Electric power utilities develop asset management (AM) strategies, based upon their reliability studies, which provide brighter images of the utility company's performance. Failure rate models are highly instrumental in transforming from simple reliability analyses into effective AM strategies. This paper proposes an adaptive network-based inference approach, to model momentary failure rate, in terms of the most influential factors. These factors are achieved through the vast field studies and historical outage fault statistics of the Greater Tehran Electricity Distribution Company (GTEDC) network. Performance of the presented failure rate model is tested, and discussions on capabilities of the model are then presented in detail.

Under the fast-developing carbon trading market, the construction industry needs to mitigate carbon emissions from construction processes. Among various construction processes, tunnel construction produces a significant amount of carbon emissions, since it utilizes various types of high energy-consuming equipment. In order to identify and mitigate such carbon emissions of a tunneling project, it is required to reliably estimate carbon footprints of a tunneling project in the pre-planning phase. This paper presents the methodology for estimating the carbon footprints generated during tunnel construction processes using the collaborative tunneling simulation. A case study using this methodology shows that carbon footprints from a utility tunnel construction are significant compared with those from a building construction. In addition, the assessment of carbon footprints of the case study identifies the opportunities to mitigate such impact by supporting decision-making on equipment and operation plans in the planning phase and providing a control target level of carbon footprints in the execution phase. Tooth bleaching is receiving an increasing interest by patients and dentists since it is a relatively non-invasive approach for whitening and lightening teeth. Instrument designed for tooth color measurements and visual assessment with commercial shade guides are nowadays used to evaluate the tooth color. However, the degree of color change after tooth bleaching varied substantially among studies and currently, there are no objective guidelines to predict the effectiveness of a tooth bleaching treatment. Fuzzy logic is a well known paradigm for data modelling; their main advantage is their ability to provide an interpretable set of rules that can be later used by the scientists. However these models have the problem that the global approximation optimization can lead to a deficient rule local modelling. This work proposes a modified fuzzy model that performs a simultaneous global and local modelling. This property is reached thanks to a special partitioning of the input space in the fuzzy system. The proposed approach is used to approximate a set of color measurements taken after a bleaching treatment using the pre-bleaching measurements. The system uses as rule antecedents the colorimetric values of the VITA commercial shade guide. The expected post-bleaching colorimetric values are immediately obtained from the local models (rules) of the system thanks to the proposed modified fuzzy model. Additionally, these post-bleaching CIELAB coordinate values have been associated with VITA shades through the evaluation of their respective membership functions, approximating which VITA shades are expected after the treatment for each pre-bleaching VITA shade.

in recent years ERP, as a comprehensive new system, has been used by many Malaysian companies. It has been successful in some and in some others it has failed. This article assesses 15 success factors and 8 failure factors in SME companies and tries to recognize the effective ones. The results show that the two most important failure factors in implementing ERP in Malaysian SMEs are 'poor planning or poor management ' and 'inappropriate training methods' and the most important success factors are ' Implementing team's teamwork and composition' and ' Effective training of users'. It could be conducted that team work is a key success factor in Malaysian SMEs and also training is of vital importance.
