Policy makers are formulating offshore energy infrastructure plans, including wind turbines, electrolyzers, and HVDC transmission lines. An effective market design is crucial to guide cost-efficient investments and dispatch decisions. This paper jointly studies the impact of offshore market design choices on the investment in offshore electrolyzers and HVDC transmission capacity. We present a bilevel model that incorporates investments in offshore energy infrastructure, day-ahead market dispatch, and potential redispatch actions near real-time to ensure transmission constraints are respected. Our findings demonstrate that full nodal pricing, i.e., nodal pricing both onshore and offshore, outperforms the onshore zonal combined with offshore nodal pricing or offshore zonal layouts. While combining onshore zonal with offshore nodal pricing can be considered as a second-best option, it generally diminishes the profitability of offshore wind farms. However, if investment costs of offshore electrolyzers are relatively low, they can serve as catalysts to increase the revenues of the offshore wind farms. This study contributes to the understanding of market designs for highly interconnected offshore power systems, offering insights into the impact of congestion pricing methodologies on investment decisions. Besides, it is useful towards understanding the interaction of offshore loads like electrolyzers with financial support mechanisms for offshore wind farms. © 2024 IEEE.

In this note, we investigate the robustness of Nash equilibria (NE) in multi-player aggregative games with coupling constraints. There are many algorithms for computing an NE of an aggregative game given a known aggregator. When the coupling parameters are affected by uncertainty, robust NE need to be computed. We consider a scenario where players' weight in the aggregator is unknown, making the aggregator kind of "a black box". We pursue a suitable learning approach to estimate the unknown aggregator by proposing an inverse variational inequality-based relationship. We then utilize the counterpart to reconstruct the game and obtain first-order conditions for robust NE in the worst case. Furthermore, we characterize the generalization property of the learning methodology via an upper bound on the violation probability. Simulation experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed inverse learning approach. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Robust training methods against perturbations to the input data have received great attention in the machine learning literature. A standard approach in this direction is adversarial training which learns a model using adversarially-perturbed training samples. However, adversarial training performs suboptimally against perturbations structured across samples such as universal and group-sparse shifts that are commonly present in biological data such as gene expression levels of different tissues. In this work, we seek to close this optimality gap and introduce Group-Structured Adversarial Training (GSAT) which learns a model robust to perturbations structured across samples. We formulate GSAT as a non-convex concave minimax optimization problem which minimizes a group-structured optimal transport cost. Specifically, we focus on the applications of GSAT for group-sparse and rank-constrained perturbations modeled using group and nuclear norm penalties. In order to solve GSAT's non-smooth optimization problem in those cases, we propose a new minimax optimization algorithm called GDADMM by combining Gradient Descent Ascent (GDA) and Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). Self-learning control techniques mimicking the functionality of the limbic system in the mammalian brain have shown advantages in terms of superior learning ability and low computational cost. However, accompanying stability analyses and mathematical proofs rely on unrealistic assumptions which limit not only the performance, but also the implementation of such controllers in real-world scenarios. In this work the limbic system inspired control (LISIC) framework is revisited, introducing three contributions that facilitate the implementation of this type of controller in real-time. First, an extension enabling the implementation of LISIC to the domain of SISO affine systems is proposed. Second, a strategy for resetting the controller’s Neural Network (NN) weights is developed, in such a way that now it is possible to deal with piece-wise smooth references and impulsive perturbations. And third, for the case when a nominal model of the system is available, a technique is proposed to compute a set of optimal NN reset weight values by solving a convex constrained optimization problem. Numerical simulations addressing the stabilization of an unmanned aircraft system via the robust LISIC demonstrate the advantages obtained when adopting the extension to SISO systems and the two NN weight reset strategies.

