Recently, cloud computers are widely used due to the development of computing environment and network speed. Unikernel is considered to be an attractive operating system in the manycore environment that effectively provides cloud computers. HalVM is a unikernel coded in Haskell. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Haskell running in a unikernel, which has shown good parallel programming performance in a manycore environment. To do this, we select HaLVM as the target operating system and analyze the performance by testing various Haskell parallel programming models. Test result shows that HaLVM is scalable only on IVC. We also implement a library to make programming with IVC more convenient, and use this library to compare extensibility experiments. Our test shows HaLVM's scalability is 112.42% higher than Linux environment. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Vehicles capable of operating in more than one environment have been developed to solve real problems. Among them, the hybrid unmanned aerial-underwater vehicle (HUAUV) is receiving attention from the robotics community, mainly with a quadrotor-like configuration. However, this vehicle presents high energy consumption because of the larger mass required compared to the only aerial vehicle, limiting its autonomy. This work addresses the trajectory planning problem for a HUAUV. The method is based on Rapidly-exploring Random Trees (RRTs), a highly customizable planning technique. In addition, we propose two new heuristics to increase the energy efficiency of the hybrid vehicle. The first consists of biasing the tree expansion towards the environment with the lowest navigation cost, while the second one assigns estimated costs to nodes in the tree and chooses the least expensive trajectories. These techniques are evaluated in physically realistic simulation experiments performed in 135 scenarios. A comparative analysis of their performances is presented relative to the state of the art. We show that using efficient heuristics can significantly contribute to reducing energy consumption and even increase the average velocity in the missions performed by these vehicles.

As computers with manycore architecture are being widely spread, parallel programming becomes a pending issue. While parallel programming has been a challenging issue, Haskell is known to be of the best available one. The immutability and declarative nature of Haskell suit well the need for parallelism. In our previous work, we implemented the SAM, a parallel programming model based on Haskell. In this paper, we propose the SSAM, an updated version of SAM, by solving the performance overhead of SAM socket. We discuss the architecture of SSAM and its major functions and show the 14% scalability upgrade in a performance test. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The current industry has to adapt to rapidly changing customers' needs. Reconfigurable manufacturing, therefore, provides capacity and functionality on demand which is essential for competitiveness in fast-changing markets. Furthermore, Industry 4.0 or even more so, Industry 5.0 emphasizes human-centred production with collaborative robots, Cobots, to create human-robot interactions. In such scenarios, safety and security are difficult to address due to the intrinsic features of reconfigurable manufacturing, like exposure to numerous requirements changes in a short period. As safety and security can conflict in different phases of the system life-cycle, one of the earliest activities to avoid conflicts is requirements engineering which can significantly diminish the cost and time of fixing issues compared to later phases like operation. This paper proposes a methodology for safety and security requirements interaction management, including conflict detection and resolution, and shows its applicability through a reconfigurable collaborative human-robot use case. Based on the proposed methodology, we detected and resolved two safety and security requirement conflicts.

Human resource is one of the most valuable assets in an organization. They are bounded to develop the unique and dynamic aspects that strengthen their competitive advantage to persist in an always changing market environment. In order to recruit a quality candidate for an organization, reducing human involvement and verifying details of the candidate is important in recruitment process. Furthermore, having an idea about how well or poor the employees perform, and how likely the employee attrition can occur is vital in human resource management process. This paper is an attempt to introduce smart human resource management system that can maximize the productivity of an organizational environment using machine learning and blockchain technologies. The end goal of this research is a smart human resource management system that reduces human judgment, time in the candidate selection process and predicts employee performance and attrition to motivate current employers to maximize productivity with minimal financial loss in the workplace environment. Skill assessment and resume classification have been done using unsupervised learning algorithms and natural language processing after extracting raw data from employee resumes using Object Character Recognition. Candidate details verification is done by comparing the hashes of the records which are stored in the blockchain. Employee performance and attrition are predicted using supervised machine learning classification techniques with high accuracy and the result of the final performance is generated as a score for each employee considering the multiple attributes that has been standardized and regulated by some specifically considered e-competence frameworks. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper presents the results of several machine learning experiments, conducted with a dataset of YouTube comments in Arabic. The experiments aim at studying the impact of various text preprocessing, feature-extraction and feature-selection techniques on the accuracy of a document classifier for detection of offensive language in online communication in Arabic. Regarding data pre-processing, our experiments focus on filtering out noisy characters and normalising inconsistencies present in casual online writing in Arabic. The combined effect of these data preprocessing techniques and a few feature-extraction and feature-selection methods is then evaluated by training document classifiers. Our results give evidence that it is possible to train a classifier for the detection of offensive language on Arabic social media with reasonable overall accuracy of 0.84, and precision, recall and F1-score of 0.89, 0.76 and 0.81, respectively. © 2021 IEEE.

