Due to technology scaling, the number of processor cores on a chip constantly increases. Already today, we reach the domain of so called many-core systems-on-chip. However, this advance comes at the cost of reliability, which especially affects the communication performance of the underlying network-on-chip. Today's resiliency concepts for network-on-chip like automatic repeat request with retransmission are not feasible anymore and lead to long latencies and high network load. In this paper, we propose an on-chip transmission concept based on random linear network coding to provide high resiliency and an efficient communication in many-core processors at the same time. The concept offers a flexible and efficient computable coding scheme, which is well suited for on-chip communication and allows to exploit the path diversity of large networks. First, we use a flit-level cycle-accurate simulation model to investigate the performance potential of the proposed transmission scheme on a network-on-chip with 64 cores. Second, we propose an analytic model for random linear network coding in network-on-chip with retransmission, which is able to provide a very accurate performance estimation close to the cycle-accurate simulation. Finally, we apply the analytic model to investigate the performance potential on the large-scale, assuming a processor with 1024 cores.

Surface clutter can corrupt both Earth and planetary Radar Sounder (RS) observations preventing definitive interpretation of subsurface features, which are often the primary interest of geologists and planetary scientists. Clutter is usually detected by manual or automatic techniques that require ancillary information about the topography of the surface. However, this topography information is not always available. In this paper, we propose a novel method for clutter detection that is indep.ndent from ancillary information. This method uses a two channel RS system to exploit the cross-channel interferometric phase difference and is made up three main steps: i) feature extraction and theoretical phase difference estimation, ii) RS interferogram formation and iii) comparison of theoretical and real phase difference distributions. The proposed method has been validated on RS data acquired in Greenland.

In this paper, a relay-based energy-efficient cooperative communication strategy is proposed, under the hypothesis that the relay transmits with power drawn from energy-harvesting (EH) sources. Assuming a deterministic EH model under which the harvested amount of energy is known prior to transmission, a spectrally efficient adaptive Bit-Interleaved Coded (BIC) OFDM modulation scheme has been investigated. To guarantee the successful reception of a packet, Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocol has been adopted. Assuming a long term static channel, the expected goodput (EGP) metric is used as cost function to be optimized. The most significant step-ahead of the proposed approach with respect to state-of-the-art is to increase the cooperation gain by using a bargaining game algorithm. Since most renewable sources are highly intermittent, they can induce significant fluctuation on the available power. The bargaining game algorithm takes into account the energy status of the relay and helps the source node to decide whether to cooperate or not with the relay. Achieved simulation results show that the bargaining game algorithm actually helps the nodes to select the right strategy, with a substantial goodput improvement, in particular when the energy availability of relay becomes intermittent due to the harvesting.

We consider a carries process which is a generalization of that by Holte in the sense that (i) we take various digit sets, and (ii) we also consider negative base. Performance antipatterns document bad design patterns that have negative influence on system performance. In our previous work we formalized such antipatterns as logical predicates that build on four different views: (i) the static view that captures the software elements (e.g. classes, components) and the static relationships among them;(ii) the dynamic view that represents the interaction (e.g. messages) that occurs between the software elements to provide system functionalities;(iii) the dep.oyment view that describes the hardware elements (e.g. processing nodes) and the mapping of software resources onto hardware platforms;(iv) the performance view that collects a set of specific performance indices. In this paper we present a lightweight infrastructure that enables the detection of software performance antipatterns at runtime through the monitoring of specific performance indices. The proposed approach precalculates the logical predicates of antipatterns and identifies the ones whose static, dynamic and dep.oyment sub-predicates occur in the current system configuration and brings at runtime the verification of performance sub-predicates. The proposed infrastructure leverages model-driven techniques to generate probes for monitoring the performance sub-predicates thus to support the detection of antipatterns at runtime. © A. Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is necessary to explore the factors leading to heavy drought and rainy-flood disaster in some districts of Sichuan province. A method based RS, GIS, GPS and Google earth (GE) is presented to establish LUCC database in Sichuan province and Chengdu district. At first, LUCC is interpreted based on the new temporal images and the land use and land cover database from TM in ***, some ground objects, which could not be identified in the new temporal images, were interpreted utilizing GE with some higher spatial resolution images. Thirdly, the new interpreted LUCC was validated in the field with GPS handheld receiver. Then, LUCC of Sichuan province was updated. A comparative analysis of LUCC between in Sichuan province and in Chengdu district was conducted and the result showed: (1) a large amount of farmland in Sichuan Province was occupied from 2000 to 2005 and the area is 84 573 ha. While construction land gained obviously and the area was 35 828 ha. The dynamic degree of construction land was 111.10 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005. The LUCC demonstrated that the economy of Sichuan province continued to develop, the cities were overspreading and the urban heat island effect was deteriorated from 2000 to 2005. (2) A large amount of farmland was also occupied in Chengdu district from 2000 to 2005, the area amounted to 12 989 ha. The farmland lost was mainly changed to construction land, amounting to 93%. And the dynamic degree was 117.41 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005, which was bigger than that in Sichuan province.

Context modeling is key in wavelet-based image coding schemes to achieve competitive coding performance. Commonly, context models are devised for a particular coding system and are employed for many different types of images. The aim of this work is to evaluate the suitability of three well-known context models for coding hyperspectral images, without focusing on a particular wavelet-based coding system. To do so, an entropy-based measure defined using the mechanisms utilized by modern image codecs is employed. The experimental results assess the appropriateness of the context models considering different coding rates and transform strategies. They reveal that some widely-used context models may not be as adequate as it is generally thought. The hints provided by this analysis may help to design simpler and more efficient wavelet-based codecs for hyperspectral images. © 2014 IEEE.

The development of the Internet and the increase in Internet-connected physical devices, offer new opportunities to reduce the gap between the physical world and the virtual world represented by the Internet. This Internet of Things (IoT) fosters the development of new platforms, services and applications that are not possible before. The work presented here proposes a data sharing model based on a propagation strategy for the IoT. It is composed of a formal theoretical model, a domain specific language and an IDE that implement this model. The developed language not only shows the feasibility of the model but also eases the integration of the proposed model and the related concepts.
