This paper describes the implementation of a learning-based lane detection algorithm on an autonomous mobile robot. More specifically, it explores the implementation of the Ultra Fast Lane Detection algorithm for real-time application on the SEATER (Single-passenger Electric Autonomous Transporter) prototype using a camera, with an emphasis on optimizing its performance on a Jetson Nano platform. Multi-core processing on the CPU and GPU has been implemented in this paper to optimize the application program and avoid delays or buffering. Preliminary experiments have been conducted to evaluate the algorithm's performance in terms of data processing speed and accuracy using two datasets: a public dataset for the outdoor environment and another dataset collected from the indoor area of the Workshop Building at BRIN Bandung. The experimental results show that after conversion to TensorRT, the algorithm achieves significantly improved performance on the Jetson Nano platform compared to the ONNX model, with processing speeds of approximately 101 ms using CULane and 105 ms using TuSimple-about 22 times faster than the previous model. While the algorithm demonstrates good accuracy on the public outdoor dataset, its performance falls short on the indoor dataset. Future work should focus on transfer learning and fine-tuning to improve indoor lane detection accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

The Arm TrustZone is the de facto standard for hardware-backed Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) on mobile devices, providing isolation for secure computations to be shielded from the normal world, and thus from the rest of the system. Most real-world TEEs are proprietary, difficultto- inspect, and notoriously insecure: In the past years, it has been demonstrated over and over again that TEEs of millions of devices worldwide, and the Trusted Applications (TAs) they harbor, are often vulnerable to attacks such as control flow hijacking. Not only do we have to trust these TEEs to provide a secure environment for TAs such as keystore and Digital Rights Management (DRM), code running in the secure world provided by the Arm TrustZone also has full access to the memory of the regular operating system (OS). Since Thomas Roth first proposed a TrustZone-based rootkit in 2013, progress regarding such rootkits seems to have stalled in the offensive research community. The biggest challenge for TrustZone rootkits is that no interpretation of normal world memory is available in the secure world. Automated reverse engineering of kernel data structures at runtime is one way to implement rootkit functions. We present mechanisms to engineer the interpretation of Linux kernel memory for malicious subversion and the circumvention of basic protection mechanisms from the secure world. We provide a fully working proof-of-concept rootkit located in the Arm TrustZone to demonstrate the proposed mechanisms. We evaluate and show compatibility of the rootkit across different versions of the Linux kernel despite changing data structures. Our results highlight the feasibility of TrustZone rootkits that potentially survive kernel updates and raise awareness about the real danger of having to put trust into unvetted proprietary vendor code, which, as we show, can easily be abused. © 2022 16th IEEE Workshop on Offensive Technologies, WOOT 2022, , co-located with IEEE S and P 2022. The manufacturing industry is constantly seeking innovative solutions to optimize machining processes. However, there is a lack of efficient digital platforms that fully meet the flexibility, service composition, and affordability needs of the manufacturing industry, in particular for small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs). This paper introduces the OptiTwin platform, a novel data-driven system designed to enhance machining process optimization for SMEs. The OptiTwin platform was developed with a focus on data acquisition, management, and analysis based on data driven models. The functionalities of the platform were validated through a drilling use case at Mondragon University's high-performance machining laboratory, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-time tool condition monitoring. The results showcase the potential of OptiTwin in optimizing machining processes and empowering SMEs with data-driven insights for enhanced productivity and quality assurance. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) has gained considerable attention for collaborative training in big data analysis, particularly in terms of privacy and communication constraints. Despite its promising advantages, FL faces the challenge of dealing with imbalanced label distribution on edge devices, which complicates the learning task. In literature, numerous studies have attempted to tackle this issue by introducing additional hyperparameters, which can complicate and prolong the process of model training and tuning. This complexity may potentially lead to overfitting and limited performance on new datasets. In this paper, we present a new Federated Learning framework called FedVC, which introduces virtual clients to minimize hyperparameter reliance. FedVC aims to bridge the gap between balanced and imbalanced label distribution. Compared with traditional federated learning frameworks, the proposed FedVC model designs a dynamically balanced dataset by utilizing virtual clients, which is proposed for the first time in this work. These virtual clients determine which part of the data should be used in one single training round and manage backpropagation timing for local real clients. The balanced dataset promotes greater stability in local models, thereby enhancing the overall stability of the training process. The experimental results show that FedVC outperforms classical FedAvg and the compared baseline methods for the data with imbalanced label distribution. Especially, FedVC exhibits more stable and accurate results than alternative approaches in highly heterogeneous settings. Modern transportation systems face growing challenges in managing traffic flow, ensuring safety, and maintaining operational efficiency amid dynamic traffic patterns. Addressing these challenges requires intelligent solutions capable of real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and adaptive control. This paper proposes an architecture for DigIT, a Digital Twin (DT) platform for Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS), designed to overcome the limitations of existing frameworks by offering a modular and scalable solution for traffic management. Built on a Domain Concept Model (DCM), the architecture systematically models key ITS components enabling seamless integration of predictive modeling and simulations. The architecture leverages machine learning models to forecast traffic patterns based on historical and real-time data. To adapt to evolving traffic patterns, the architecture incorporates adaptive Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), automating the deployment and lifecycle management of predictive models. Evaluation results highlight the effectiveness of the architecture in delivering accurate predictions and computational efficiency.