An Integer Clustering Approach for Modeling Large-Scale EV Fleets with Guaranteed Performance

Large-scale integration of electric vehicles (EVs) leads to a tighter integration between transportation and electric energy systems. In this paper, we develop a novel integer-clustering approach to model a large number of EVs that manages vehicle charging and energy at the fleet level yet maintain individual trip dispatch. The model is then used to develop a spatially and temporally-resolved decision-making tool for optimally planning and/or operating EV fleets and charging infrastructure. The tool comprises a two-stage framework where a tractable disaggregation step follows the integer-clustering problem to recover an individually feasible solution. Mathematical relationships between the integer clustering, disaggregation, and individual formulations are analyzed. We establish theoretical lower and upper bounds on the true individual formulation which underpins a guaranteed performance of the proposed method. The optimality accuracy and computational efficiency of the integer-clustering formulation are also numerically validated on a real-world case study of Boston's public transit network under extensive test instances. As a revolutionary technology, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been deemed as an indispensable part of the 6th generation communications due to its inherent ability to regulate the wireless channels. However, passive RIS (PRIS) still suffers from some pressing issues, one of which is that the fading of the entire reflection link is proportional to the product of the distances from the base station to the PRIS and from the PRIS to the users, i.e., the productive attenuation. To tackle this problem, active RIS (ARIS) has been proposed to reconfigure the wireless propagation condition and alleviate the productive attenuation. In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security of the ARIS assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks with the attendance of external and internal eavesdroppers. To be specific, the closed-form expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) and secrecy system throughput are derived by invoking both imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect SIC. The secrecy diversity orders of legitimate users are obtained at high signal-to-noise ratios. Numerical results are presented to verify the accuracy of the theoretical expressions and indicate that: i) The SOP of ARIS assisted NOMA networks exceeds that of PRIS-NOMA, ARIS/PRIS-assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA);ii) Due to the balance between the thermal noise and residual interference, introducing excess reconfigurable elements at ARIS is not helpful to reduce the SOP;and iii) The secrecy throughput performance of ARIS-NOMA networks outperforms that of PRIS-NOMA and ARIS/PRIS-OMA networks. A multi-modal emotion recognition method based on facial multi-scale features and cross-modal attention (MS-FCA) network is proposed. The MSFCA model improves the traditional single-branch ViT network into a two-branch ViT architecture by using classification tokens in each branch to interact with picture embeddings in the other branch, which facilitates effective interactions between different scales of information. Subsequently, audio features are extracted using ResNet18 network. The cross-modal attention mechanism is used to obtain the weight matrices between different modal features, making full use of inter-modal correlation and effectively fusing visual and audio features for more accurate emotion recognition. Two datasets are used for the experiments: eNTERFACE'05 and REDVESS dataset. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method on the eNTERFACE'05 and REDVESS datasets is 85.42% and 83.84% respectively, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, a fast, effective and robust features extraction system has been developed. To successfully design this hardware architecture, a conversion from RGB to HSV was applied. Likewise, hardware architecture of Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) method was proposed. Vivado System Generator (VSG) tool was used to design architectures. To validate the performance of the proposed system, Benchmarks was applied. Moreover, execution time and resources utilization demonstrated a promising quality of such proposed system.

We say that a random variable is light-tailed if moments of order 2 + ∈ are finite for some ∈ > 0;otherwise, we say that it is heavy-tailed. We study queueing networks that operate under the Max-Weight scheduling policy, for the case where some queues receive heavy-tailed and some receive light-tailed traffic. Queues with light-tailed arrivals are often delay stable (that is, expected queue sizes are uniformly bounded over time) but can also become delay unstable because of resource-sharing with other queues that receive heavy-tailed arrivals. Within this context, and for any given "tail exponents" of the input traffic, we develop a necessary and sufficient condition under which a queue is robustly delay stable, in terms of jumping fluid models—an extension of traditional fluid models that allows for jumps along coordinates associated with heavy-tailed flows. Our result elucidates the precise mechanism that leads to delay instability, through a coordination of multiple abnormally large arrivals at possibly different times and queues and settles an earlier open question on the sufficiency of a particular fluid-based criterion.
