Efficient forest management requires resource information at fine scale. Satellite sensed imagery is one of potential tools for collecting forest resource. In this paper, we developed an automated delineation of tree crown based on a series of image processing procedures and spectral angle using multi-spectral information. Above all, the proposed schemes can be applied to an open forest with complicated scenes. Experimental results reveal that the proposed methods can effectively identify and isolate the tree crown compared to traditional approach, and manual delineation. It also provides detailed forest resource information, and can be used as a reliable management tool for forest resources.

Evaluation of non-functional properties of a design (such as performance, dep.ndability, security, etc.) can be enabled by design annotations specific to the property to be evaluated. Performance properties, for instance, can be annotated on UML designs by using the "UML Profile for Schedulability, Performance and Time (SPT)". However the communication between the design description in UML and the tools used for non-functional properties evaluation requires support, particularly for performance where there are many alternative performance analysis tools that might be applied. This paper describes a tool architecture called PUMA, which provides a unified interface between different kinds of design information and different kinds of performance models, for example Markov models, stochastic Petri nets and process algebras, queues and layered queues. The paper concentrates on the creation of performance models. The unified interface of PUMA is centered on an intermediate model called Core Scenario Model (CSM), which is extracted from the annotated design model. Experience shows that CSM is also necessary for cleaning and auditing the design information, and providing default interpretations in case it is incomplete, before creating a performance model. Segmentation and visualization of femur and tumor on the femur are important tasks for surgeon in operation planning and disease treatment. Because MR slices can provide rich information about the disease, it is often used as a planning tool for diagnosis or surgeon operation. In this study, a series of segmentation techniques such as thresholding, mathematical morphology, and active contour model were proposed to detect tumors of femur, and extract its geometric shape. Then, an interpolation scheme based on morphological morphing was performed on the original slices to produce accurate and smooth intermediate slices and volumetric data between neighboring slices. Finally, the tumor on the femur was visualized using surface rendering based on Marching Cubes and Phong shading model under an interactive environment. Besides transparent volume rendering based on ray-casting was used to delineate the relative structure between the detected femur and the detected tumor. The proposed system provides various qualitative information including tumor location and shape for rthopedist for their treatment strategies.
