Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology supporting bidirectional power transfer allows electric vehicles (EVs) to contribute and consume energy bidirectionally. Because the specific properties and requirements of V2G, Khan et al. proposed a key agreement scheme for the V2G system to ensure the security of communication between a vehicle user and the grid server. However, after analyzing Khan et al.’s scheme, we find that it suffers from some flaws such that it cannot ensure anonymity, resist impersonation attack, man-in-the-middle attack and denial-of-service attack, and work as expected. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The elderly population in cities worldwide is experiencing significant growth each year, primarily due to advancements in medical technology and increased life expectancy. Consequently, the health of the elderly has become a paramount concern. To lead healthy and fulfilling lives, the elderly must engage in more active lifestyles. However, many activities that promote well-being, such as fishing, golfing, or hiking, may be restricted due to dangerous outdoor environments that pose a risk to their safety. This presents a critical challenge that needs to be addressed. To tackle this issue, our research combines two cutting-edge technologies, namely virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI), to develop an adaptive VR game specifically designed for elderly individuals seeking to enhance their overall health. VR, as an innovative electronic device, offers an immersive experience that allows users to engage with 3D 360-degree environments through VR glasses, providing a lifelike sensation. By leveraging the highly interactive nature of VR, users can partake in various movements and activities to effectively promote their health without encountering any physical risks. Furthermore, we have incorporated AI into the game to provide real-time guidance to users and dynamically adjust the game content as needed. This AI integration enables personalized advice based on the user's current situation, allowing the game to adapt to their specific health promotion goals. Through AI's analytical capabilities, the game content can be continuously optimized to better align with the user's objectives and ensure an engaging and effective experience. By combining VR and AI, our research aims to create a safe and immersive virtual environment for elderly individuals, enabling them to actively participate in activities that contribute to their well-being. IoT edge platform has become popular in various distributed environments. The edge devices need to communicate BigData among them or with the cloud servers by collaborating with AI technologies for finding events from the applications. Those devices exchange data streams from such as distributed sensors and remote image/video devices. We focus on an acceleration technique for the communication performance using a stream-based lossless data compression technology. This paper proposes a parallelization technique for the compression process in a software environment running on a multicore processor. The technique invokes concurrent compression processes assigned to multiple threads with splitting a data stream to chunks. The paper exposes three scheduling methods for assigning the chunks to the threads: in-order, hybrid and out-of-order. As an original data order of chunks must be obtained in decompression side, the proposed technique introduces packeting mechanisms in each chunk by adding headers to support the scheduling methods. Through experimental performance evaluations, we discuss the packeting overhead focusing on compression ratio and speedup by the parallelization with three scheduling methods. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper focuses on a performance enhancement of communication performance by compressing data stream. ASE coding is an effective lossless data compression method for data stream. The software implementation of the coding/decoding method inevitably meets a performance mismatch in memory and storage devices. In the compressor side, it is predictable to decide the size of an original data block and is available to process a flexible buffer memory. However, the decompressor is not able to predict the buffer size because the original data size is not obvious before the decompression. This causes a performance mismatch in the filesystem level. This paper proposes a novel method to address the performance mismatch by applying a notification mechanism of compression size from the compressor. This paper describes the mechanism focusing on the system call usage. Through experimental evaluations, we show the performance improvement of the decompression performance for handling data stream. © 2023 IEEE.

In the high-performance computing domain, Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a novel accelerator that exhibits high flexibility and performance characteristics distinct from other accelerators such as the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Recent advanced high-end FPGA is equipped with multiple channels of high speed optical link up to 100Gbps performance for each. This is a crucial feature when we construct PC clusters with FPGAs as accelerators, however it is not easy to utilize from user kernels because this feature is implemented in low level and simple direct communication between neighboring FPGAs. In order to provide the communication feature between FPGAs for accelerated PC clusters, we developed a communication system named CIRCUS which implies a user-friendly API from OpenCL and is equipped with routing function over multi-hop communication on multi-dimensional torus network of FPGAs. However, current CIRCUS only provides a point-to-point communication between source and destination FPGAs. In ordinary parallel processing environment such as MPI, the user program the message passing with various collective communication functions for parallel algorithm, for instance Allreduce, Allgather, etc. In this paper, we implement the collective communication function over CIRCUS for user-friendly programming of ordinary parallel algorithms on FPGAs. As the first target, we implement Allreduce function which is the most essential and important function. The paper describes the CIRCUS system briefly followed by the design, implementation and preliminary performance evaluation on Intel Stratix10 FPGAs. © 2023 ACM.