A Simplified Variant of Gödel's Ontological Argument

A simplified variant of Gödel's ontological argument is presented. The simplified argument is valid already in basic modal logics K or KT, it does not suffer from modal collapse, and it avoids the rather complex predicates of essence (Ess.) and necessary existence (NE) as used by Gödel. The variant presented has been obtained as a side result of a series of theory simplification experiments conducted in interaction with a modern proof assistant system. The starting point for these experiments was the computer encoding of Gödel's argument, and then automated reasoning techniques were systematically applied to arrive at the simplified variant presented. The presented work thus exemplifies a fruitful human-computer interaction in computational metaphysics. Whether the presented result increases or decreases the attractiveness and persuasiveness of the ontological argument is a question I would like to pass on to philosophy and theology. This paper addresses the influence of nanoparticles (NPs) on the dielectric properties of polyurethane. In this research, we only investigated the effect of Al2O3, MgO and ZnO NPs for concentrations up to 2% wt and in the temperature range from 25 to 120 °C. During the preparation of nanocomposites, polymer chains bind to NPs, which then limits their mobility. This effect results in a decrease in real permittivity and the course of polarization mechanisms. We observed an increase in permittivity over the entire temperature range only for a 2% MgO concentration. The decrease in the mobility of polymer chains was confirmed by dynamic-mechanical analysis. This method also results in an increase in the glass transition temperature dep.nding on the type and concentration of NPs. The presence of NPs and the limited mobility of the polymer chains results in a shift of the low-frequency local maximum to lower frequencies © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Roadblocks to Attracting Students to software Testing Careers: Comparisons of Replicated Studies

Context. Recently, a family of studies highlighted the unpopularity of software testing careers among undergraduate students in software engineering and computer science courses. The original study and its replications explored the perception of students in universities in four countries (Canada, China, India, and Malaysia), and indicated that most students do not consider a career in software testing as an option after graduation. This scenario represents a problem for the software industry since the lack of skilled testing professionals might decrease the quality of software products and increase the number of unsuccessful projects. Goal. The present study aims to replicate, in Brazil, the studies conducted in the other four countries to establish comparisons and support the development of strategies to improve the visibility and importance of software testing among undergraduate students across the globe. Method. We followed the same protocol in the original study to collect data using a questionnaire and analyzed the answers using descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis. Results. Our findings indicate similarities among the results obtained in Brazil in comparison to those obtained from other countries. We observed that students are not motivated to follow a testing career in the software industry based on a belief that testing activities lack challenges and opportunities for continuous learning. Conclusions. In summary, students seem to be interested in learning more about software testing. However, the lack of discussions about the theme in software development courses, as well as the limited offer of courses focused on software quality at the university level reduce the visibility of this area, which causes a decrease in the interest in this career. © 2022, CC BY.

Device identity management and authentication are one of the critical and primary security challenges in IoT. In order to decrease the IoT attack surface and provide protection from security threats such as introduction of fake IoT nodes and identity theft, IoT requires scalable device identity management systems and resilient device authentication mechanisms. Existing mechanisms for device identity management and device authentication were not designed for huge number of devices and therefore are not suitable for IoT environments. This work presents results of a blockchain-based identity management approach with consensus authentication, as a scalable solution for IoT device authentication management. Our identity management approach relies on having a blockchain secure tamper proof registry and lightweight consensus-based identity authentication. © 2020 Owner/Author.
