Retrieval-augmented code generation utilizes Large Language Models as the generator and significantly expands their code generation capabilities by providing relevant code, documentation, and more via the retriever. The current approach suffers from two primary limitations: 1) information redundancy. The indiscriminate inclusion of redundant information can result in resource wastage and may misguide generators, affecting their effectiveness and efficiency. 2) preference gap. Due to different optimization objectives, the retriever strives to procure code with higher ground truth similarity, yet this effort does not substantially benefit the generator. The retriever and the generator may prefer different golden code, and this gap in preference results in a suboptimal design. Additionally, differences in parameterization knowledge acquired during pre-training result in varying preferences among different generators. To address these limitations, in this paper, we propose RRG (Retrieve, Refactor, Generate), a novel framework for effective and efficient code generation. This framework introduces a code refactorer module between the retriever and the generator to bridge them. The refactoring process transforms the raw retrieved code into a more concise, efficient, and model-friendly version. It eliminates redundant information and noise, reducing the input length. Consequently, the generator receives higher-quality context, enabling it to produce more accurate results with lower inference costs. We conducted comprehensive experiments on multiple datasets. In the experiments, we confirmed the existence of a preference gap between the retriever and the generator, and RRG effectively bridges this gap. Specifically, RRG achieved significant performance improvements, with increases of up to 28% on EM, 13% on BLEU, and 6.8% on CodeBLEU.

Makerspaces have emerged as potential facilitators of the transition from the linear economic model to a circular economy (CE). This transition necessitates collaboration among diverse stakeholders to create sustainable, yet resilient systems. However, fostering effective collaboration faces numerous barriers, including misaligned interests, competition dynamics, limited knowledge experience, power asymmetry, and lack of trust. Our paper addresses these challenges and proposes an alternative tool for fostering collaboration: an online board game called Circular Synergy City. Unlike existing games, Circular Synergy City focuses on collaboration, allowing players to interact, negotiate, and plan with each other to explore potential synergies. We tested this game with 160 players in two play sessions. Based on the feedback gathered during these sessions, we present recommendations for developing collaboration-focused content, and board games.

The Financial Anatomy of Climate Solutions: A Large Language Model Approach to Company Classification and Analysis

Leveraging advancements in large language models (LLM), we study the financial characteristics of firms offering climate solutions-products and services aimed at fostering a transition to a low-carbon economy. We use a new measure that applies LLM to 10-K Item 1 Business Description to quantify a firm's focus on climate solutions. To validate this measure, we demonstrate a strong correlation to measures of green patents, green revenues, and climate opportunities discussed during earnings calls. We find that firms with higher climate solutions have superior revenue growth, but also lower profitability margin, attributable to higher cost of goods sold, labor costs, and investments in innovation. Topic analysis shows that the revenue growth is concentrated in climate solutions with higher abatement potential, whereas expenses are higher in climate solutions with higher costs per abatement. We further distinguish between companies primarily dedicated to climate solutions (Pure) and those progressively aligning their product portfolios (Transition), and find that the higher revenue growth is concentrated in Transition firms, whereas lower profitability margin is concentrated in Pure firms. This study underscores the utility of LLMs in analyzing regulated financial documents to assess the economic impact of climate solutions, highlighting their influence on growth, profitability, investments, and operating costs. © 2024, The Authors. Multiview deep learning based on tensor decomposition and its application in fault detection of overhead contact systems

This article mainly focuses on the most common types of high-speed railways malfunctions in overhead contact systems, namely, unstressed droppers, foreign-body invasions, and pole number-plate malfunctions, to establish a deep-network detection model. By fusing the feature maps of the shallow and deep layers in the pretraining network, global and local features of the malfunction area are combined to enhance the network's ability of identifying small objects. Further, in order to share the fully connected layers of the pretraining network and reduce the complexity of the model, Tucker tensor decomposition is used to extract features from the fused-feature map. The operation greatly reduces training time. Through the detection of images collected on the Lanxin railway line, experiments result show that the proposed multiview Faster R-CNN based on tensor decomposition had lower miss probability and higher detection accuracy for the three types faults. Compared with object-detection methods YOLOv3, SSD, and the original Faster R-CNN, the average miss probability of the improved Faster R-CNN model in this paper is decreased by 37.83%, 51.27%, and 43.79%, respectively, and average detection accuracy is increased by 3.6%, 9.75%, and 5.9%, respectively.

An all-dielectric metamaterial sensing scheme is proposed and applied in order to measure the thermal conductivity of jade carving materials with smooth spectral lines in a band. In the range of 6-40 THz, the transmission spectrum lines of jade carving materials are smooth and stable. The thermal conductivity of jade carving material decreases with the increase in thickness, while the thermal resistance increases gradually. The measurement results of four kinds of jade carving materials show that the composition of materials is an important factor affecting the heat conduction property. These measurement results provide a basis for expanding the application of metamaterial sensors.

