Res-3DDR-UNet, InceptionRes-3DDR-UNet and AsymmInceptionRes-3DDR-UNet respectively. In particular, we show that the architecture equipped with parallel and asymmetric convolutions as well as skip connections outperforms the other three discussed models. © 2022 The Author(s)

Pancreatic cancer poses a significant challenge in early detection and treatment due to its malignant nature within the digestive tract. Recent studies, such as those conducted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, predict that pancreatic cancer will rank as the world's second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in 2020. Various methods have been explored in the literature to segment pancreatic tumors and detect lesions from CT images, crucial for assessing severity. One such method is the Min-Max segmentation algorithm, which effectively removes the jaundiced sclera region from affected eyes by analysing color gradients, offering more feasible and discriminative solutions. Additionally, the utilization of Whale Optimized feature-based selection aids in extracting optimal features for optimization purposes. Through an analysis of different classification algorithms and the implementation of a suggested technique for achieving optimum solutions and maximum accuracy, the proposed work is structured into two phases. Phase I involves pre-processing and artifact removal, followed by segmentation, while Phase II focuses on feature extraction, feature selection, and classification. The initial step of pre-processing the image facilitates pixel location using intensity measures, crucial for accurate tumor segmentation and minimizing false detection. Ultimately, the proposed approach aims to design and develop an optimal feature selection strategy for classifying pancreatic cancer tumors in PET/CT images, resulting in increased classification efficiency 92% and improved cancer tumor detection rates with compare other existing approaches.

Recently, digital economy in social science has become increasingly significant. A well-constructed evaluation structure could generally and promptly describe and reveal its overall social digitalization development. Building on existent researches, this paper improves the evaluation system, which comprises four first-level indicators and thirty-one second-level indicators. Notably, this paper innovatively incorporates higher education into digital innovation of the evaluation. The Entropy method is utilized to assign weights to various indicators in an objective way, with employing the TOPSIS approach to prioritize the development of digital economy in places based on the closeness to the ideal solution. By analysing related data related from 31 provinces in China between 2017 to 2021, this paper greatly finds: Firstly, the development of digital economy vary significantly across provinces, with most provinces at a relatively poor level, indicating considerable potential for overall growth;Secondly, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shandong consistently ranked in the top four from 2017 to 2021, reflecting their specific development attributes and their emphasis on digital economy;Thirdly, significant disparities exist both between regions and among provinces. Consequently, this paper suggests establishing a comprehensive national digital economy development plan, formulating region-specific digital economy policies tailored to local conditions, and encouraging leading provinces to actively share experiences with other provinces. © 2024 The Authors.

The difficulty with dynamic and heterogeneous natured edge computing environments is resource provisioning. Reinforcement Learning (RL) can be promising to solve the problems of resource allocation under conditions of dynamics and complexity. This research work presents a novel DDPG-based (Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient) approach for optimizing the dynamics of resource allocation in edge computing environments by exploiting the CRAWDAD KAIST–WIBRO dataset for the proposed model. This approach implements a neural network that learns the optimal policies of allocations with dynamism towards new changes in workloads and resource availabilities. In order to test the performance of this method, conducted several simulations over real-world workload and resource data, mapping the parameters like rewards and variation in episodes. The simulation results indicate that proposed approach performs superior compared to traditional heuristic-based approaches as well as other RL algorithms for resource usage, response time, and energy efficiency. This proposed approach permits optimized resource utilization along with quality of service, of paramount importance in executing complex and demanding applications at the edge computing environment.

The escalating costs of healthcare globally necessitate the development of accurate prediction models to address the financial strain on individuals, families, businesses, and governments. This research employs linear regression models to forecast healthcare expenditures, analyzing the intricate relationship between various factors and costs. A comprehensive literature survey explores topics such as the impact of environmental pollution on healthcare spending, prediction of surgical expenses, budget impact analysis for cancer treatment, and the integration of big data in healthcare infrastructure investments. The methodology involves gathering a diverse dataset encompassing patient demographics, medical history, treatment methods, and associated expenditures. Exploratory data analysis employs Pearson's correlation coefficient to identify trends and correlations between variables. Two linear regression models are proposed and compared, with the second model excluding non-significant variables for enhanced accuracy and interpretability. Results indicate that the second model, with refined feature selection, outperforms the first in terms of mean squared error and R-squared values. A comparative analysis of different studies underscores the diverse findings in healthcare economics, ranging from the impact of CO2 emissions on health to predicting surgery costs and budgetary savings in cancer treatment. The research contributes to the growing body of knowledge in healthcare economics, providing decision-makers with a valuable tool for precise expenditure estimation. The emphasis on linear regression models aids stakeholders in understanding factors influencing healthcare costs, guiding resource allocation, policy creation, and financial planning for more sustainable and effective healthcare systems.

