This paper discusses on Malay language anaphor and antecedent candidate determination using the knowledge-poor techniques. The process to determine the candidate for anaphor and antecedent is important because the usage of pronouns in a text is not always considered as an anaphor. Sometimes pronoun referred to something outside the context or does not refer to any situation in the text. Such a situation is also exhibited in the use of pronouns in Malay language. Therefore, certain rules must be issued to identify the antecedent and anaphor candidate. Pronoun usage in Malay language does indicate the gender of the person, but to distinguish the status of the person such as imperial family, honorable people and common people. Thus, generic rules that have been used by other languages cannot simply be adapted for Malay language. The proposed solution concerns with the distance of each candidate and location of the Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) used to determine the anaphor candidate. As such, syntactic information, semantic information and distance of anaphor-antecedent are seen important to determine the antecedent candidate. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Least association rules are corresponded to the rarity or irregularity relationship among itemset in database. Mining these rules is very difficult and rarely focused since it always involves with infrequent and exceptional cases. In certain medical data, detecting these rules is very critical and most valuable. However, mathematical formulation and evaluation of the new proposed measurement are not really impressive. Therefore, in this paper we applied our novel measurement called Critical Relative Support (CRS) to mine the critical least association rules from medical dataset. We also employed our scalable algorithm called Significant Least Pattern Growth algorithm (SLP-Growth) to mine the respective association rules. Experiment with two benchmarked medical datasets, Breast Cancer and Cardiac Single Proton Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) Images proves that CRS can be used to detect to the pertinent rules and thus verify its scalability.

The concept of wisdom has been a term of reflection since the first philosophical definition attempts by Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC). Different religions and sciences offered possible properties and facets of wisdom - without ever coming to an agreement on how to define the term. As especially cognitive sciences provided new insights during the last decades the time might have come for a revised, more conclusive definition or at least modelization of wisdom, using and integrating the insights of different disciplines out of humanities, cognitive and natural science to create a common base for further interdisciplinary research. Furthermore, we discuss possible measures that are able to cover a least fundamental properties of wisdom including its vague aspects. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

As the number of non-English documents is increasing dramatically on the web nowadays, the study and design of information retrieval systems for these languages is very important. The Persian language is the official language of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan and is also spoken in some other countries in the Middle East, so there are significant amount of Persian documents available on the web. In this study, we will present and compare our English-Persian cross language text retrieval experiments on Hamshahri text collection. The primary aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of using a soil laboratory designed for testing of industrial equipment, for the biomechanical assessment of sports movements and footwear. This was achieved by the investigation of the influence of three different footwear types on in-shoe pressures to assess cushioning provided by the footwear for two surface conditions of differing density. Six subjects each performed running trials on the two surfaces in three pairs of footwear: molded boots, boots with studs and trainers. Inshoe pressure data were collected for six running steps for each shoe-surface condition, with peak heel force values used to quantify cushioning. Within each surface condition, similar peak heel force values were obtained for each of the footwear conditions. The comparison of surfaces revealed significantly higher heel impact forces when running on the higher density surface, suggesting a lower cushioning effect of this surface condition. This study demonstrates the potential of the described novel methodology to investigate footwear-surface combinations for controlled natural soil conditions. Combining these data with simultaneously measured pressures at different soil depths will allow the development of surface designs to best cope with the forces applied by the human.
