Indoor positioning often requires detecting and recognizing ad-hoc landmarks or anchor points with known coordinates and/or a given orientation within a given reference frame. Typically, the available kind of sensors and their detection area determine the landmark features and position. Of course, an excessive use of landmarks pose serious scalability and cost issues, whereas, on the other hand, a too-low amount of dep.oyed landmarks may create areas where agent's position is hard to track or localization accuracy drops. In addition, often sensors are not omni-directional. In this paper, the optimal placement problem of landmarks detected by sensors with a limited detection area is addressed in the general case of wide-open, ideally unbounded, rooms. First, landmarks placement optimization is performed numerically. Then, a closed-form expression of the optimal distance between landmarks on a regular pattern is determined as a function of both the reading range and the directional properties of the sensor considered. Finally, the performances of the chosen placement strategy in more realistic indoor environments (i.e. consisting of multiple rooms with obstacles therein) are evaluated through simulations assuming, without loss of generality, that a wheeled robot equipped with a front camera adjusts its own position by detecting suitable visual landmarks.

The coding and transmission of the massive datasets captured by Earth Observation (EO) satellites is a critical issue in current missions. The conventional approach is to use compression on board the satellite to reduce the size of the captured images. This strategy exploits spatial and/or spectral redundancy to achieve compression. Another type of redundancy found in such data is the temporal redundancy between images of the same area that are captured at different instants of time. This type of redundancy is commonly not exploited because the required data and computing power are not available on board the satellite. This paper introduces a coding scheme for EO satellites able to exploit this redundancy. Contrary to traditional approaches, the proposed scheme employs both the downlink and the uplink of the satellite. Its main insight is to compute and code the temporal redundancy on the ground and transmit it to the satellite via the uplink. The satellite then uses this information to compress more efficiently the captured image. Experimental results for Landsat 8 images indicate that the proposed dual link image coding scheme can achieve higher coding performance than traditional systems for both lossless and lossy regimes.

Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA), with 24 to 33 nt, is the largest category of small non-coding RNA (ncRNA) molecules expressed in animal cells. piRNA complexes have been revealed to both epigenetic and post-transcriptional regulation in germ line and somatic tissues. Generally, they are distinct from microRNA (miRNA) in size and lack of sequence conservation. In this study, class frequency distribution identified the consensus patterns of piRNA across 9 species. To analyze the mechanism of these consensus patters, 4 target prediction tools were integrated. Furthermore, the GO-Term and pathway enrichment were approached for the functional annotation of these targets. The results indicated that two maximal conserved patterns of piRNA were identified in 8 species, whereas maximal consensus pattern in all of 9 species was TAGCTCAGTCGGTAGAGCA seemed to regulate many human genes which involved in binding and activity molecular function. Additionally, these target genes are associated with a number of rare diseases. We believe that this study will contribute to a better understanding of the functionality of piRNA cross species conserved sequences.

Regression Wavelet Analysis (RWA) is a novel wavelet-based scheme for coding hyperspectral images that employs multiple regression analysis to exploit the relationships among spectral wavelet-transformed components. The scheme is based on a pyramidal prediction, using different regression models, to increase the statistical indep.ndence in the wavelet domain. For lossless coding, RWA has proven to be superior to other spectral transform like PCA and to the best and most recent coding standard in remote sensing, CCSDS-123.0. In this paper we show that RWA also allows progressive lossy-to-lossless (PLL) coding and that it attains a rate-distortion performance superior to those obtained with state-of-the-art schemes. To take into account the predictive significance of the spectral components, we propose a Prediction Weighting scheme for JPEG2000 that captures the contribution of each transformed component to the prediction process.

In this White Paper we present the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry(eXTP) mission for studies related to Observatory science targets. These include flaring stars, supernova remnants, accreting white dwarfs, low and high mass X-ray binaries, radio quiet and radio loud active galactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and gamma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellently suited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. Developed by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.

Categorization is one of the most active research and application areas of Data Mining. In this paper, we address the problem of pattern categorization in mobile robotic computing. It is the task of automatically sorting a set of patterns into categories from a predefined set. Most categorization algorithms are sensitive to noise, architecture configuration, Bellman's curse of dimensionality, instability, and complex shapes. Hence, in the present study, a novel numerical scheme (RC) for pattern categorization which provides a good generalization ability with a small empirical error, is described. The experimental study with E-nose of six different MOX gas sensors is presented. Our evaluation method demonstrates the effectiveness and multidisciplinary applications of our approach.

Due to increasing number of internet users, popularity of Broadband Internet also increasing. Hence the connection cost should be decrease due to Wi Fi connectivity and built-in sensors in devices as well the maximum number of devices should be connected through a common medium. To meet all these requirements, the technology so called Internet of Things is evolved. Internet of Things (IoT) can be considered as a connection of computing devices like smart phones, coffee maker, washing machines, wearable device with an internet. IoT create network and connect "things" and people together by creating relationship between either people-people, people-things or things-things. As the number of device connection is increased, it increases the Security risk. Security is the biggest issue for IoT at any companies across the globe. Furthermore, privacy and data sharing can again be considered as a security concern for IoT. Companies, those who use IoT technique, need to find a way to store, track, analyze and make sense of the large amounts of data that will be generated. Few security techniques of IoT are necessary to implement to protect your confidential and important data as well for device protection through some internet security threats.

Grading of breast carcinoma plays an important role for identification of severity of the disease and prognostic treatment in histopathology. It also is one of important indicators of carcinoma patterns. In general, it dep.nds on three indices: tubule formation, nuclear plemorphism, and mitotic counts by scoring based on the degrees of cell differentiation or proliferation. However, scoring on these indices often subjects to intra-and inter-observer variability due to its complexities and manual classifications by pathologists. This study aims to accurately determine the scoring of tubule formation for histological grading using a series of image processing and a classifier consisting of support vector machine with Gaussian kernel function. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, a number of H&E stained images acquired from biopsy tissues of patients were tested with the proposed system for the scoring. Experimental result reveals that the proposed algorithms can obtain satisfactory scoring compared to other reported works. Therefore, it can provide reliable scores in the tubule formation and grade of breast carcinoma especially for ductal carcinoma.

Then, we derive a message passing algorithm for decoding LDPC codes over the generalized channels. Furthermore, we investigate the Hamming distance distributions of LDPC codes in terms of D symbol-tuple metric.

The increase in Internet-connected physical devices offers new possibilities and opportunities. This Internet of Things (IoT) fosters the development of new platforms, services and applications that connect the physical world (represented by physical objects) to the virtual world (represented by the Internet). The work presented here proposes a study of role and attribute-based access control models that tackle the security concerns of our already developed data sharing framework. The framework introduced a formal theoretical model, the IOTCollab domain specific language, and an integrated development environment that implements this model. We have extended this framework by completing the formal theoretical model with access control capabilities.