In the field of robust audio watermarking,how to seek a good trade-off between robustness and imperceptibility is challenging. The existing studies use the same embedding parameter for each part of the audio signal, which ignores that different parts may have different requirements for embedding parameters. In this work, the constraints on imperceptibility are first ***, we present a segment multi-objective optimization model of the scaling parameter under the constrained Signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) in Spread spectrum(SS)audio watermarking. Additionally, we adopt the Nondominated sorting genetic algorithm Ⅱ(NSGA-Ⅱ) to solve the proposed model. Finally, we compare our algorithm(called SS-SNR-NSGA-Ⅱ) with the existing methods. The experimental results show that the proposed SS-SNRNSGA-Ⅱ not only provides flexible choices for different application demands but also achieves more and better trade-offs between imperceptibility and robustness.

In multi-label learning, each instance is associated with a set of labels simultaneously. Most existing studies assume that the set of labels for each instance is complete. However, it is generally difficult to obtain all the relevant labels of each instance, and only a partial or even empty set of relevant labels is available, which is called semi-supervised multi-label learning with missing labels. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel framework that considers label correlations and instance correlations to recover the missing labels and utilizes a large amount of unlabeled data simultaneously to improve the classification performance. Specifically, a new supplementary label matrix is firstly obtained by learning the label correlation. Secondly, considering each class label may be decided by some specific characteristics of its own, a label-specific data representation is hence learned for each class label. Thirdly, instance correlations are utilized not only to recover the missing labels, but also to propagate the supervision information from labeled instances to unlabeled ones. In addition, a united objective function is designed to facilitate the above processing and an accelerated proximal gradient method is adopted to solve the optimization problem. Finally, extensive experimental results conducted on several benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to competing ones.

Drawing Order Diagrams Through Two-Dimension Extension

Ordinal real-world data such as concept hierarchies, ontologies, genealogies, or task dependencies in scheduling often has the property to not only contain pairwise comparable, but also incomparable elements. Order diagrams provide an important tool for understanding and thus discovering knowledge in such data. Easily readable drawings of such order diagrams are hard to come by, even for small ordered sets. Many attempts were made to transfer classical graph drawing approaches to order diagrams. Although these methods produce satisfying results for some ordered sets, they unfortunately perform poorly in general. In this work, we present the novel algorithm DimDraw to decompose an ordered set (e.g., a concept hierarchy) in linear orders and to produce a corresponding order diagram. This algorithm is based on a relation between the dimension of an ordered set and the bipartiteness of its transitive incompatibility graph. To evaluate the quality of the algorithm, a user study was conducted where generated drawings were compared with ones from state-of-the-art drawing algorithms. © 2023 Brown University. Scheduling multi-tenant cloud workflow tasks with resource reliability

Resource reliability is crucial in scheduling workflow instances for different tenants. Both cloud resource reliability and precedence constraints in workflows bring about great challenges for these kinds of scheduling problems. In this paper, we construct a hybrid resource reliability model which is adaptively evaluated in every time window. The objective is to optimize the QoS(quality of service) for tenants which is measured by the introduced AISE(all instance success entropy) index. A scheduling algorithmic framework is proposed for the studied workflows which consider cloud resource reliability. Deadline and budget division(BD) methods are presented to divide deadlines and budgets of instances into those of tasks. A tenant sequence method is developed to determine the order of tenants. A task allocation strategy is investigated to schedule tasks that are ready to appropriate available resources. Parameters and algorithm component candidates are statistically calibrated over a comprehensive set of random instances using the analysis of variance technique. The performance of the proposed algorithm is also evaluated in practical instances.

Throughput-oriented associated transaction assignment in sharding blockchains for IoT social data storage

Blockchain is a viable solution to provide data integrity for the enormous volume of 5G IoT social data, while we need to break through the throughput bottleneck of blockchain. Sharding is a promising technology to solve the problem of low throughput in blockchains. However, cross-shard communication hinders the effective improvement of blockchain throughput. Therefore, it is critical to reasonably allocate transactions to different shards to improve blockchain throughput. Existing research on blockchain sharding mainly focuses on shards formation, configuration, and consensus, while ignoring the negative impact of cross-shard communication on blockchain throughput. Aiming to maximize the throughput of transaction processing, we study how to allocate blockchain transactions to shards in this paper. We propose an Associated Transaction assignment algorithm based on Closest Fit (ATCF). ATCF classifies associated transactions into transaction groups which are then assigned to different shards in the non-ascending order of transaction group sizes periodically. Within each epoch, ATCF tries to select a shard that can handle all the transactions for each transaction group. If there are multiple such shards, ATCF selects the shard with the remaining processing capacity closest to the number of transactions in the transaction group. When no such shard exists, ATCF chooses the shard with the largest remaining processing capacity for the transaction group. The transaction groups that cannot be completely processed within the current epoch will be allocated in the subsequent epochs. We prove that ATCF is a 2-approximation algorithm for the associated transaction assignment problem. Simulation results show that ATCF can effectively improve the blockchain throughput and reduce the number of cross-shard transactions.
