Employing voice-based emotion recognition function in artificial intelligence (AI) product will improve the user experience. Most of researches that have been done only focus on the speech collected under controlled conditions. The scenarios evaluated in these research were well controlled. The conventional approach may fail when background noise or non-speech filler exist. In this paper, we propose an ensemble framework combining several aspects of features from audio. The framework incorporates gender and speaker information relying on multi-task learning. Therefore it is able to dig and capture emotional information as much as possible. This framework is evaluated on multimodal emotion challenge (MEC) 2017 corpus which is close to real world. The proposed framework outperformed the best baseline system by 29.5% (relative improvement).

Long short-term memory (LSTM) is normally used in recurrent neural network (RNN) as basic recurrent unit. However, conventional LSTM assumes that the state at current time step depends on previous time step. This assumption constraints the time dependency modeling capability. In this study, we propose a new variation of LSTM, advanced LSTM (A-LSTM), for better temporal context modeling. We employ A-LSTM in weighted pooling RNN for emotion recognition. The A-LSTM outperforms the conventional LSTM by 5.5% relatively. The A-LSTM based weighted pooling RNN can also complement the state-of-the-art emotion classification framework. This shows the advantage of A-LSTM.

The Wind sector has roughly 2200M euros of profit losses due to wind turbine failures and these failures do not contribute to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions of many states. The 25-35% of the generation costs are operation and maintenance services. To lower this ratio, the wind turbine industry is backing on the Machine Learning techniques over SCADA data. signal trending analysis supported on linear regression models presents the problem of how to carefully choose the right target variable, which reproduces as close as possible the behavior of a failure from a component. This document evaluates the impact of that choice by comparing as target different variables with discrete-non normal distribution, commonly selected by feature selection methods, versus variables that are continuous over time with a near normal distribution. Experimental results on real data show the use of continuous target variables selected by human expert on the field give better results than the use of targets obtained through feature selection algorithm. © 2017 IEEE.

Deep learning (DL) models have provided state-of-the-art performance in various medical imaging benchmarking challenges, including the Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) challenges. However, the task of focal pathology multi-compartment segmentation (e.g., tumor and lesion sub-regions) is particularly challenging, and potential errors hinder translating DL models into clinical workflows. Quantifying the reliability of DL model predictions in the form of uncertainties could enable clinical review of the most uncertain regions, thereby building trust and paving the way toward clinical translation. Several uncertainty estimation methods have recently been introduced for DL medical image segmentation tasks. Developing scores to evaluate and compare the performance of uncertainty measures will assist the end-user in making more informed decisions. In this study, we explore and evaluate a score developed during the BraTS 2019 and BraTS 2020 task on uncertainty quantification (Qu-BraTS) and designed to assess and rank uncertainty estimates for brain tumor multi-compartment segmentation. This score (1) rewards uncertainty estimates that produce high confidence in correct assertions and those that assign low confidence levels at incorrect assertions, and (2) penalizes uncertainty measures that lead to a higher percentage of under-confident correct assertions. We further benchmark the segmentation uncertainties generated by 14 independent participating teams of Qu-BraTS 2020, all of which also participated in the main BraTS segmentation task. Overall, our findings confirm the importance and complementary value that uncertainty estimates provide to segmentation algorithms, highlighting the need for uncertainty quantification in medical image analyses.
