Supercapacitors are known for longer cycle life and faster charging rate compared to batteries. However, the energy density of supercapacitors requires improvement to expand their application space. To raise the energy density of redox supercapacitors, this work demonstrates electro-polymerization on both sides of electrodes to increase material loading, reduce overall device mass, and consequently increase the capacitance, power, and energy density of supercapacitors. We achieved an energy density of 1823 mWh kg-1 and a power density of 16.5 W kg-1 with a wide potential window of 3 V. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces the R package INLAjoint, designed as a toolbox for fitting a diverse range of regression models addressing both longitudinal and survival outcomes. INLAjoint relies on the computational efficiency of the integrated nested Laplace approximations methodology, an efficient alternative to Markov chain Monte Carlo for Bayesian inference, ensuring both speed and accuracy in parameter estimation and uncertainty quantification. The package facilitates the construction of complex joint models by treating individual regression models as building blocks, which can be assembled to address specific research questions. Joint models are relevant in biomedical studies where the collection of longitudinal markers alongside censored survival times is common. They have gained significant interest in recent literature, demonstrating the ability to rectify biases present in separate modeling approaches such as informative censoring by a survival event or confusion bias due to population heterogeneity. We provide a comprehensive overview of the joint modeling framework embedded in INLAjoint with illustrative examples. Through these examples, we demonstrate the practical utility of INLAjoint in handling complex data scenarios encountered in biomedical research. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Local Sequential MCMC for Data Assimilation with Applications in Geoscience

This paper presents a new data assimilation (DA) scheme based on a sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo (SMCMC) DA technique [36] which is provably convergent and has been recently used for filtering, particularly for high-dimensional non-linear, and potentially, non-Gaussian state-space models. Unlike particle filters, which can be considered exact methods and can be used for filtering non-linear, non-Gaussian models, SMCMC does not assign weights to the samples/particles, and therefore, the method does not suffer from the issue of weight-degeneracy when a relatively small number of samples is used. We design a localization approach within the SMCMC framework that focuses on regions where observations are located and restricts the transition densities included in the filtering distribution of the state to these regions. This results in immensely reducing the effective degrees of freedom and thus improving the efficiency. We test the new technique on high-dimensional (d ∼ 104 − 105) linear Gaussian model and non-linear shallow water models with Gaussian noise with real and synthetic observations. For two of the numerical examples, the observations mimic the data generated by the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission led by NASA, which is a swath of ocean height observations that changes location at every assimilation time step. We also use a set of ocean drifters' real observations in which the drifters are moving according the ocean kinematics and assumed to have uncertain locations at the time of assimilation. This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOS process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

Generalized-linear dynamical models (GLDMs) remain a widely-used framework within neuroscience for modeling time-series data, such as neural spiking activity or categorical decision outcomes. Whereas the standard usage of GLDMs is to model a single data source, certain applications require jointly modeling two generalized-linear time-series sources while also dissociating their shared and private dynamics. Most existing GLDM variants and their associated learning algorithms do not support this capability. Here we address this challenge by developing a multi-step analytical subspace identification algorithm for learning a GLDM that explicitly models shared vs. private dynamics within two generalized-linear time-series. In simulations, we demonstrate our algorithm's ability to dissociate and model the dynamics within two time-series sources while being agnostic to their respective observation distributions. In neural data, we consider two specific applications of our algorithm for modeling discrete population spiking activity with respect to a secondary time-series. In both synthetic and real data, GLDMs learned with our algorithm more accurately decoded one time-series from the other using lower-dimensional latent states, as compared to models identified using existing GLDM learning algorithms.

A coupled system of volume integral and two-fluid hydrodynamic equations is solved to analyze electromagnetic field interactions with non-local dispersion effects on semiconductor nanostructures. This coupled system, where the hydrodynamic currents and the electric flux are the unknowns, is discretized using Schaubert-Wilton-Glisson basis functions. Numerical results obtained using this solver show the presence of so-called acoustic modes at the frequencies lower than the resonance frequency of localized surface plasmon (LSP) mode. These modes cannot be identified if a Drude-like model or the single-fluid hydrodynamic equation is used to represent the electrical properties of the semiconductors. © 2022 IEEE.

