Channel allocation control (CAC), especially the charge of handoff calls is still the key functionality to the QoS and resource utilization of next generation wireless cellular networks (NGWCS). With the wide acceptance and development of the Internet, it is trend to integrate all of services and devices into Internet. At the same time, the fast development of communication technology that is evolved from narrowband dial-up networks to current broadband networks, from fixed PSTN phone to mobile phone and from wired network to wireless network. In the foreseeable future, the communication will be converged to IP centric networks to come up pervasive/ubiquitous network environments. In this paper, the functions of SIP protocol, video/audio codec, and video/audio streaming are integrated to realize a video/audio phone system in embedded platform. Based on the multi-thread environment, the modules of motion JPEG, SIP signaling protocol, and video/audio streaming are designed to come out a SIP-based video/audio streaming system. The system can be applied to the applications of remote surveillance, digital door phone, interphone, and Internet phone.

With a very limited knowledge of the plant (delay and monotonicity sign) and without any kind of off-line pre-training, a Self-Organizing and Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Controller is developed to reduce the energy consumption during a control process. Our on-line adaptive controller is able to modify and to adapt the rule base of the system by learning from the real behavior of the plant. A comparison results - based on the real electrical consumption - between several conventional control algorithms and the adaptive one is presented, this latter has been able to provide a quite interesting output signal that optimizes the energy consumption without losing the control performance.

The Internet has emerged to be an effective platform for world universities to share their academic outcomes and to show their influence and contribution via constructing rich and easy-to-access web sites. At the same time, Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (WR), proposed by Centre for Scientific Information and Documentation (CSIC), ranks the world universities by the quantity of digital documents available on their web sites and the quality of the web pages measured by the incoming hyperlinks. Therefore, WR is currently recognized as an important index and opportunity for universities willing to promote themselves by the Internet technology. In this paper, we propose a novel cloud-based information providing system for Webometrics Rankings which employs web mining techniques to gather the WR indices from the Internet automatically, and provides useful information in real time for the managers of university web sites. The proposed system is dep.oyed on Microsoft Azure cloud platform in order to give up-to-data and deeper insights of the WR ranking indicators for its users. It utilizes the scalable computation and storage capability of the cloud platform to continually gather the WR index data from the Internet. The proposed system is designed with architecture suitable for cloud-based application such that the period to thoroughly update the WR ranking data is shortened from six months to be within one week. The proposed service model provides a paradigm for constructing cloud-based service of information providing applications.

We propose a method to automatically translate a preexisting activity recognition system, devised for a source sensor domain S, so that it can operate on a newly discovered target sensor domain T, possibly of different modality. First, we use MIMO system identification techniques to obtain a function that maps the signals of S to T. This mapping is then used to translate the recognition system across the sensor domains. We demonstrate the approach in a 5-class gesture recognition problem translating between a vision-based skeleton tracking system (Kinect), and inertial measurement units (IMUs). An adequate mapping can be learned in as few as a single gesture (3 seconds) in this scenario. The accuracy after Kinect → IMU or IMU → Kinect translation is 4% below the baseline for the same limb. Translating across modalities and also to an adjacent limb yields an accuracy 8% below baseline. We discuss the sources of errors and means for improvement. The approach is indep.ndent of the sensor modalities. It supports multimodal activity recognition and more flexible real-world activity recognition system dep.oyments.
