The attention given recently for Hyperspectral Images (HSI) in remote sensing was due to its spectral nature used in earth surface exploration. Recently, researches proposed approaches that combine features of spatial nature with spectral nature to enhance HSI analysis accuracy. The reason behind this orientation is that contiguous pixels mostly share spectral features due to the low spatial resolution. In this paper, authors follow this orientation in clustering HSI using K-means. The proposed approach uses kernels, group of spatially neighbored pixels, to build profile for each cluster. The profile preserves cluster's spectral nature through its bands' Box-Plots that were extracted from selected kernels. The approach starts by selecting K kernels from the given image scene randomly instead of generating random kernels. Then a profile for each cluster is built using the selected kernel pixels' spectrums. The profile consists of b box-plots, where b is the number of bands. Each band box-plot interprets the spread of contiguous pixels' reflectance values in that band. Each pixel in the image will join the nearest cluster. The distance to be measured between any given pixel spectrum and cluster's centroid is replaced by counting how many reflectance values have been considered outlier to their corresponding band's box-plot in that cluster profile. The pixel will join the cluster with minimum outlier count. The profiles are updated iteratively using the new pixels distribution. Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is necessary to explore the factors leading to heavy drought and rainy-flood disaster in some districts of Sichuan province. A method based RS, GIS, GPS and Google earth (GE) is presented to establish LUCC database in Sichuan province and Chengdu district. At first, LUCC is interpreted based on the new temporal images and the land use and land cover database from TM in ***, some ground objects, which could not be identified in the new temporal images, were interpreted utilizing GE with some higher spatial resolution images. Thirdly, the new interpreted LUCC was validated in the field with GPS handheld receiver. Then, LUCC of Sichuan province was updated. A comparative analysis of LUCC between in Sichuan province and in Chengdu district was conducted and the result showed: (1) a large amount of farmland in Sichuan Province was occupied from 2000 to 2005 and the area is 84 573 ha. While construction land gained obviously and the area was 35 828 ha. The dynamic degree of construction land was 111.10 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005. The LUCC demonstrated that the economy of Sichuan province continued to develop, the cities were overspreading and the urban heat island effect was deteriorated from 2000 to 2005. (2) A large amount of farmland was also occupied in Chengdu district from 2000 to 2005, the area amounted to 12 989 ha. The farmland lost was mainly changed to construction land, amounting to 93%. And the dynamic degree was 117.41 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005, which was bigger than that in Sichuan province.

Falls in older adults are not only frequent but also potentially disabling for them. Detecting and preventing these falls have an important impact in the life of the elderly people. This paper presents the architecture of a pervasive system designed to perform early detection of older adults in risk of falling or fell down. The system notifies the appropriate people or healthcare organizations in case of detecting a fall of the monitored person. This monitoring process produces minimum disruption in the life style of the elderly. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

In this work, we propose an energy-efficient HTTP adaptive streaming for high-quality video over heterogeneous networks (HetNets). To support high-quality video and overcome the limitations of a single network, the proposed system downloads the video segments by concurrently using the HetNets. In the proposed system, the segment bitrate, number of requested segments, network sleep time, and size of requested data through each wireless network are determined adaptively to provide seamless high-quality video streaming in an energy and cost efficient way. The proposed system is fully implemented in an Android-based mobile device and tested in an actual wireless network environments.

In this paper we present the Yale-CMU-Berkeley (YCB) Object and Model set, intended to be used for benchmarking in robotic grasping and manipulation research. The objects in the set are designed to cover various aspects of the manipulation problem; it includes objects of daily life with different shapes, sizes, textures, weight and rigidity, as well as some widely used manipulation tests. The associated database provides high-resolution RGBD scans, physical properties and geometric models of the objects for easy incorporation into manipulation and planning software platforms. A comprehensive literature survey on existing benchmarks and object datasets is also presented and their scope and limitations are discussed. The set will be freely distributed to research groups worldwide at a series of tutorials at robotics conferences, and will be otherwise available at a reasonable purchase cost.

Context modeling is key in wavelet-based image coding schemes to achieve competitive coding performance. Commonly, context models are devised for a particular coding system and are employed for many different types of images. The aim of this work is to evaluate the suitability of three well-known context models for coding hyperspectral images, without focusing on a particular wavelet-based coding system. To do so, an entropy-based measure defined using the mechanisms utilized by modern image codecs is employed. The experimental results assess the appropriateness of the context models considering different coding rates and transform strategies. They reveal that some widely-used context models may not be as adequate as it is generally thought. The hints provided by this analysis may help to design simpler and more efficient wavelet-based codecs for hyperspectral images. © 2014 IEEE.

Performance antipatterns document bad design patterns that have negative influence on system performance. In our previous work we formalized such antipatterns as logical predicates that build on four different views: (i) the static view that captures the software elements (e.g. classes, components) and the static relationships among them;(ii) the dynamic view that represents the interaction (e.g. messages) that occurs between the software elements to provide system functionalities;(iii) the dep.oyment view that describes the hardware elements (e.g. processing nodes) and the mapping of software resources onto hardware platforms;(iv) the performance view that collects a set of specific performance indices. In this paper we present a lightweight infrastructure that enables the detection of software performance antipatterns at runtime through the monitoring of specific performance indices. The proposed approach precalculates the logical predicates of antipatterns and identifies the ones whose static, dynamic and dep.oyment sub-predicates occur in the current system configuration and brings at runtime the verification of performance sub-predicates. The proposed infrastructure leverages model-driven techniques to generate probes for monitoring the performance sub-predicates thus to support the detection of antipatterns at runtime. © A. Thank to the widespread diffusion of RGBD sensing devices based on active technologies, in recent years, many research and industrial applications have taken advantage of reliable cues computed from dense dep.h data. However, although these sensors can be very effective in many circumstances, they are not always well suited for outdoor environments and can also interfere with each other when sensing the same area. On the other hand, traditional systems based on passive stereo vision technology, due to their computational/energy requirements, reliability, size, cost etc, have been, so far, mostly confined to research projects. Nevertheless, recent advances in computation architectures and algorithms enable to overcome most of these issues and, in this paper, we describe the architecture and the processing pipeline of an effective RGBD sensor based on stereo vision suited for real time applications. This sensor allows us to infer, in indoor and outdoor environments, dense and accurate dep.h maps computed according to state-of-art algorithms and with minimal energy requirements that fit with typical constraints of smart camera systems.

This study addresses electrocardiogram (ECG) pulses removal from surface electromyography (sEMG) recordings. We describe a block singular spectrum analysis based adaptive noise canceler (BSSA-ANC) in order to enhance the filtering performance of sEMG signals. The proposed method distinguishes itself by adapting the eigenvalues of every input block data, using an adaptive noise canceling (ANC) filter based on error gradient minimization, during the grouping stage of the well-known SSA technique. Using semi-artificially prepared signals, we demonstrate that the least mean square (LMS) when combined with the proposed technique provides higher filtering performances than with standard mean. The simulation results using real world data confirm the improved noise rejection obtained with the proposed method. © 2014 IEEE.

This work describes a hybrid adaptive filtering technique, designed to optimize the removal of the electrocardiogram (ECG) from surface electromyography (sEMG) recordings. Using the adaptive noise cancellation technique (ANC), we minimize the error gradient based on combined Time-Frequency filtering enhancements. The validation on artificially prepared signals with a real data basis shows better frequency and time filtering performances in comparison to simulations with standard implementations. © 2014 IEEE.
