In all kind of information exchange, security is essential. One protection goal that has to be enforced is confidentiality. In state-of-the-art protocols, messages are encrypted before they are transmitted to ensure their confidentiality. However, incorporating novel technologies like network coding allows for more efficient solutions. Within this article, we compare different solutions for confidential communication by means of network coding at physical layer and at network layer. We discuss security, efficiency, and computational complexity of these approaches. The results allow to draw conclusions about the choice of a suited communication scheme dep.nding on the system model and the relevant parameters.

Paraphrase evaluation is used to determine whether two input sentences share a same meaning. The automatic analysis for paraphrase evaluation technology has a potential use in the area of information retrieval technology since correctly paraphrased sentences can be used as alternative input sentence in the retrieval process. In this paper, we suggest an evaluation method that is suitable for the Korean language by using morphological analysis. Using our method, we present preliminary results on how our automatic evaluation scores compare to the human evaluation scores.

The six Degrees of freedom (6-Dof) Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) aims to build a map of an unknown environment and simultaneously use this map to compute the location with 6-Dof poses. To solve this problem, probabilistic approaches such as Particle Filters (PF) have become dominant methods. PF suffers from certain problems (e.g. the need for large number of particles and so on) which induce high computational complexity. In this paper, an efficient SLAM framework is proposed and new ideas for each module are presented. By combining machine vision and a PF algorithm called the Exponential Natural Particle Filter (xNPF), the predicted results converge close to the true target states. Experimental results validate the potential of the proposed approach.

Due to technology scaling, the number of processor cores on a chip constantly increases. Already today, we reach the domain of so called many-core systems-on-chip. However, this advance comes at the cost of reliability, which especially affects the communication performance of the underlying network-on-chip. Today's resiliency concepts for network-on-chip like automatic repeat request with retransmission are not feasible anymore and lead to long latencies and high network load. In this paper, we propose an on-chip transmission concept based on random linear network coding to provide high resiliency and an efficient communication in many-core processors at the same time. The concept offers a flexible and efficient computable coding scheme, which is well suited for on-chip communication and allows to exploit the path diversity of large networks. First, we use a flit-level cycle-accurate simulation model to investigate the performance potential of the proposed transmission scheme on a network-on-chip with 64 cores. Second, we propose an analytic model for random linear network coding in network-on-chip with retransmission, which is able to provide a very accurate performance estimation close to the cycle-accurate simulation. Finally, we apply the analytic model to investigate the performance potential on the large-scale, assuming a processor with 1024 cores.

This paper addresses the problem of fault detection in the context of a collection of agents performing a shared task and exchanging relative information over a communication network. A techniques in the literature is used to construct a meaningful observable system equivalent to the original unobservable system of systems. A solution involving Set-Valued Observers (SVOs) and a left-coprime factorization of the system is proposed to estimate the state in a distributed fashion and a proof of convergence of the estimates is given under mild assumptions. The performance of the detection algorithm against deterministic and stochastic faults;and when the system is subject to unmodeled disturbances is assessed through simulations. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Surface clutter can corrupt both Earth and planetary Radar Sounder (RS) observations preventing definitive interpretation of subsurface features, which are often the primary interest of geologists and planetary scientists. Clutter is usually detected by manual or automatic techniques that require ancillary information about the topography of the surface. However, this topography information is not always available. In this paper, we propose a novel method for clutter detection that is indep.ndent from ancillary information. This method uses a two channel RS system to exploit the cross-channel interferometric phase difference and is made up three main steps: i) feature extraction and theoretical phase difference estimation, ii) RS interferogram formation and iii) comparison of theoretical and real phase difference distributions. The proposed method has been validated on RS data acquired in Greenland.

This paper addresses the problem of high computational requirements in the implementation of Set-Valued Observers (SVOs), which places stringent constraints in terms of their use in applications where low computational power is available or the plant is sensitive to delay. It is firstly shown how to determine an overbound for the set-valued estimates, which reduces the overhead by limiting the number of inequalities defining those set-valued state estimates. In the particular setting of distributed gossip problems, the proposed algorithm is shown to have constant complexity. This algorithm is of prime importance to reduce the computational load and enable the use of such estimates for real-time applications. Results are also provided regarding the frequency of the triggers in the worst-case scenario. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulation.

To improve utilization of resources, efficient resource sharing technique is the key requirement. Recently, Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) has been explored as a resource sharing technique for the modern Internet architecture. The VNE techniques suggested in literature, fault tolerance of connections and nodes of network has not been taken into account. Therefore, these techniques improve resource utilization but their performance is not reliable in realistic network scenario considering the presence of failure in real network environment. To incorporate fault tolerance into account while designing VNE technique, this paper proposes a method for enhancing fault tolerance and reducing delay using Non-dominated Sorting based Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II). A multi-objective optimization problem is mathematically derived. The two objectives of the optimization problem are fault tolerance and delay of a network path. Modified NSGA-II is developed to solve the optimization problem. Analysis of simulation results confirms that M-NSGA-II effectively optimizes both the objectives of the problem of VNE.

Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is necessary to explore the factors leading to heavy drought and rainy-flood disaster in some districts of Sichuan province. A method based RS, GIS, GPS and Google earth (GE) is presented to establish LUCC database in Sichuan province and Chengdu district. At first, LUCC is interpreted based on the new temporal images and the land use and land cover database from TM in ***, some ground objects, which could not be identified in the new temporal images, were interpreted utilizing GE with some higher spatial resolution images. Thirdly, the new interpreted LUCC was validated in the field with GPS handheld receiver. Then, LUCC of Sichuan province was updated. A comparative analysis of LUCC between in Sichuan province and in Chengdu district was conducted and the result showed: (1) a large amount of farmland in Sichuan Province was occupied from 2000 to 2005 and the area is 84 573 ha. While construction land gained obviously and the area was 35 828 ha. The dynamic degree of construction land was 111.10 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005. The LUCC demonstrated that the economy of Sichuan province continued to develop, the cities were overspreading and the urban heat island effect was deteriorated from 2000 to 2005. (2) A large amount of farmland was also occupied in Chengdu district from 2000 to 2005, the area amounted to 12 989 ha. The farmland lost was mainly changed to construction land, amounting to 93%. And the dynamic degree was 117.41 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005, which was bigger than that in Sichuan province.

This paper addresses the problem of finite-time convergence in a social network for a political party or an association, modeled as a distributed iterative system with a graph dynamics chosen to mimic how people interact. It is firstly shown that, in this setting, finite-time convergence is achieved only when nodes form a complete network, and that contacting with agents with distinct opinions reduces to a half the required interconnections. Two novel strategies are presented that enable finite-time convergence, even for the case where each node only contacts the two closest neighbors. These strategies are of prime importance, for instance, in a company environment where agents can be motivated to reach faster conclusions. The performance of the proposed policies is assessed through simulation, illustrating, in particular the finite-time convergence property.
