In this paper we consider a stochastic SEIQR (susceptible-exposed-infected-quarantined-recovered) epidemic model with a generalized incidence function. Using the Lyapunov method, we establish the existence and uniqueness of a global positive solution to the model, ensuring that it remains well-defined over time. Through the application of Young’s inequality and Chebyshev’s inequality, we demonstrate the concepts of stochastic ultimate boundedness and stochastic permanence, providing insights into the long-term behavior of the epidemic dynamics under random perturbations. Furthermore, we derive conditions for stochastic extinction, which describes scenarios where the epidemic may eventually die out, and V-geometric ergodicity, which indicates the rate at which the system’s state converges to its equilibrium. Finally, we perform numerical simulations to verify our theoretical results and assess the model’s behavior under different parameters. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Human cognitive processes remain an area of strong interest and ongoing research. One tool to gain greater insight into this process is neuronal modeling. The following features are desirable in a neuronal modeling tool: a library of known parameters for different neurons and species, the ability to select the neuron and species of interest, the ability to quickly simulate neuronal behavior, and the ability to calculate metabolic requirements and efficiencies for various neuronal activity. Many of these can be found in software today, but not all elements can be found in one entity. The goal of this work is to develop a neuronal modeling tool that incorporates these features. © 2022 IEEE.

This research-to-practice paper describes developing and analyzing state-of-the-art smart boots created by combining CAD technology and advanced 3D printing techniques to attract students in bio-engineering and related fields. The primary objective of this innovative immobilization boot is to expedite fracture recovery phases through an ergonomic design to ensure optimal patient comfort during its use. Technological solutions are crucial in aiding the rehabilitation process for fractures caused by falls, heavy lifting, or rotational trauma. However, cost and comfort-related issues persist, underscoring the need for alternative approaches. This research addresses these challenges and delves into the broader implications of fracture treatment, catalyzing future projects and investigations in bioengineering. Additionally, this study serves as an educational tool that sparks the interest of high school and engineering students, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration in innovation. By involving students in specialized courses covering 3D design, human bone anatomy, biology, and materials science, this initiative empowers them to deepen their knowledge and develop new technologies to address bone injury problems. Material analyses include evaluating the type of material depending on the fracture site, such as PLA for printing and cotton and silicone gel for the midsection between the splint and the body. This research aims to advance our understanding of the type of fracture, the methods associated with their treatment, and tissue repair processes during bone callus formation. To summarize, this multidisciplinary approach drives advancements in bio-engineering and related fields, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and inspire students to pursue further research in bio-engineering and related fields. In mobile robotics, an essential requirement for the fusion of different sensors is that measurements are expressed with respect to the same reference. In this sense, the transformation between sensors and robot is necessary to ensure better sensor fusion. Therefore, this article proposes an extrinsic sensor calibration based on markers and associated to three orthogonal planes. This technique is applied to two calibration approaches, LiDAR-Robot and LiDAR-Camera. The first one calculates the transformation between a 3D LiDAR sensor and a robot, and the second system calculates the transformation between a 3D LiDAR and an embedded RGB camera. To demonstrate the efficiency of our method, we performed simulations on the CoppeliaSim simulator and experiments in the laboratory. Then, the results show that it is possible to calibrate the sensors with the methodologies.

