This paper compares three approaches to evolving ensembles in Genetic Programming (GP) for binary classification with unbalanced data. The first uses bagging with sampling, while the other two use Pareto-based multi-objective GP (MOGP) for the trade-off between the two (unequal) classes. In MOGP, two ways are compared to build the ensembles: using the evolved Pareto front alone, and using the whole evolved population of dominated and non-dominated individuals alike. Experiments on several benchmark (binary) unbalanced tasks find that smaller, more diverse ensembles chosen during ensemble selection perform best due to better generalisation, particularly when the combined knowledge of the whole evolved MOGP population forms the ensemble.

Personalisation on the web is mostly confined to websites of online content providers. The main drawback of this approach is the missing consideration of the users previous cross-site browsing experience resulting in an often fragmented browsing experience. This paper introduces a service driven architecture for user-centric personalisation in online cross-site tasks. The goal of the architecture is twofold: (1) to provide non-intrusive personalised recommendations to the user by not interfering in their browsing freedom and (2) to introduce cross-site personalisation in a non-invasive manner, thus not interfering with the design and functionality of the overall website. We introduce the proposed architecture and its applicability across separately hosted open-source Web-based Content Management Systems (WCMS). We also discuss encouraging results of an initial task-based experiment concentrating on the user's perception of non-intrusive personalisation within and across different websites.

More and more ubiquitous and mobile computer networks are becoming available, which leads to a massive growth in the amount of traffic and according log messages. Therefore, sophisticated approaches for network management and analysis are necessary for handling and managing networks efficiently. In this paper, we show how to use temporal data mining in a declarative framework for analysing log files for computer networks. From a sequence of network management protocol messages, we derive temporal association rules, which state frequent dependencies between the occuring events. We also present methods for extendable and modular parsing of text messages and their analysis in log files based on Xml. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The paper gives a design view on the first version of the ComVantage modelling method, aimed to support the design and analysis of supply chains that are collaborative, product-centric, process-driven and mapped on IT systems which rely on mobile apps and Linked data resources. The specification is the result of the conceptualization phase, in the context of a metamodelling specification framework comprising a modelling language, a modelling procedure and a set of mechanisms to be implemented in a modelling tool. The aim is to bridge the business-IT gap and to support modelling activities in the Future Internet Enterprise supply chains on multiple abstraction and detail levels, and also to facilitate their alignment to domain-specific frameworks such as SCOR or VRM.

Exchanging user information between multiple sources can potentially bring many benefits that enhance the user experience in software applications. Richer and more dynamic user models can be constructed allowing more tailoring of content and services to the specific needs of individual users. However, providing effective interoperability is a complex challenge as there can be significant heterogeneity between user models. Current generic approaches and tools offer insufficient support for the complex domain-specific nature of many user model interoperability tasks. This paper presents a comparative study of the FUSE domain-aware approach to user model interoperability. This novel approach differs from existing generic approaches by incorporating domain knowledge in new processes and tools to support complex user model interoperability tasks in multiple overlapping domains. The FUSE approach is described and compared to existing state of the art approaches using a consistent set of key issues in user model interoperability.

Quality measures are important to evaluate graph clustering algorithms by providing a means to assess the quality of a derived cluster structure. In this paper, we focus on overlapping graph structures, as many real-world networks have a structure of highly overlapping cohesive groups. We propose three methods to adapt existing crisp quality measures such that they can handle graph overlaps correctly, but also ensure that their properties for the evaluation of crisp graph clusterings are preserved when assessing a crisp cluster structure. We demonstrate our methods on such measures as Density, Newman's modularity and Conductance. We also propose an enhancement of an existing modularity measure for networks with overlapping structure. The newly proposed measures are analysed using experiments on artificial graphs that possess overlapping structure. For this evaluation, we apply a graph generation model that creates clustered graphs with overlaps that are similar to real-world networks i.e. their node degree and cluster size distribution follow a power law.
