This paper is dedicated to the research and development of quantization methods for wavelet-based video codec. Uniform, nonlinear quantization method and their potential applications for wavelet-based video codec Dirac have been investigated. The optimized quantization method for wavelet-based video codec have been proposed based on analysis of the processing results for various video types using quantization methods mentioned above. The processing results for various types of video show that the proposed method provides up to 4.2% bitrate saving for low distortion level in the intra-frame coding mode, up to 9.8% bitrate reduction for low distortion level and up to 11.2% bitrate saving for medium (acceptable) distortion level in the inter-frame coding mode compared to the uniform quantization method implemented in video codec Dirac.

High-Performance Computing (HPC) has been created to improve the quality of Pengantar Komputasi Parallel lectures. HPC consists of two PCs with AMD Ryzen 7 processor connected by high-speed LAN. HPC is used to solve problems that students can't practice Parallel Computing because the computer used is not adequate. So it takes a machine that can used together that has many processors, so the problems encountered are resolved. The results obtained, participants can use more than four processors to solve tree problems directly.

The Large Survey Project (LSP) "MeerKAT Absorption Line Survey" (MALS) is a blind H i 21-cm and OH 18-cm absorption line survey in the L- and UHF-bands, with the primary goal to better determine the occurrence of atomic and molecular gas in the circumgalactic and inter-galactic medium, and its redshift evolution. Here we present the first results using the UHF-band, obtained towards the strongly lensed radio source PKS 1830−211, detecting absorption produced by the lensing galaxy. With merely 90 mins of data acquired on-source for science verification and processed using the Automated Radio Telescope Imaging Pipeline (ARTIP), we detect in absorption the known H i 21-cm and OH 18-cm main lines at z = 0.89 at an unprecedented signal-to-noise ratio (4000 in the continuum, in each 6 km s−1 wide channel). For the first time we report the detection at z = 0.89 of OH satellite lines, so far not detected at z > 0.25. We decompose the OH lines into a thermal and a stimulated contribution, where the 1612 and 1720 MHz lines are conjugate. The total OH 1720 MHz emission line luminosity is 6100 L . This is the most luminous known 1720 MHz maser line. It is also among the highest luminosities for the OH-main lines megamasers. The absorption components of the different images of the background source sample different light paths in the lensing galaxy, and their weights in the total absorption spectrum are expected to vary in time, on daily and monthly time scales. We compare our normalized spectra with those obtained more than 20 yrs ago, and find no variation, in spite of the high signal-to-noise ratios. We interpret the absorption spectra with the help of a lens galaxy model, derived from an N-body hydro-dynamical simulation, with a morphology similar to its optical HST image. The resulting absorption lines dep.nd mainly on the background continuum, and the radial distribution of the gas surface density, for each atomic /molecular species. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) have found a practical use in multiple applications of digital signal processing including image compression. Despite a set of advantages, DWT is still weakly used in modern video compression technique and systems. In this study, a new statistical multiplicative watermark detector in contourlet domain is presented. The contourlet coefficients of images are highly non-Gaussian and a proper distribution to model the statistics of the contourlet coefficients is a heavy-tail Probability Distribution Function (PDF). In this study, a multiplicative watermarking scheme is proposed in the contourlet domain using t location-scale distribution (tLS). Afterward, we used the likelihood ratio decision rule and tLS distribution to design an optimal multiplicative watermark detector. The detector showed higher efficiency than other watermarking schemes in the literature, based on the experimental results, and its robustness against different attacks was verified.

To assist home care for the elderly, we've finished a smart walker in previous study, with the features including destination track navigation, obstacle detection, self-positioning, follow-up, and wireless inductive charging. In this study, we further finish the user's intention detection function on the smart walker to control the smart walker. We install 3 pressure sensors on both sides of smart walker handles respectively to extract the user's force application, which are taken as input signal. Through AdaBoost classifier, it finishes input signal recognition and controls of the smart walker moving forward/backward directly. The user doesn't need to press the switch or click on the panel, but apply force on the handle directly, which makes the operation easier. The experiment validates that the accuracy can achieve higher than 98%, which can simplify the operation effectively and achieve the practical purpose.

The paper presents an analysis of the results of electric energy production in a wind farm. A statistical analysis of the measurement results were performed using the STATISTICA program. The article presents time series on the forecast of electric energy production and actually sold electric energy produced in a wind farm. The analysis was based on data coming from a real wind farm - located in Subcarpathion region.

The emergence of artificial neural networks (ANNs) caused a great revolution in the knowledge area of pattern-classification and contributed to the fast development of intelligent systems. For an ANN to be effective, its topology parameters must be set up, such as learning rate, number of layers, and number of neurons. Therefore, optimization algorithms can be used to produce more efficient ANNs. In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm (GA) to better estimate parameters of an ANN applied to the classification of the type, strength, and orientation of different hand movements from electromyography signals. Acquired data signals were first processed with the Wavelet Transform (WT) to extract the most important features. These features were presented to the optimized hybrid intelligent system (HIS) composed of ANNs and the optimization GA. Classification results are promising, presenting accuracy rates above 90% and reliability rate of 98%. These results support the use of HIS in practical applications such as smart prostheses and automatic medical evaluations.

Finding a document that is similar to a specified query document within a large document database is one of important issues in the Big Data era, as most data available is in the form of unstructured texts. Our testing collection consists of two parts: In the first part texts were produced by human work by artificial plagiarism approach through the linear pipelined procedure. In the second part, texts are generated by software that inserts, deletes, and substitutes certain parts of the target documents to make a similar document from an input document. These document set is known as the Serially Evolved Documents (SED). We propose new methods: Order Preserving Precision (OPP) and Order Preserving Recall (OPR), to compute how the evolutionary order is kept among output documents obtained from the subject IR system. Using those testing texts we evaluated KONAN, a document retrieval system for Korean documents. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.