Analytical solutions of free vibration for rectangular thin plate and right-angle triangle plate on the Winkler elastic foundation based on the symplectic superposition method

Based on the symplectic superposition method, the free vibration models of rectangular and right-angle triangle plates on the Winkler elastic foundation are established in the present paper, and the modes and frequencies are studied. In addition, the theoretical calculation model and finite element analysis model of rectangular thin plate and right-angle triangle plate on elastic foundation are established by using Mathematica software and ABAQUS software. It proves that the symplectic superposition method converges very fast and has a good consistency with the finite element simulation results. Analytical results show that foundation stiffness, aspect ratio, and boundary condition have great influences on vibration frequency and mode shape for structures. This paper solved the free vibration problem of rectangular plate and right-angle triangle plate on elastic foundation by using symplectic superposition method. Compared with the inverse or semi-inverse method, this method avoids the process of assuming the form about the solution, hence the result of this method is completely rational.

GUI testing ensures the software quality and user experience in the ever-changing mobile application development. Using test scripts is one of the main GUI testing manner, but it might be obsolete when the GUI changes with the app's evolution. Current studies often rely on textual or visual similarity to perform test repair, but may be less effective when the interacted event sequence changes dramatically. In the interaction design, practitioners often provide multiple entry points to access the same function to gain higher openness and flexibility, which indicates that there may be multiple routes for reference in test repair. To evaluate the feasibility, we first conducted an exploratory study on 37 tests from 18 apps. The result showed that over 81% tests could be represented with alternative event paths, and using the extended paths could help enhance the test replay rate. Based on this finding, we propose a test-extension-based test repair algorithm named ExtRep. The method first uses test-extension to find alternative paths with similar test objectives based on feature coverage, and then finds repaired result with the help of sequence transduction probability proposed in NLP area. Experiments conducted on 40 popular applications demonstrate that ExtRep can achieve a success rate of 73.68% in repairing 97 tests, which significantly outperforms current approaches Water, Meter, and Guider. Moreover, the test-extension approach displays immense potential for optimizing test repairs. A tool that implements the ExtRep is available for practical use and future research.

Lubricating oil plays a vital role as the information carrier for equipment tribological performance. Therefore, oil condition monitoring (OCM) serves as a crucial technology for assessing and predicting state degradation, providing the first-line defense against functional failure. However, limited by random fluctuation and insufficient knowledge, the modeling of OCM has suffered from uncertainty problems, leading to poor applicability and insufficient generalizability. The existing reviews are less elaborated on the information uncertainty for description, characterization, and treatment, which expresses the essence of modeling constraints. To bridge this gap, the paper provides a comprehensive review of the oil state modeling in terms of uncertainty. The existing methods and metrics are reviewed from the perspective of the spatial oil state assessment (OCA) and temporal remaining useful life (RUL) prediction modeling. Further, the existing methods are analyzed to solve the uncertainty problem, and then the solutions in oil state modeling considering uncertainty are discussed. Finally, targeting the challenges of the monitoring technology, the future trends of OCM are presented.

STVANet: A spatio-temporal visual attention framework with large kernel attention mechanism for citywide traffic dynamics prediction

Enhancing the efficiency and safety of the Intelligent Transportation System requires effective modeling and prediction of citywide traffic dynamics. Most studies employ convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with a 3D convolutional structure or spatio-temporal models with self-attention mechanisms to capture the spatio-temporal information of traffic distribution. Although 3D CNNs excel at capturing local contextual information, they are computationally complex due to the large number of parameters and cannot capture long-range dependence. By contrast, although self-attention mechanisms originally designed to address challenges in natural language processing can capture long-range dependence, their application to 2D image structures requires breaking down the inherent 2D context into a 1D sequence, increasing the computational complexity and neglecting the adaptability between local contextual information and channels. Accordingly, we propose a spatio-temporal visual attention neural network (STVANet), a novel spatio-temporal visual attention 2D CNN, which integrates a unique visual attention module with a large kernel attention (LKA) mechanism, a squeeze-andexcitation (SE) mechanism and a feedforward component to capture long-range dependence and channel information in urban traffic data while preserving the 2D image structure. LKA-based spatio-temporal attention networks extract spatial and temporal features from weekly, daily, and recent hourly periods, and aggregate them with weighted consideration of external features to make predictions. Evaluation of real-world datasets demonstrates STVANet's superiority over baseline models, showcasing its potential in citywide traffic prediction.