Experimental heavy-ion responses of two variants of SiC power MOSFETs are evaluated. The devices have similar epitaxial thickness but different doping. The higher doping in the epitaxial region results in lower breakdown voltage, and typically leads to a lower threshold drain voltage at which single-event leakage current (SELC) occurs. Furthermore, the heavy-ion-induced SELC degradation in the drain and gate currents of the SiC MOSFETs exhibit a strong dependence on the heavy-ion's angle of incidence. The devices' behavior significantly alters when irradiated with heavy-ions at different incident angles under the same fixed bias and total fluence, as also confirmed by 3-D Technology computer Aided Design (TCAD) simulations. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This work introduces an approach to compute periodic phase diagram of micromagnetic systems by solving a periodic linearized Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation using an eigenvalue solver with the Finite Element Method formalism. The linear operator in the eigenvalue problem is defined as a function of the periodic phase-shift wave vector. The dispersion diagrams are obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem for complex eigenfrequencies and corresponding eigenstates for a range of prescribed wave vectors. The presented approach incorporates a calculation of the periodic effective field, including the exchange and magnetostatic field components. The approach is general in that it allows 3D problems to be handled with any 1D, 2D, and 3D periodicities. The ability to calculate periodic diagrams provides insights into the spin wave propagation and localized resonances in complex micromagnetic structures. © 1965-2012 IEEE.

Kidney cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. The major types of malignant renal tumors are renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma. Although the majority of renal tumors are malignant, up to $20\%$ are benign, most commonly renal cyst and angiomyolipomas. Ultrasound is the most accessible imaging tool in medical practice, but it highly depends on operator skill, which may lead to high false-negative rate in diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to develop a predictive model for the automated classification of renal tumors on ultrasound images using deep neural network. A total of 880 kidney ultrasound images were used for training and testing. Transfer learning was used to the ten Convolution neural network models. The kidney ultrasound images were classified as benign or malignant tumors. The classification performance of the model was evaluated by sensitivity and specificity. The research results show that VGG18 yielded the best performance, with a sensitivity of $79 \%$, and a specificity of $86 \%$.

In the digital transformation era, Metaverse offers a fusion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and web technologies to create immersive digital experiences. However, the evolution of the Metaverse is slowed down by the challenges of content creation, scalability, and dynamic user interaction. Our study investigates an integration of Mixture of Experts (MoE) models with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for mobile edge computing to revolutionize content creation and interaction in the Metaverse. Specifically, we harness an MoE model's ability to efficiently manage complex data and complex tasks by dynamically selecting the most relevant experts running various sub-models to enhance the capabilities of GAI. We then present a novel framework that improves video content generation quality and consistency, and demonstrate its application through case studies. Our findings underscore the efficacy of MoE and GAI integration to redefine virtual experiences by offering a scalable, efficient pathway to harvest the Metaverse's full potential. © 2024, CC BY.

Coherence analysis plays a vital role in the study of functional brain connectivity. However, coherence captures only linear spectral associations, and thus can produce misleading findings when ignoring variations of connectivity in the tails of the distribution. This limitation becomes important when investigating extreme neural events that are characterized by large signal amplitudes. The focus of this paper is to examine connectivity in the tails of the distribution, as this reveals salient information that may be overlooked by standard methods. We develop a novel notion of spectral tail association of periodograms to study connectivity in the network of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of seizure-prone neonates. We further develop a novel non-stationary extremal dependence model for multivariate time series that captures differences in extremal dependence during different brain phases, namely burst-suppression and non-burst-suppression. One advantage of our proposed approach is its ability to identify tail connectivity at key frequency bands that could be associated with outbursts of energy which may lead to seizures. We discuss these novel scientific findings alongside a comparison of the extremal behavior of brain signals for epileptic and non-epileptic patients. © 2025, CC BY.

In Internet of Things (IoT) applications, data flows are continuous streams of high-dimensional time series that aggregate various data sources. In this context, decision-making processes frequently encompass multiple factors and criteria that demand forecasting these time series. This paper introduces MO-WMVFTS, a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fuzzy time series (FTS) method for tackling this complex scenario. MO-WMVFTS is a hybrid forecasting method that fuses weighted multivariate FTS (WMVFTS) with embedding transformations, designed for IoT applications. To assess the performance of the proposed method, it was applied to the prediction of energy consumption in smart homes and air quality in smart cities. Here, three real-world datasets are used to assess the validity of our proposed approach, and the results obtained are highly competitive when compared to other existing methods. © 2024 IEEE.
