This paper develops a system of high-speed data transmission on Pocket PC platforms based on 3G network technology, with a high degree of programmability and portability. It is adopted by Microsoft Visual Studio. The system realizes the data collection and transmission through digital media instead of paper media. As it adopts the convergence between mobile phone networks and Internet, PPC terminal can exchange data with the central server. This paper illustrates the development and procedure of the modules. © 2010 IEEE.

The diffusion of epigraphic data has evolved in the last years from printed catalogues to indexed digital databases shared through the Web. Recently, the open EpiDoc specifications have resulted in an XML-based schema for the interchange of ancient texts that uses XSLT to render typographic representations. However, these schemas and representation systems are still not providing a way to encode computational semantics and semantic relations between pieces of epigraphic data. This paper sketches an approach to bring these semantics into an EpiDoc based schema using the Ontology Web Language (OWL) and following the principles and methods of information sharing known as "linked data". The paper describes the general principles of the OWL mapping of the EpiDoc schema and how epigraphic data can be shared in RDF format via dereferenceable URIs that can be used to build advanced search, visualization and analysis systems. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Under the fast-developing carbon trading market, the construction industry needs to mitigate carbon emissions from construction processes. Among various construction processes, tunnel construction produces a significant amount of carbon emissions, since it utilizes various types of high energy-consuming equipment. In order to identify and mitigate such carbon emissions of a tunneling project, it is required to reliably estimate carbon footprints of a tunneling project in the pre-planning phase. This paper presents the methodology for estimating the carbon footprints generated during tunnel construction processes using the collaborative tunneling simulation. A case study using this methodology shows that carbon footprints from a utility tunnel construction are significant compared with those from a building construction. In addition, the assessment of carbon footprints of the case study identifies the opportunities to mitigate such impact by supporting decision-making on equipment and operation plans in the planning phase and providing a control target level of carbon footprints in the execution phase. A natural time-dep.ndent similarity measure for two trajectories is their average distance at corresponding times. We give algorithms for computing the most similar subtrajectories under this measure, assuming the two trajectories are given as two polygonal, possibly self-intersecting lines. When a minimum duration is specified for the subtrajectories, and they must start at exactly corresponding times in the input trajectories, we give a linear-time algorithm for computing the starting time and duration of the most similar subtrajectories. The algorithm is based on a result of indep.ndent interest: We present a linear-time algorithm to find, for a piece-wise monotone function, an interval of at least a given length that has minimum average value. When the two subtrajectories can start at different times in the two input trajectories, it appears difficult to give an exact algorithm for the most similar subtrajectories problem, even if the duration of the desired two subtrajectories is fixed to some length. We show that the problem can be solved approximately, and with a performance guarantee. More precisely, we present (1 + Ε)-approximation algorithms for computing the most similar subtrajectories of two input trajectories for the case where the duration is specified, and also for the case where only a minimum on the duration is specified. © 2009 ACM.

The diffusion of new Internet and web technologies has increased the distribution of different digital content, such as text, sounds, images and videos. In this paper we focus on images and their role in the analysis of diversity. We consider diversity as a concept that takes into account the wide variety of information sources, and their differences in perspective and viewpoint. We describe a number of different dimensions of diversity;in particular, we analyze the dimensions related to image searches and context analysis, emotions conveyed by images and opinion mining, and bias analysis.

As more and more devices are equipped with multiple network interfaces, the multihomed technology is becoming an important technology that can provide more reliable connections against the network failure and better data transmission rate. Concurrent Multipath Transfer (CMT), which is based on SCTP, is devised for multihomed networks. CMT can transmit data over all paths to maximum the data transmission speed. One of the main concerns of CMT is the receiver buffer blocking issue, especially in multihomed wireless mobile networks. If the receiver buffer is blocked, the sender can send only one packet to the receiver. The receiver buffer blocking is mainly caused by the lost data. For small memory devices, e.g., PDA, smart phone and embedded systems, the receiver buffer is limited and has less free space to prevent receiver buffer blocking. In this paper, we proposed Media Indep.ndent Handover - Concurrent Multipath Transfer (MIH-CMT) over wireless networks to deal with the receiver buffer blocking caused by handoff loss. MIH-CMT can reduce the amount of packet loss during handoff, which may lead to the receiver buffer blocking. Simulation results show that MIH-CMT can reduce the effect of the receiver buffer blocking effectively for devices that have smaller buffer size. ©2009 IEEE.

Aspect-oriented concepts are currently exploited to model systems from the beginning of their development. Aspects capture potentially crosscutting concerns and make it easier to formulate desirable properties and to understand analysis results than in a tangled system. However, the complexity of interactions among different aspectualized entities may reduce the benefit of aspect-oriented separation of crosscutting concerns. Some interactions may be intended or may be emerging behavior, while others are the source of unexpected inconsistencies. It is therefore desirable to detect inconsistencies as early as possible, preferably at the modeling level. We propose an approach for analyzing interactions and potential inconsistencies at the level of requirements modeling. We use a variant of UML to model requirements in a use case driven approach. Activities that are used to refine use cases are the joinpoints to compose crosscutting concerns. The activities and their composition are formalized using the theory of graph transformation systems, which provides analysis support for detecting potential conflicts and dep.ndencies between rule-based transformations. This theory is used to effectively reason about potential interactions and inconsistencies caused by aspect-oriented composition. The analysis is performed with the graph transformation tool AGG in order to get a better understanding of the potential behavior of the composed system. In addition, the activity control flow of the aspect/base specification and the composition operators are taken into account to identify the relevant interactions. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Tool support is essential to allow the use of Model-Driven engineering (MDE) in the design of distributed embedded real-time systems. GenERTiCA is a flexible tool that supports a MDE approach, which uses concepts of Aspect-Oriented Development (AOD) to handle non-functional requirements from real-time and embedded systems domain. This paper presents a comprehensive case study that illustrates GenERTiCA usage to generate source code from UML models. GenERTiCA also performs aspects weaving using aspect's information specified in UML models. Results regarding source code generation for a Java platform based on the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ) are presented. Additionally, this paper discusses the implementation of some aspects of a high-level aspects framework, named DERAF, using the mentioned platform. © 2009 IFAC.
