A system that uses adaptive beamforming techniques for mobile Digital Video Broadcasting Satellite (DVB-S) reception is proposed in this paper. The purpose is to enable DVB-S reception in moving vehicles. Phased arrays are able to electronically track the desired signal during dynamic behaviour of the vehicle the array is mounted on. The proposed system uses blind beamforming to adapt the array steering vector to changing signal (conditions and) directions. Movement of the vehicle, the phased array is mounted on, leads to modulus and phase deviations at the beamformer output. An extended version of the Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA) algorithm is used to adapt the steering vector weights to compensate for those deviations. For simulation of the proposed system a model of vehicle dynamics is used to generate realistic antenna data. Simulation of the proposed system based on this antenna data shows appropriate corrections for modulus and phase deviations. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper introduces the design of the parallel connection of DC/DC power supplies. The topology of system configuration and performed modeling were stated. The problems such as the ripple electric current sharing of parallel connected DC power modules, and the circuit and the working mode of the DC/DC modules, the configuration of the parallel connection and their solutions were discussed .The system control strategy were analyzed and simulated based on MATLAB/Pspice. The experimental results verify that the parallel connection of DC/DC power is suitable for the low-voltage high-current output DC-DC converter. ©2010 IEEE.

The analysis and characterization of biomedical image data is a complex procedure involving several processing phases, like data acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. The proper combination and parameterization of the utilized methods are heavily relying on the given image data set and experiment type and may thus require advanced image processing and classification knowledge from the side of the biomedical expert. In this work, an application, exploiting web services and applying ontological modeling, is presented, to enable the intelligent creation of image mining workflows. The described tool can be directly integrated to the Rapid-Miner or similar workflow management platforms. A case study dealing with the creation of a sample workflow for kidney biopsy microscopy images analysis is presented to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed framework. © 2010 IEEE.

Excessive lose of customer account is becoming a major headache for VIP E-Mail hosting companies. Analysis of what kind of customer is more prone to lose and finding the appropriate measures to sustain those customers has become urgent needs. Recently, classification models based on mathematical programming have been widely used in business intelligence. The purpose of this paper is to propose several multiple criteria programming methods for classification and apply these methods to VIP E-Mail behavior classification. We first introduce a model for a generalized multiple criteria programming based classification method, specifically four particular forms, and then we use a cross-validation method to test the stability and accuracy of multiple criteria programming methods on VIP E-Mail accounts. Finally, we compare our models with Support Vector Machine (SVM). The results show that the classification models based on mathematical programming are satisfactorily accurate and stable on a VIP E-Mail dataset. Therefore, it can be concluded that applying the proposed method on VIP E-Mail behavior analysis can provide stable and credible results. © 2010 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

Acquisition of pervasive sensor data can be often unsuccessful due to power outage at nodes, time synchronization issues, interference, network transmission failures or sensor hardware issues. Such failures can lead to inadequate data delivery to the monitoring applications resulting in erroneous conclusions. This paper presents a missing values substitution framework that addresses the aforementioned issue. The presented framework has been evaluated within a pervasive sensor monitoring environment that collects and transmits patient health related data and results have been presented. This paper presents a new method that solves a mixed constraints problem by transforming it into a mixed integer programming problem. The method builds the connection between the feasibility of a mixed constraint problem and the solution to a mixed integer programming problem. The correctness of this method is proven. The integration of Business Process Management (BPM), Service Oriented Computing (SOC) and Model Driven Development (MDD) paradigms to improve the development of services oriented solutions from business models is nowadays in the spotlight. Organizations wanting to remain competitive despite the constant changes in their business are paying more attention to their business processes and its base lifecycle. Business process modeling is also at the centre of software development efforts, as making those models explicitly constitutes the basis for services definition. Transformations between business process and services models allow the automatic generation of services from business processes in a repeatable and systematic way, easing the development process. In this paper we present MINERVA's tool support for service oriented development from business processes, including QVT transformations from BPMN to SoaML models to automatically generate service models from business process models.

This paper presents a field report and summarizes the problems of the appliance of rescue robots during the Collapse of the Historical Archive of the City of Cologne. Two robots where on the field, ready to be applied: A shoe-box size tracked mobile robot (VGTV Xtreme) and a caterpillar like system (Active Scope Camera). Due to the special type of collapse and design limitations of the robots, both robotic systems could not be applied. Either they could not reach/fit into voids or could not be controlled from a safe distance. The problems faced have been analyzed and are described in this paper. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a method of face detection based on feature analysis and edge detection against skin color-like backgrounds. The proposed method consists of three phases including image preprocessing, skin color segmentation, and determination of face candidates. First, the objects in foreground are separated by image preprocessing. Second, the non-skin color objects are rejected by the method of skin color segmentation. Finally, both the elimination of skin color-like blobs in backgrounds and face detection are performed by the method of determination of face candidates. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect most of faces in skin color-like backgrounds. In addition, detection of face images with pose and expression variations or against dark backgrounds are also carried out.
