We present a numerical simulation on the effect of leakage paths in the regrown GaN layer in the aperture and above the current blocking layer (CBL) of current aperture vertical electron transistor (CAVET) devices. Here, a 2D TCAD modeling is employed to simulate a CAVET device structure considering two main origins of parasitic leakage current from CBL/regrown-GaN interface and gate/regrown-GaN bulk and their degree of detrimental effect on the characteristics of AlGaN/GaN CAVETs.

Accurate and timely estimation of sunflower yield is crucial for agricultural researchers, farmers, and breeders. Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with multi-spectral sensors has been adopted to meet the need for precise sunflower seed yield predictions. This study proposes a combined approach that integrates 12 remotely sensed vegetation indices (VIs) with 3 key physiological traits - fresh weight, dry weight, and moisture factor - to capture the complex dynamics affecting sunflower crop. Predictive performance of VIs alone and in combination with physiological traits is evaluated using Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). Our results show that incorporating these two sets of features, along with their temporal, spectral, and statistical characteristics, leads to consistent improvements in sunflower seed yield estimation that can reduce the root mean squared error to as low as 0.4075 ( $\text{kg} / \text{plot}$ ).

This paper investigates the classification of low probability of intercept (LPI) radar signals by exploiting the intrinsic advantages of the Vision Transformer (ViT). Due to the characteristics of LPI radar signals, such as intrapulse modulation, wide frequency bands, and low transmission power, these signals are challenging to be detected and classified using traditional analytic methods. This has led to the adoption of various deep learning techniques to overcome these limitations. On the one hand, the ViT, originally developed for natural language processing, has demonstrated outstanding performance in computer vision by replacing the structure of the convolutional neural network (CNN) with the transformer, specifically leveraging self-attention. Therefore, this paper explores a method based on the ViT technique for classifying LPI signal images. The simulation results show that the proposed ViT method outperforms the traditional CNN method by 12.8% at −10dB SNR.

Early recognition of clinical deterioration (CD) has vital importance in patients’ survival from exacerbation or death. Electronic health records (EHRs) data have been widely employed in Early Warning Scores (EWS) to measure CD risk in hospitalized patients. Recently, EHRs data have been utilized in Machine Learning (ML) models to predict mortality and CD. The ML models have shown superior performance in CD prediction compared to EWS. Since EHRs data are structured and tabular, conventional ML models are generally applied to them, and less effort is put into evaluating the artificial neural network’s performance on EHRs data. Thus, in this article, an extremely boosted neural network (XBNet) is used to predict CD, and its performance is compared to eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and random forest (RF) models. For this purpose, 103,105 samples from thirteen Brazilian hospitals are used to generate the models. Moreover, the principal component analysis (PCA) is employed to verify whether it can improve the adopted models’ performance. The performance of ML models and Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS), an EWS candidate, are evaluated in CD prediction regarding the accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and geometric mean (G-mean) metrics in a 10-fold cross-validation approach. In this paper, a dual-channel converter with a positive output and negative voltage output is proposed. It integrates a positive voltage output converter and a negative voltage output converter, and shares the same switches. The number of active components can be reduced. In addition, the circuit can achieve dual output voltage control with a single controller and PWM drive signal by appropriately designing the ratio of the number of windings of the coupling inductor. A regulated positive voltage output and negative voltage output can be achieved.

Test-time adaptation (TTA) addresses the unforeseen distribution shifts occurring during test time. In TTA, performance, memory consumption, and time consumption are crucial considerations. A recent diffusion-based TTA approach for restoring corrupted images involves image-level updates. However, using pixel space diffusion significantly increases resource requirements compared to conventional model updating TTA approaches, revealing limitations as a TTA method. To address this, we propose a novel TTA method that leverages an image editing model based on a latent diffusion model (LDM) and fine-tunes it using our newly introduced corruption modeling scheme. This scheme enhances the robustness of the diffusion model against distribution shifts by creating (clean, corrupted) image pairs and fine-tuning the model to edit corrupted images into clean ones. Moreover, we introduce a distilled variant to accelerate the model for corruption editing using only 4 network function evaluations (NFEs). We extensively validated our method across various architectures and datasets including image and video domains. Our model achieves the best performance with a 100 times faster runtime than that of a diffusion-based baseline. Furthermore, it is three times faster than the previous model updating TTA method that utilizes data augmentation, making an image-level updating approach more feasible. ∗ © 2024, CC BY.

