The locally linear embedding (LLE) is improved by introducing multiple linearly indep.ndent local weight vectors for each neighborhood. We characterize the reconstruction weights and show the existence of the linearly indep.ndent weight vectors at each neighborhood. The modified locally linear embedding (MLLE) proposed in this paper is much stable. It can retrieve the ideal embedding if MLLE is applied on data points sampled from an isometric manifold. MLLE is also compared with the local tangent space alignment (LTSA). Numerical examples are given that show the improvement and efficiency of MLLE.

We formulate a fuzzy objective function for principal component analysis and derive algorithms that can extract the appropriate principal components from the spoiled data set. Efficient forest management requires resource information at fine scale. Satellite sensed imagery is one of potential tools for collecting forest resource. In this paper, we developed an automated delineation of tree crown based on a series of image processing procedures and spectral angle using multi-spectral information. Above all, the proposed schemes can be applied to an open forest with complicated scenes. Experimental results reveal that the proposed methods can effectively identify and isolate the tree crown compared to traditional approach, and manual delineation. It also provides detailed forest resource information, and can be used as a reliable management tool for forest resources.
