We present an intuitive and simple O(log2 n log φ) time, O(n2M(n)) processer parallel algorithm for finding a perfect matching in a planar graph, where n is the order, π is the number of the distinct perfect matchings of the graph and M(n) is the best sequential complexity of matrix multiplication of size n. The algorithm runs on a CRCW PRAM. Clearly, our algorithm belongs to the class NC if the number of perfect matchings is polynomially bounded in the size of the input graph.

In this work we have studied and characterized the impact-ionization-induced instabilities in the output characteristics of two-dimensional MESFET s. The instabilities appear as an increase of the output conductance, CD. By performing a complete set of DC measurements at different temperature and electroluminescence measurements, in different bias conditions, we were able to correlate the kinks in the output characteristics with different impact ionization regimes, including the possible onset of a parasitic bipolar effect.

Scheduling of tasks onto multi-processors is an increasingly important problem in the simulation of avionics systems. The problem is difficult due to the many hard real-time constraints imposed on the schedule in the form of processor frame-time limits and latency requirements. In this paper, we present a solution to this real-time scheduling problem using simulated annealing techniques. The running time of the algorithm is fast enough for it to be applied in the rapid reconfiguration of simulation test benches in use at Boeing Flight systems Laboratory. Its efficacy is demonstrated using an example with 60 tasks communicating through 1800 common blocks and scheduled onto 6 processors under 4 latency constraints which achieved a utilization factor over 95%. Such an example can be scheduled in approximately 35 minutes of CPU time on an HP-Apollo 425 workstation.< >

We report the results of a photoreflectance (PR) study of InGaAs/GaAs strained-layer quantum wells and superlattices (SLSs) grown by MBE on [111]B GaAs substrates. Under our measurement conditions, the PR spectra display features we can relate to the bandgaps of both materials and to optical transitions in the quantum structures. Using the photovoltaic effect to vary the surface electric field of our i-n+ and p+-i-n+ samples in a strictly contactless manner, we find optical transitions red-shifting with increasing intensity of illumination from a CW HeNe laser in [11 l]-grown structures, a well known effect which can be attributed to the strain-generated electric field (SGEF) present in these structures. We also find experimental support for the predicted effectiveness of free-carriers in screening the SGEF and thereby originating highly non-linear absorption.
