We tackle the problem of a set of agents achieving resilient consensus in the presence of attacked agents. We present a discrete-time reputation-based consensus algorithm for synchronous and asynchronous networks by developing a local strategy where, at each time, each agent assigns a reputation (between zero and one) to each neighbor. The reputation is then used to weigh the neighbors' values in the update of its state. Under mild assumptions, we show that: (i) the proposed method converges exponentially to the consensus of the regular agents;(ii) if a regular agent identifies a neighbor as an attacked node, then it is indeed an attacked node;(iii) if the consensus value of the normal nodes differs from that of any of the attacked nodes' values, then the reputation that a regular agent assigns to the attacked neighbors goes to zero. Further, we extend our method to achieve resilience in the scenarios where there are noisy nodes, dynamic networks and stochastic node selection. Finally, we illustrate our algorithm with several examples, and we delineate some attacking scenarios that can be dealt by the current proposal but not by the state-of-the-art approaches. A semi-lagrangian approach for the minimal exposure path problem in wireless sensor networks

A critical metric of the coverage quality in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is the Minimal Exposure Path (MEP), a path through the environment that least exposes an intruder to the sensor detecting nodes. Many approaches have been proposed in the last decades to solve this optimization problem, ranging from classic (grid-based and Voronoi-based) planners to genetic meta-heuristics. However, most of them are limited to specific sensing models and obstacle-free spaces. Still, none of them guarantee an optimal solution, and the state-of-the-art is expensive in terms of run-time. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel method that models the MEP as an Optimal Control problem and solves it by using a Semi-Lagrangian approach. This framework is shown to converge to the optimal MEP while also incorporates different homogeneous and heterogeneous sensor models and geometric constraints (obstacles). Experiments show that our method dominates the state-of-the-art, improving the results by approximately 10% with a relatively lower execution time. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. The paper describes the system presented by the University of L'Aquila in collaboration with the University of Havana - team named UNIVAQ - to the TREC 2019 Precision Medicine Track. The proposed solution, maps any kind of documents - Scientific Abstract, Clinical trials, and Topics - into a multi-dimensional common general representation. Each document is described by five primitive features. The values of each feature are extracted from the original documents using deep learning and machine learning text processing based techniques. To recognize Genes and Diseases, we have trained our models using the PubTator annotated corpus. Instead, to derive demographics information, we have trained the employed deep learning models using the documents -obtained from the Relevance and Raw judgements of the past edition of TREC Precision Medicine/Clinical Decision Support Track 2018- considered "relevant" or "partially relevant". The results of the Track clearly show that applying a system (as our) made solely by a tagging based approach to the Precision Medicine task, is not sufficient to achieve the performances gained by other systems presented in the TREC Precision Medicine Track 2019. © 2019 28th Text REtrieval Conference, TREC 2019 - Proceedings. New paths to increase the sensing performance of plasmonic sensors have been reported in recent years. There are several methodologies to achieve such purpose, namely by optimizing the nanostructure, nanomaterial and even the sensing platform. Recently the use nanoparticles over plasmonic thin films have been reported and shown sensitivity enhancement, when compared to a bare thin film. Nevertheless, a nanomaterial combination between NP and thin film has not been studied. In this work it was studied such plasmonic materials in order to optimize not only refractometric sensitivity but also decrease the resultant plasmonic band width. It was found that for Au, Ag and Cu thin films, the dep.sition of plasmonic nanoparticles resulted in an overall refractometric sensitivity and figure of merit (FOM) increase. The larger FOM increase was obtained for the Ag thin film, from 42 to 162 when coupled to Si nanoparticles. The greater sensitivity increase was achieved for a Cu thin film coupled to a Si nanoparticle, with an increase from 1745 to 3230 nm/RIU. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) is increasingly being used in many engineering disciplines. This paper presents the practical use of an e-learning tool for project-based learning in higher education in the context of a student-centered, industrial-sized project. The benefits and challenges of VR technology in education are examined. The paper briefly outlines the advantages of VR in its practical application in education as well as in the professional industry. In conclusion the paper argues that VR applications can be useful in improving effectiveness and efficiency in existent processes. Advancements in the use of genome-wide markers have provided unprecedented opportunities for dissecting the genetic components that control phenotypic trait variation. However, cost-effectively characterizing agronomically important phenotypic traits on a large scale remains a bottleneck. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based high-throughput phenotyping has recently become a prominent method, as it allows large numbers of plants to be analyzed in a time-series manner. In this experiment, 233 inbred lines from the maize (Zea mays L.) diversity panel were grown in the field under different nitrogen treatments. Unmanned aerial vehicle images were collected during different plant developmental stages throughout the growing season. A workflow for extracting plot-level images, filtering images to remove nonfoliage elements, and calculating canopy coverage and greenness ratings based on vegetation indices (VIs) was developed. After applying the workflow, about 100,000 plot-level image clips were obtained for 12 different time points. High correlations were detected between VIs and ground truth physiological and yield-related traits. The genome-wide association study was performed, resulting in n = 29 unique genomic regions associated with image extracted traits from two or more of the 12 total time points. A candidate gene Zm00001d031997, a maize homolog of the Arabidopsis HCF244 (high chlorophyll fluorescence 244), located underneath the leading single nucleotide polymorphisms of the canopy coverage associated signals were repeatedly detected under both nitrogen conditions. The plot-level time-series phenotypic data and the trait-associated genes provide great opportunities to advance plant science and to facilitate plant breeding. © 2022 The Authors. The living environment monitoring is a critical issue today. Many related researches focused on developing the living environment monitoring systems by using the web-based technology, but such information systems would increase the difficulty of promotion and migration to others, because of needing well-trained engineers to achieve and maintain such information system. This research focuses on developing the weather monitoring system. The main goal of the research is to use the technology of message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) as roles of the communication layer instead of direct-connecting database, which can isolate the system migration complexity from heterogeneous relational database management system (RDBMS) and construct a distributed information system easily. Finally the contributions are demonstrated as implementation of the IoT-based weather monitoring system. The prototyping of the weather monitoring system is implemented and dep.oyed at Wu-Tso elementary school for the students' learning of nature science and activity environment. In addition, the system is implemented using open sources and is easy to be dep.oyed and scalable. © 2019 IEEE.

