A key predictor of first trimester miscarriage is the discrepancy between observed and expected fetal development. The later requires a certain date of last menstruation period (LMP). However, a significant proportion of women are unsure of their LMP. This lack of gestational age (GA) absolute reference makes those patients ineligible for first trimester predictive model where GA adjustment is required. In this study, we assessed the use of relative references to build GA independent *** studied 4 different predictors ‐ MSD, CRL, progesterone and bhCG ‐ based on data from 105 women with first trimester miscarriage and 1022 with viable pregnancies, prospectively recruited from a single centre from March 2014‐ May 2019. Using the subset of viable pregnancies with certain date of LMP, we first modelled the relationship to GA by LMP, and assessed the GA correlation. Estimated GA were then derived for all pregnancies. Doing so, the transformed predictor now demonstrates a constant growth rate in viable pregnancies, making its rate GA‐independent. We computed the ROC AUC with 95% CI as predictive performance of those GA independent *** was time‐independent in the viable cohort and could be used without reference to GA with decent performance (AUC 0.799; 95% CI 0.730‐0.869). MSD was linear in terms of GA, no specific transformation were needed to achieve constant rate (AUC 0.696; 95% CI 0.668‐0.718.) For early pregnancies, using empirical CRL growth rate was acceptable without correction for the quadratic behaviour (AUC 0.852; 95% CI 0.813‐0.891). Due to the large variability in bhCG concentration, obtaining accurate GA was more challenging, preventing the use of a growth rate method. research on alternative sources to replace fossil fuels has been started decades ago and still an uninterrupted process. Partial replacement rather than complete is justified with real-time applications. In this research, engine outcomes based on palm oil biodiesel blends are elaborated. The transesterification processed biodiesel from raw palm oil is used to run the engine with a blend proportion of P10D90 and P20D80. From the results obtained, the performance of an engine was degraded with an increase in biodiesel proportion and consumes higher fuel. At lower load diesel and P10D90 have almost equal thermal efficiency whereas at peak load it is found that 39.1% and 37.6% respectively. Apart from CO emissions, there is an increment in CO2, HC, and NOX with the load. NOx emissions are in the margin with diesel for P10D90 at part load. P10D90 shown slightly lower in-cylinder pressure at full load compared to ***, it is seen that P20D80 has given depreciated performance readings, lowered cylinder pressure 55.8 bar, and higher emissions at rated torque. From the experiment, it is noticed that above 10% of the biodiesel blend engine required suitable modifications and accessories to overcome demerits associated with blend characteristics.

The first Better evidence and RecommendatIons for the next Generation HealTh—BRIGHT symposium was held in Chongqing, China between June 21 and 23, 2024. The symposium did not only showcase the recent progress made by multidisciplinary teams in generating and translating evidence for children's healthcare, guideline development and evaluation, and the utilization of AI applications in pediatrics but also fostered transnational and transregional cooperation to promote the advancement of high-quality evidence and guidelines in this field. The symposium contributed significantly to the future development and transformation of research endeavors in pediatrics.

Epigenetic research has brought several important technological achievements, including identifying epigenetic clocks and signatures, and developing epigenetic editing. The potential military applications of such technologies we discuss are stratifying soldiers’ health, exposure to trauma using epigenetic testing, information about biological clocks, confirming child soldiers’ minor status using epigenetic clocks, and inducing epigenetic modifications in soldiers. These uses could become a reality. This article presents a comprehensive literature review, and analysis by interdisciplinary experts of the scientific, legal, ethical, and societal issues surrounding epigenetics and the military. Notwithstanding the potential benefit from these applications, our findings indicate that the current lack of scientific validation for epigenetic technologies suggests a careful scientific review and the establishment of a robust governance framework before consideration for use in the military. In this article, we highlight general concerns about the application of epigenetic technologies in the military context, especially discrimination and data privacy issues if soldiers are used as research subjects. We also highlight the potential of epigenetic clocks to support child soldiers’ rights and ethical questions about using epigenetic engineering for soldiers’ enhancement and conclude with considerations for an ethical framework for epigenetic applications in the military, defense, and security contexts. © The Author(s) 2023. The natural monopoly of China’s upstream industry and the vertical structure of industrial chain’s upstream and downstream competition is an important feature of China’s industrial economic structure, and the impact of the change of trade pattern on the energy industry, which located at the upstream of the China’s value chain, has become an important issue in the industrial economy. Since China has entered into the WTO in 2001, we use it for event analysis based on 1987-2007 China input-output data. The study calculates the upstreamness of production of the value chain in various industrial sectors of China’s energy industry every five years, and make correlation analysis of upstreamness of production and other economic indicators to check the characteristics of periodic inspection of China’s industrial structure with the development of industrial economy and the change of trade pattern.

Co-production practices are increasingly being adopted in research conducted for the purpose of societal impact. However, the ways in which co-production is conducted can perpetuate long-standing inequity and inequality. This study investigates which principles of co-production design are perceived to advance more equitable processes and outcomes based on the experiences of participants in three projects funded by U.S. federal programs that support decision-relevant climate science, along with others engaged in co-production efforts. We found three distinct perspectives: (a) Ways of Knowing and Power; (b) Participants and Interactions; and (c) Science as Capacity Building. Each viewpoint differentially weights the salience of statements associated with five dimensions of co-production practices: (a) outcomes; (b) power; (c) place-based, community rights and respect; (d) audiences and participation; and (e) interactions. In the final stage of the study, we hosted a workshop of participants representing various roles in co-production efforts to vet and discuss each perspective. We found that the perspectives remained distinct after each of the groups selected core statements that reflect their views. The degree of variation across the three perspectives suggests that co-production processes would benefit from an initial discussion of, and decisions about, rules of engagement to ensure that participants view the process as equitable.
