Recent trends in mobile cellular networks turn towards dep.oyment of Small Cell Networks (SCNs), where the cell size gets smaller and thus the number of subscribers served in a cell will be relatively smaller and should be considered finite. However, almost works on cellular mobile networks consider an infinite population cell, resulting commonly in infinite queueing models, for which no analytical solution is available for performance measures and only numerical approximations can be obtained. In this paper, a Call Admission Control (CAC) in a finite population micro-cell operating in a SCN, with retrials of blocked new calls, impatience of subscribers and multiple guard channels dedicated to handoff calls, is proposed. For the numerical computation of the steady-state probabilities of the corresponding continuous time Markov chain (CTMC), an efficient algorithm giving automatically the infinitesimal generator is developed, and various performance measures are established in network parameters and stationary probabilities. The guard channels number and retrials effect on the network performance in terms of blocking probability (for new calls and retrials) and dropping probability (of handoffs) is also carried out via experimental results.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of different burnishing strategy on a C45 steel machining. Burnishing is a well-known, cold working surface improving technology, it is usually applied for cylindrical workpiece. In the reported research a novel developed magnetic assisted ball burnishing (MABB) tool was applied which was designed for MABB machining of flat and harmonic surfaces. To increase its efficiency, different types of machining strategies were applied. After the burnishing process the machined surfaces were measured by surface roughness tester to determine the most important Rsk and Rku tribological parameters. According to the results it can be stated that all different burnishing strategies have special application areas where they can be used efficiently (e.g. sliding surface, moulding tool and after- or pre-machining for ultra-precision machining).

This work develops a CMOS active delay line for microwave CW signals. The novel active delay line is mainly based on an injection-locking (IL) technique. The delay of the input signal is linear adjusted with various injection conditions. Comparing with conventional passive or active delay lines, the proposed active delay line has a wider delay tuning range and a higher gain. The implemented CMOS delay line achieves a wide operating range of 2 ~ 2.6 GHz with very wide delay tuning range from 45~220 ns. The power consumption is lower than 7.2 mW.

Rotational speed measurement is a key issue in most industries, either for process control, characterization or fault diagnosis. In electric motor driven systems it can be used, for example, to estimate the motor load or pulley-belt transmission slip. Encoders and resolvers are typically used for continuous speed monitoring, requiring mechanical coupling with the rotating shaft/part. If the speed is to be measured at a given instant or during a few moments, noninvasive contactless optical tachometers can be used, using optical reflection or stroboscopic principles. In most cases, stroboscopic tachometers require no reflective elements/strips in the rotating part. However, if the user wants to continuously measure the speed of a given rotating part during the audit/characterization period, with real-time data logging and without sticking reflective strips or introducing shaft-coupled encoders/resolvers, there is no low-cost commercial solution to perform such task. For example, if the user's aim is to continuously estimate the load variation of an induction motor over a day or week, on the basis of the slip/speed value, it is not possible with conventional commercial low-cost contactless equipment, unless the user uses expensive online-operation equipment estimating the speed by means of input voltage/current. Moreover, in some rotating systems/parts not directly driven by an electric motor, the online equipment cannot be used and it is not practical, and in some cases even impossible, to couple an encoder/resolver or stick some reflective strips. In this paper, an innovative nonintrusive low-cost webcam-based tachometer is proposed, developed and experimentally tested. It can be used to easily estimate and record the speed over time in, for example, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts and wind turbines.

In this paper an improved design of an RFID powered swallowable barometric endoradiosonde (ERS) is presented. The ERS consists of a micro fabricated capacitive sensor printed in gold on Polycaprolactone (PCL) on which a transponder chip design in 0.35μm AMS technology is in-plane bounded to the PCL substrate. The implantable or inside the body, transponder (tag) is powered by the external reader at 900MHz through inductively coupled antennas. The tag performs the capacitance to frequency conversion and transmits data back to the reader using load-shift keying (LSK) modulation. The ERS can measure the sensor output frequency with an INL error of 0.4%, sensitivity (Δf/ΔP) of -6.12MHz/kPa, occupies a volume of 1mm3 (transponder only), consumes, 400μW and 360μW for, respectively, dynamic and static power. The sensor has an accuracy of ± 0.1kPa, works in the pressure range of 0-1.99kPa (0-15mmHg). The readout circuit has a ±1.84kHz resolution.

The main result presented in this paper (whose proof can be found in [1]) is that the fraction of agents (Y̅ N k (t)) at state k ∈ X := {1, ..., K} associated with an interacting particle system over an appropriate dynamical communication network converges weakly to the solution of a differential equation. The vector macroprocess (Y̅ N (t)) = (Y̅ N 1 (t),..., Y̅ N k (t)) is not Markov since its evolution dep.nds not only on its current state, but on finer real-time microscopic high-dimensional information of the system - namely, the state of the N nodes X N (t) ∈ X N . Categorization is one of the most active research and application areas of Data Mining. In this paper, we address the problem of pattern categorization in mobile robotic computing. It is the task of automatically sorting a set of patterns into categories from a predefined set. Most categorization algorithms are sensitive to noise, architecture configuration, Bellman's curse of dimensionality, instability, and complex shapes. Hence, in the present study, a novel numerical scheme (RC) for pattern categorization which provides a good generalization ability with a small empirical error, is described. The experimental study with E-nose of six different MOX gas sensors is presented. Our evaluation method demonstrates the effectiveness and multidisciplinary applications of our approach.