This work presents a new version of the salp swarm optimizer (SSA), called "mSSA," that uses complex mathematical expressions to dynamically manipulate the crucial control parameter (c1) during optimization. These expressions are carefully designed to modulate the shift in search strategy from exploratory to exploitative, improving the flexibility and speed of convergence of the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of the developed mSSA variants, a thorough examination is carried out on twenty-three benchmark test functions alongside their application to the complex task of software module classification. The process of classifying defective software modules involves developing a multilayer perceptron (MLP) classifier that is suited to the particular complexity and heterogeneity of the task. Selecting the best optimizer is made easier by systematically evaluating the different mSSA versions as MLP classifier trainers. Based on metrics like classification accuracy, convergence speed, and avoidance of local minima, a comparative analysis in opposition to six previously published metaheuristic optimizers shows that mSSA3, when combined with the developed MLP classifier, outperforms both other mSSA variations and state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimizers in terms of overall performance. The excellent classification accuracy, swift convergence, and ability to avoid local minima of mSSA3 highlight its superiority and establish it as a cutting-edge method in the application of metaheuristic algorithms. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Cyber-Physical systems (CPSs), e.g., elevator systems and autonomous driving systems, are progressively permeating our everyday lives. To ensure their safety, various analyses need to be conducted, such as anomaly detection and time-to-event analysis (the focus of this paper). Recently, it has been widely accepted that digital Twins (DTs) can serve as an efficient method to aid in the development, maintenance, and safe and secure operation of CPSs. However, CPSs frequently evolve, e.g., with new or updated functionalities, which demand their corresponding DTs be co-evolved, i.e., in synchronization with the CPSs. To that end, we propose a novel method, named PPT, utilizing an uncertainty-aware transfer learning for DT evolution. Specifically, we first pretrain PPT with a pretraining dataset to acquire generic knowledge about the CPSs, followed by adapting it to a specific CPS with the help of prompt tuning. Results highlight that PPT is effective in time-to-event analysis in both elevator and ADSs case studies, on average, outperforming a baseline method by 7.31 and 12.58 in terms of Huber loss, respectively. The experiment results also affirm the effectiveness of transfer learning, prompt tuning and uncertainty quantification in terms of reducing Huber loss by at least 21.32, 3.14 and 4.08, respectively, in both case studies. © 2023, CC BY.

Historical and current aerial photographs are only of great value if the geolocation or address of the photographed areas is also available. In Western Europe, especially Austria, Germany and Czech Republic, there is a market for the sale of aerial photographs of one’s own private residential building. Automated geolocation is a feasible way to enable the sales agents to assign the addresses for the sale more quickly. In the course of this research work, a process chain is modeled that allows the assignment of aerial photographs to residential addresses using machine vision. After model-based rectifying the aerial images to compensate for perspective distortions, larger image blocks get assembled using image stitching. The assignment to a 2D reference map, such as satellite imagery via Google Maps, is done by applying a U-Net CNN after extracting durable image features such as roads or buildings. The mapping of aerial imagery to two-dimensional cartography is either automated via registration approaches or based on manually placed corresponding landmarks and homography. Test runs on imagery between the years 1969 and 2020 show that the labor-intensive process of geolocation of aerial imagery can be solved by the proposed process model in a hybrid way. © 2022 The Authors.

Although orthopedics is becoming increasingly important as a medical domain, especially in emerging countries, the level of automation is still marginal and hardly any Industry 4.0 paradigms have been implemented. In this scientific work, solution concepts for holistic process automation in orthopedics are introduced so that prosthetic covers and orthoses for different body regions can be automated by using AI and evaluated with sensor networks. In this process, body scan models are adapted to the conditions of the anatomy or prosthesis models, so that stability as well as fitting accuracy are given in comparison with the other half of the body. Automation in the field of orthopedics leads not only to a significant reduction in costs but can also help to close the research gap regarding objectifiability of results. The first partial aspects have already been successfully implemented for leg prostheses, arm prostheses and shoe insoles with the aid of machine learning processes and physical models for elastic form fitting. As soon as the overall process has been realized, the applicability will be validated in the following year of the project by means of clinical studies and evaluated by utilizing sensor networks for pressure and temperature measurements. © 2023 The Authors.