High-throughput genotyping coupled with molecular breeding approaches have dramatically accelerated crop improvement programs. More recently, improved plant phenotyping methods have led to a shift from manual measurements to automated platforms with increased scalability and resolution. Considerable effort has also gone into developing large-scale downstream processing of the imaging datasets derived from high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) platforms. However, most available tools require some programming skills. We developed PhenoImage, an open-source graphical user interface (GUI) based cross-platform solution for HTP image processing intending to make image analysis accessible to users with either little or no programming skills. The open-source nature provides the possibility to extend its usability to meet user-specific requirements. The availability of multiple functions and filtering parameters provides flexibility to analyze images from a wide variety of plant species and platforms. PhenoImage can be run on a personal computer as well as on high-performance computing clusters. To test the efficacy of the application, we analyzed the LemnaTec Imaging system derived red, green, and blue (RGB) color intensity and plant pigmentation-based fluorescence shoot images from two plant species: sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) differing in their physical attributes. In the study, we discuss the development, implementation, and working of the PhenoImage. © 2021 The Authors. Our ability to extract knowledge from evolving spatial phenomena and make it actionable is often impaired by unreliable, erroneous, obsolete, imprecise, sparse, and noisy data. Integrating the impact of this uncertainty is a paramount when estimating the reliability/confidence of any time-varying query result from the underlying input data. The goal of this advanced seminar is to survey solutions for managing, querying and mining uncertain spatial and spatio-temporal data. We survey different models and show examples of how to efficiently enrich query results with reliability information. We discuss both analytical solutions as well as approximate solutions based on geosimulation.

The use of a ternary hybrid nanofluid, a new form of nanofluid, can improve heat movement. The current research employs a two-dimensional steady model to investigate nonlinear thermal radiation via ternary hybrid nanofluid flow across a revolving disc. The study of manganese zinc ferrite, copper, and silver nanocomposite base hybrid nanofluid across a spinning disc is gaining traction in invention and research due to its broad range of applications. To derive dimensionless forms of regulating paired nonlinear partial differential equations, a collection of pertinent similarity transformations is used. Based on the shooting method, the modified collection of ODEs is then analytically solved by bvp4c via the computational tool MATLAB. Furthermore, as the magnetic parameter values are reduced, the fluid velocity declines while the fluid temperature grows over a spinning disc. For larger levels, the temperature of the distribution and the radiant heat component rises. The ternary composite nanofluid has the largest impact on the surface. Furthermore, compared to the hybrid and based nanofluids, the heat generation rate of the ternary nanofluid combination is the higher transmission. The significance of Ag nanoparticles in the food industry is because of their anti-bacterial and anti-fungicidal properties, silver (Ag) is widely used in everyday products such as fabrics, pastes, polymers, food, and detergents. Manganese zinc ferrites (MnZnFe2O4) have recently piqued the interest of material science researchers due to their broad variety of applications. They are extensively used in energy storage devices, catalysts, adsorbents, sensing and imaging, therapeutic action, and other applications. © 2023 The Author(s)