Recently, Wang et al. proposed a computationally transferable authenticated key agreement protocol for smart healthcare by adopting the certificateless public-key cryptography. They claimed that their protocol could ensure privacy, resist various attacks, and possess superior properties. After analyzing their protocol, we find that it suffers from some flaws. Firstly, user privacy is not ensured as claimed. Secondly, some statements are inaccurate or missing. Thirdly, it cannot resist DoS attack. In this paper, the details of how these flaws threaten Wang et al.'s protocol are shown. © 2023 IEEE.

Symmetries are ubiquitous in science, aiding theoretical comprehension by discerning patterns in mathematical models and natural phenomena. This work introduces a method for assessing the extent of symmetry within a time series. We explore both microscopic and macroscopic features extracted from a recurrence plot. By analyzing the statistics of small recurrence matrices, our approach delves into microscale dynamics, facilitating the identification of symmetric time series segments through diagonal macroscale structures on a recurrence plot. We validate our approach by successfully quantifying involution symmetries for three-dimensional dynamical models, specifically, order-2 rotational symmetry in the Lorenz '63 model, and inversion symmetry in the Chua circuit. Our quantifier also detects symmetry breaking in the modified Lorenz model for El Niño phenomenon. The method can be applied in a versatile manner, not only to three-dimensional trajectories but also to univariate time series. Symmetry quantification in time series is promising for enhancing dynamical system modeling and profiling.

Diagnosability is an important parameter to measure the fault tolerance of a multiprocessor system. If we only care about the state of a node, instead of doing the global diagnosis, Hsu and Tan proposed the idea of local diagnosis. Chiang and Tan provided an extended star structure to diagnose a node under comparison model. In this work, we evaluate the local diagnosability better by proposing a tree structure around this node. We provide the corresponding algorithm to diagnose the node. Simulation results are presented for different failure probability of a node in the tree and different percentage of faulty nodes in the tree, showing the performance of our algorithm. © 2024 Institute of Information science. Many Internet protocol (IP) lookup algorithms have been formulated to improve network performance. This study reviewed and experimentally evaluated technologies for trie-based methods that reduce memory access, memory consumption and IP lookup time. Experiments involving binary tries (for simplicity) were conducted on four real-world data sets, two of which were on IPv4 router tables (855,997 and 876,489 active prefixes) and two of which were on IPv6 router tables (155,310 and 157,579 active prefixes). Technologies designed to reduce time taken (at the expense of memory consumption) worked well for IPv4, and those designed to reduce memory consumption worked well for IPv6. Various combinations of these technologies were applied together in the experiments. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Effectively harnessing feature correlations is crucial for optimal performance in video action recognition tasks, whether in spatial or temporal dimensions. Convolutional operations excel at capturing local features through correlations among nearby points, while self-attention mechanisms capture global information by enabling interactions among all feature points. However, the limitations of a single convolutional layer in comprehending holistic feature correlations and the tendency of self-attention layers to overlook local positional characteristics necessitate an innovative approach. We introduce the Spatial–Temporal Convolutional Attention Network, comprising the Spatial Convolutional Attention Network and the Temporal Convolutional Attention Network. This approach strategically combines the strengths of self-attention for global context and convolution for local features, mitigating the limitations of individual layers. Key innovations include [explicitly state innovations]. To reinforce the uniqueness of our approach, we provide specific comparisons with existing methods, highlighting its superiority. In rigorous experiments, our proposed network demonstrates enhanced recognition performance, quantified through metrics such as accuracy and F1 score improvements over baseline models. By effectively capturing feature correlations, our approach elevates the neural network's capacity for spatiotemporal modeling, marking a significant advancement in video action recognition.