Education about health sciences has historically been limited in the curriculum of health professionals and largely inaccessible to the public. In practice, most of the health science education is still running conventionally. Supposedly with the advancement of technology and the use of the internet everywhere, learning such as e-learning can be important, especially in the health sector. Until this research was conducted, only 514 academic documents about e-learning in health sciences were found for 20 years from 2001 to 2020, obtained in searching on the Scopus database. This study presents a comprehensive overview of studies related to E-learning in the Health sciences sector. This study uses bibliometric analysis and indexed digital methods to map scientific publications throughout the world. This research employs the Scopus database to gather information, as well as the Scopus online analysis tool and Vosviewer to show the bibliometric network. The method consists with five stages: determining search keywords, initial search results, refinement of search results, initial compilation, and data analysis. Among the most published and indexed articles by Scopus, papers published by researchers in the United States have the highest number of publications (80), followed by United Kingdom (63) and Australia with 45 academic publications. The processed data shows the pattern and trend of increasing the number of international publications in E-learning in Health sciences field, which Scopus index. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Hierarchical B-frame Video Coding Using Two-Layer CANF without Motion Coding

Typical video compression systems consist of two main modules: motion coding and residual coding. This general architecture is adopted by classical coding schemes (such as international standards H.265 and H.266) and deep learning-based coding schemes. We propose a novel B-frame coding architecture based on two-layer Conditional Augmented Normalization Flows (CANF). It has the striking feature of not transmitting any motion information. Our proposed idea of video compression without motion coding offers a new direction for learned video coding. Our base layer is a low-resolution image compressor that replaces the full-resolution motion compressor. The low-resolution coded image is merged with the warped high-resolution images to generate a high-quality image as a conditioning signal for the enhancement-layer image coding in full resolution. One advantage of this architecture is significantly reduced computational complexity due to eliminating the motion information compressor. In addition, we adopt a skip-mode coding technique to reduce the transmitted latent samples. The rate-distortion performance of our scheme is slightly lower than that of the state-of-the-art learned B-frame coding scheme, B-CANF, but outperforms other learned B-frame coding schemes. However, compared to B-CANF, our scheme saves 45% of multiply–accumulate operations (MACs) for encoding and 27% of MACs for decoding. The code is available at https://***. The article describes a new method for malware classification,based on a Machine Learning(ML)model architecture specifically designed for malware detection,enabling real-time and accurate malware *** an innovative feature dimensionality reduction technique called the Interpolation-based Feature Dimensionality Reduction Technique(IFDRT),the authors have significantly reduced the feature space while retaining critical information necessary for malware *** technique optimizes the model’s performance and reduces computational *** proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to the BODMAS malware dataset,which contains 57,293 malware samples and 77,142 benign samples,each with a 2381-feature *** the IFDRT method,the dataset is transformed,reducing the number of features while maintaining essential data for accurate *** evaluation results show outstanding performance,with an F1 score of 0.984 and a high accuracy of 98.5%using only two reduced *** demonstrates the method’s ability to classify malware samples accurately while minimizing processing *** method allows for improving computational efficiency by reducing the feature space,which decreases the memory and time requirements for training and *** new method’s effectiveness is confirmed by the calculations,which indicate significant improvements in malware classification accuracy and *** research results enhance existing malware detection techniques and can be applied in various cybersecurity applications,including real-timemalware detection on resource-constrained *** and scientific contribution lie in the development of the IFDRT method,which provides a robust and efficient solution for feature reduction in ML-based malware classification,paving the way for more effective and scalable cybersecurity measures.

This paper proposed a novel landing platform with wireless power transfer (WPT) to charge multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) without restrictions on landing locations or alignment. A transmitter is designed using wires to charge a wide area. To overcome the disadvantages of system made by wires, a grid pattern transmitter and double power line are proposed. These structures provide multiple charging with free positioning of receivers and excite the transmitter lines in wide area properly. The optimized system is composed of 0.15m square cells, providing a 0.9 m by 0.9 m charging area. By experiment, it can efficiently charge four 0.1 m square receivers located anywhere in transmitter. The overall efficiency of four receivers is 37.5%. Also, the experimental results verify that it is unnecessary to align the receiver within the cell, as it has a 2.62% error due to rotation and a 2.94 % error due to position within the cell.
