This study presents a datascience Chat bot that uses Natural Language Processing techniques, namely the Natural Language Toolkit. As an intelligent conversational agent, the chat bot helps users navigate and derive insights from large, complex databases. By utilizing sophisticated natural language processing techniques, the chatbot can comprehend and analyze user inquiries, facilitating easy interaction between people and data. To understand the semantics of user inputs and provide accurate and context-aware responses, the system makes use of tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, and syntactic analysis. The chatbot also incorporates machine learning algorithms to improve its capacity to offer data-driven insights and recommendations. Using Natural Language Toolkit allows for continual development through ongoing model training in addition to robust language analysis. By making data analysis and access more approachable and engaging for users with different degrees of datascience experience, our chatbot for datascience seeks to democratize these processes.

In this Innovative-Practice Full Paper, we present the design and implementation of a novel strategy for the assessment of the individual contributions of students working in teams for an interdisciplinary project-based learning (PBL) course. Team-based and project-based learning have been the cornerstones of experiential learning in recent years. In such courses, the assessment of students is often performed solely at a team level, resulting in student discontent, concerns about fairness, and social loafing. The application of a single method for evaluating individual contributions has its shortcomings, prompting us to incorporate a combination of evidence-based approaches. Thus, to mitigate these problems, we developed an assessment strategy that involves three components - self and peer evaluation (SPA), instructor's evaluation of individual contribution, and class participation. Anonymized SPA was carried out at three different checkpoints over the semester for both formative and summative assessment. The individual contribution of the students is also evaluated by the instructor and/or other mentors based on their interactions with all the students in the team over the entire semester. Class participation is another component of individual contribution incorporated in our scheme, where instructors evaluate the participation of individual students in classroom activities, presentations, and meetings. We collected feedback about the perception of students towards our assessment policies for individual contribution. We observed overall satisfaction and positive attitudes toward our scheme. We noted positive student perceptions of fairness in grading through our scheme and reduced chances of social loafing. Further, in the feedback, the students noted the effectiveness of using SPA as an evaluation tool, the usefulness of instructor's evaluation, and the role of class participation in creating a more engaging classroom and a more enriching experience. This paper presents a review of recent technical books on AI-Assisted programming and utilizes the findings to guide curriculum changes in higher education. Our analysis underscores the necessity for novel teaching strategies, emphasizing skills like problem decomposition, top-down design, and advanced debugging. Furthermore, it emphasizes the crucial expansion of curricula to encompass courses on developing applications based on LLMs, utilizing libraries such as LangChain and incorporating Retrieval Augmented Generation functionality. We have conducted research on the construction of educational curricula and proposed a stage-wised refinement curriculum model for datascience education at liberal arts universities. The model consists of four stages: datascience Invitation, datascience Basics, datascience Practice, and datascience Development. Based on this model, we have developed educational subjects related to the three knowledge areas, implemented them in our university’s datascience education program, and are conducting educational practice. In this paper, we focus on the subject of "datascience" in Area II that we oversaw in the second half of 2022, and report on syllabus design, content creation, implementation status, and evaluation of its on-demand implementation. datascience (DS) aims to extract knowledge from large amounts of data. Organizations can use the retrieved insights to achieve various performance improvements. However, DS projects often fail to fulfill their objectives due to the explorative nature of this discipline and technical as well as managerial challenges. Consequently, new approaches to support DS project execution are sought after. A viable contribution in this regard is improving knowledge retention in DS to predict socio-technical obstacles of an undertaking and derive best practices. Therefore, in this work, a template for describing the central characteristics of DS projects is proposed using a Design science Research approach. The artifact is structured based on the common DS project stages and features 32 fields, enabling comparability and transparency in DS. The applicability of the template is demonstrated based on three DS use cases from the literature. While further steps for evaluation are pending, the template can serve as a foundation for developing a categorization model for DS projects in the future.
