Join processing in wireless sensor networks is a challenging problem. Current solutions are not involved in the join operation among tuples of the latest sampling periods. In this article, we proposed a continuous Single attribute Join Queries within latest sampling Periods (SJQP) for wireless sensor networks. The main idea of our filter-based framework is to discard non-matching tuples, and our scheme can guarantee the result is correct independent of the filters. Experiments based on real-world sensor data show that our method performs close to a theoretical optimum and consistently outperforms the centralized join algorithm.

A key challenge facing curators and providers of digital cultural heritage across Europe and Worldwide is to instigate, increase and enhance engagement with cultural archives. To achieve this, a fundamental change in the way cultural resources are experienced and contributed to by communities is required. Furthermore, it is of central importance to create systems which can support the full spectrum of the user community - from professional researchers engaged in answering complex queries, to supporting novice students or members of the public in finding their way through the vast collection of resources. This paper presents CULTURA, a personalisation environment for navigating digitised cultural heritage archives. An initial description of a case study surrounding the 1641 Depositions Archive is followed by an analysis of the results of trials with students in the humanities.

The concept of wisdom has been a term of reflection since the first philosophical definition attempts by Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC). Different religions and sciences offered possible properties and facets of wisdom - without ever coming to an agreement on how to define the term. As especially cognitive sciences provided new insights during the last decades the time might have come for a revised, more conclusive definition or at least modelization of wisdom, using and integrating the insights of different disciplines out of humanities, cognitive and natural science to create a common base for further interdisciplinary research. Furthermore, we discuss possible measures that are able to cover a least fundamental properties of wisdom including its vague aspects. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

The problem of scalable knowledge extraction from the Web has attracted much attention in the past decade. However, it is under explored how to extract the structured knowledge from semi-structured Websites in a fully automatic and scalable way. In this work, we define the table-formatted structured data with clear schema as knowledge Tables and propose a scalable learning system, which is named as Kable to extract knowledge from semi-structured Websites automatically in a never ending and scalable way. Kable consists of two major components, which are auto wrapper induction and schema matching respectively. In contrast to the state of the art auto wrappers for semi-structured Web sites, our adopted approach can run around 1'000 times faster, which makes the Web scale knowledge extraction possible. On the other hand, we propose a novel schema matching solution which can work effectively on the auto-extracted structured data. With 3 months' continuous run using ten Web servers, we successfully extracted 427,105,009 knowledge facts. The manual labeling over sampled knowledge extracted show the up to 87% precision for supporting various Web applications.

Cloud Computing Service (CCS) paradigm is changing IT strategy of organizations in the digital world. CCS that requires few upfront investments and uses lease-based pricing is especially relevant to the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which have limited resources and may not know their true valuation for the IT prior to adoption. Thus, this research aims to investigate the influential factors of SMEs' strategic choice of CCS as online service. Relying upon Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) paradigm, we identify both generic and context-specific factors from the three aspects and explain how the identified factors affect SMEs' CCS strategic choices. We hope this research can make contributions to innovation diffusion theory and IT strategy literature. We also hope the research with progress going on can generate insights for the CCS vendors who care about the sector of SME as well as the government administrators to make appropriate policies or supports for SMEs.

After having been a term of reflection in philosophy as well as psychology for ages, the fascination with human wisdom finally reaches the realms of computer science. In comparison to the first philosophical definition attempts, that date back to Aristotle (384BC-322BC), the efforts in information science during the late 1980s seem quite recent. Nevertheless have there been astonishing new insights provided by cognitive science since those first formal modelizations were designed - findings that strongly suggest a reconsideration of our current formalization of wisdom in the computer science domain. We suggest to establish a new, integrated view on the concept of wisdom, using the insights of cognitive sciences. Furthermore, we discuss possible measures that are able to cover at least fundamental properties of wisdom including its vague aspects.

One of the key motivating factors for information providers to use personalisation is to maximise the benefit to the user in accessing their content. However, traditionally such systems have focussed on mainly corporate or professionally authored content and have not been able to leverage the benefits of other material already on the web, written about that subject by other authors. Such information includes open-web information as well as usergenerated content such as forums, blogs, tags, etc. By providing personalised compositions and presentations across these heterogeneous information sources, a potentially richer user experience can be created, leveraging the mutual benefits of professionally authored content as well as open-web information and active user communities. This paper presents novel techniques and architectures that extend the personalisation reserved for corporate or professionally developed content with that of user generated content and pages in the wild. Complementary affordances of Personalised Information Retrieval and Adaptive Hypermedia are leveraged in order to provide Adaptive Retrieval and Composition of Heterogeneous INformation sources for personalised hypertext Generation (ARCHING). The approach enables adaptive selection and navigation according to multiple adaptation dimensions and across a variety of heterogeneous data sources. The architectures have been applied in a real-life personalised customer care scenario and a user study evaluation involving authentic information needs has been conducted. The evidence clearly shows that the system successfully blends a user's search experience with adaptive selection and navigation techniques and that the user experience is improved in terms of both task assistance and user satisfaction. © 2011 ACM.

Translation techniques are often employed by cross-lingual ontology mapping (CLOM) approaches to turn a cross-lingual mapping problem into a monolingual mapping problem which can then be solved by state of the art monolingual ontology matching tools. However in the process of doing so, noisy translations can compromise the quality of the matches generated by the subsequent monolingual matching techniques. In this paper, a novel approach to improve the quality of cross-lingual ontology mapping is presented and evaluated. The proposed approach adopts the pseudo feedback technique that is similar to the well understood relevance feedback mechanism used in the field of information retrieval. It is shown through the evaluation that pseudo feedback can improve the matching quality in a CLOM scenario. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
