Requirements engineering was initially regarded as a front-end activity to form a basis for the coming activities of software development, which can be achieved by gathering and producing unambiguous and consistent requirements. However, in recent years, requirements engineering has been recognized as a creative process. A systematic literature review followed by an online questionnaire with practitioners were employed to identify a comprehensive overview of existing empirical evidence using creativity techniques in the requirements engineering process. The results show a limited range of applied creativity techniques with insufficient empirical evidence to adequately evaluate if the techniques create more creative requirements. The contribution of this study is threefold: First, it compares which creativity techniques have been empirically evaluated in literature. Second, it compares the identified creativity techniques. Third, it includes an examination of which creativity techniques are used in industry.

This paper presents the ac small signal modeling and analysis of trans Z-Source inverter (trans ZSI). Trans ZSI has been derived from quasi Z-source converter recently. While maintaining all prominent features of pervious Z-source inverters, trans ZSI has several unique advantages such as increased voltage gain, reduced voltage stress and reduced components of impedance network. In the process of designing control schemes for the trans ZSI, knowledge of the transfer function representing its unique dc impedance network is essential. In particular, the state space averaging method is employed to deduce the transfer functions. These transfer functions reveal the presence of right half plane (RHP) zero, which imposes some limitations on controller design. The RHP zero trajectories with variations in network parameters can be studied using classical root-locus analyses. Considering system dynamic characteristics, the trans ZSI design guidelines for passive component sizing is investigated by parameter sweeping of the small signal model based transfer functions. Simulation results are presented to verify the dynamic modeling identified in this paper.

Hough Transform has been successfully applied to a variety of image processing problems in recent years. This papers presents a novel approach for detecting and classifying 3D objects by using the generalized Hough method and the Kinect TM sensor. Our algorithm considers feature points and color spectra as two interleaved processes to cooperatively recognize objects in a 2.5D fashion. With this strategy, the algorithm automates the image pre-processing operations regardless of scenes (i.e., particle cleaning, hole filling, particle eroding, and object dilating) and reduces the processing load over the sensor's point cloud for 3D object classification. Extensive experiments applied - but not limited - to recognition between different and similar objects, occlusion, and perspective change analyzing fitness and processing time show that the 2.5D approach makes feasible 3D object recognition for applications with video information.

Nowadays mobile phone data are an actual proxy for studying the users' social life and urban dynamics. In this paper we present the Sociometer, and analytical framework aimed at classifying mobile phone users into behavioral categories by means of their call habits. The analytical process starts from spatio-temporal profiles, learns the different behaviors, and returns annotated profiles. After the description of the methodology and its evaluation, we present an application of the Sociometer for studying city users of one small and one big city, evaluating the impact of big events in these cities.

Due to technology scaling, the number of processor cores on a chip constantly increases. Already today, we reach the domain of so called many-core systems-on-chip. However, this advance comes at the cost of reliability, which especially affects the communication performance of the underlying network-on-chip. Today's resiliency concepts for network-on-chip like automatic repeat request with retransmission are not feasible anymore and lead to long latencies and high network load. In this paper, we propose an on-chip transmission concept based on random linear network coding to provide high resiliency and an efficient communication in many-core processors at the same time. The concept offers a flexible and efficient computable coding scheme, which is well suited for on-chip communication and allows to exploit the path diversity of large networks. First, we use a flit-level cycle-accurate simulation model to investigate the performance potential of the proposed transmission scheme on a network-on-chip with 64 cores. Second, we propose an analytic model for random linear network coding in network-on-chip with retransmission, which is able to provide a very accurate performance estimation close to the cycle-accurate simulation. Finally, we apply the analytic model to investigate the performance potential on the large-scale, assuming a processor with 1024 cores.

We propose a Heterogeneous Multi Domain (HMD) architecture and protocols that uses ad hoc and cellular communications for enabling the exchange of information among users and smart environments. In particular, we focuss on the data communication and information diffusion related to tourism industry. Sensor's technology enables today the collection of various data related to the environment, such as temperature, location, and so on. This information can be delivered timely to users interacting with the environment. For example, a user might get direction in a building or in a park. Our architecture uses a network of gateways as an hierarchical virtual infrastructure to interconnect various network domains. Gateways are responsible for translation among different communication protocols, including routing, signalling, and security. HMD architecture is scalable, flexible and adaptive to QoS needs for interdomain communications. The protocol goal is to optimize such communications in terms of performance.

Protecting the environment from many threats has become a priority worldwide. The existing sensor technology enables the continuous monitoring of various parameters related to environment status, such as air quality and many others. In this paper we propose a secure architecture based on cellular networks to collect such sensors' information in real time. The cell phones can interact with the cellular network and the sensor networks at the same time. This unique ability can be leveraged to provide better authentication and security. We propose an architecture for these networks along with protocols that can be used to establish security. In our architecture, we use gateways, as intermediate nodes that are able to interact with both the cell phones and the sensor nodes.

This paper presents a new 3D video database (STESCAL3D -Stereoscopic Scalable 3D), made up of 3D stereo video sequences affected by different types of degradations. A set of subjective quality grades have been collected in three geographically displaced sites. The database contents have been produced using scalable video coding to encode 3D stereo video clips with distinct encoding parameters, after which different transmission degradations have been applied to the encoded video streams. These sequences have been subjectively evaluated by observers from three countries, Croatia, Portugal and Greece, using a purpose-built web-based platform. The subjective quality data compiled were processed, analyzed and compared to quality estimates obtained using several well-known objective measures. It is shown that the correlation between objective quality estimates and the subjective quality grades is in general low. Additionally the results show that stereo-view asymmetries in terms of encoding parameters and packet loss ratio (PLR) leads to low quality of experience. The video database and the subjective grades collection are publicly available with the referral link provided in the text.