Quantum illumination (QI) provides entanglement-enabled target-detection enhancement, despite operating in an entanglement-breaking environment. Existing experimental studies of QI have utilized a Bayesian approach, assuming that the target is equally likely to be present or absent before detection, to demonstrate an advantage over classical target detection. However, such a premise breaks down in practical operational scenarios in which the prior probability is unknown, thereby hindering QI's applicability to real-world target-detection scenarios. In this work, we adopt the Neyman-Pearson criterion in lieu of the error probability for equally likely target absence or presence as our figure of merit for QI. We demonstrate an unconditional quantum advantage over the optimal classical-illumination protocol as benchmarked by the receiver operating characteristic, which examines detection probability versus false-alarm probability without resorting to known prior probabilities. The Neural Networks (NN) model which is incorporated in the control system design has been studied, and the results show better performance than the mathematical model approach. However, some studies consider that only offline NN model learning and does not use the online NN model learning directly on the control system. As a result, the controller's performance decreases due to changes in the system environment from time to time. The Reinforcement Learning (RL) method has been investigated intensively, especially Model-based RL (Mb-RL) to predict system dynamics. It has been investigated and performs well in making the system more robust to environmental changes by enabling online learning. This paper proposes online learning of local dynamics using the Mb-RL method by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. We consider Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme as an agent of the Mb-RL method to control the regulatory trajectory objectives with a random shooting policy to search for the minimum objective function. A nonlinear Mass Spring Damper (NMSD) system with parameter-varying linear inertia is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the system can effectively control high-oscillating nonlinear systems with good performance.

In many areas of electronics design, it is necessary to understand the different aspects of capacitance associated with various conducting surfaces in a particular layout. This is because as operating frequencies increase and dimensions decrease, capacitive coupling can become the dominant means in which noise is induced in a design. Therefore, having the ability to extract an equivalent circuit for modeling capacitive coupling and understanding the coupling can be very important, and challenging. This paper presents insight on capacitive coupling by evaluating the capacitance between two parallel plates, with particular attention paid to the self-capacitance (with a reference at infinity) of each of the individual plates. More specifically, the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method is used to compute the self-capacitance of each individual plate in the parallel plate capacitor problem, and results are verified by comparison to values from James C. Maxwell's original works and the electrostatic solver ANSYS Maxwell 3D. Overall, it is shown how the self-capacitance of each individual plate changes as a function of distance between the parallel plates. © 2022 IEEE.

Disentangled Motion Modeling for Video Frame Interpolation

Video Frame Interpolation (VFI) aims to synthesize intermediate frames between existing frames to enhance visual smoothness and quality. Beyond the conventional methods based on the reconstruction loss, recent works have employed generative models for improved perceptual quality. However, they require complex training and large computational costs for pixel space modeling. In this paper, we introduce disentangled Motion Modeling (MoMo), a diffusion-based approach for VFI that enhances visual quality by focusing on intermediate motion modeling. We propose a disentangled two-stage training process. In the initial stage, frame synthesis and flow models are trained to generate accurate frames and flows optimal for synthesis. In the subsequent stage, we introduce a motion diffusion model, which incorporates our novel U-Net architecture specifically designed for optical flow, to generate bi-directional flows between frames. By learning the simpler low-frequency representation of motions, MoMo achieves superior perceptual quality with reduced computational demands compared to the generative modeling methods on the pixel space. MoMo surpasses state-of-the-art methods in perceptual metrics across various benchmarks, demonstrating its efficacy and efficiency in VFI. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
