The Internet has emerged to be an effective platform for world universities to share their academic outcomes and to show their influence and contribution via constructing rich and easy-to-access web sites. At the same time, Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (WR), proposed by Centre for Scientific Information and Documentation (CSIC), ranks the world universities by the quantity of digital documents available on their web sites and the quality of the web pages measured by the incoming hyperlinks. Therefore, WR is currently recognized as an important index and opportunity for universities willing to promote themselves by the Internet technology. In this paper, we propose a novel cloud-based information providing system for Webometrics Rankings which employs web mining techniques to gather the WR indices from the Internet automatically, and provides useful information in real time for the managers of university web sites. The proposed system is dep.oyed on Microsoft Azure cloud platform in order to give up-to-data and deeper insights of the WR ranking indicators for its users. It utilizes the scalable computation and storage capability of the cloud platform to continually gather the WR index data from the Internet. The proposed system is designed with architecture suitable for cloud-based application such that the period to thoroughly update the WR ranking data is shortened from six months to be within one week. The proposed service model provides a paradigm for constructing cloud-based service of information providing applications.

This paper aims at developing grey relational clustering for FPGA placement. The proposed GRAP (Grey Relational Clustering Apply to Placement) algorithm was combined with grey relational clustering and CAPRI algorithm to successfully solve FPGA placement design problem. Experimental results demonstrate that the GRAP compares the Hilbert, Z and Snake with BB cost function in space filling curve. The GRAP improved BB cost by 0.753%, 0.324% and 0.096% for the Hilbert, Z and Snake, respectively. © 2012 IEEE.

For observing 3 years' birthday of an intelligent stream cipher, which is named as Golden Fish, we design a remembrance of fishbone named Fish tailed lion based on it. The Fish tailed lion is a mini intelligent stream cipher, which includes one stream cipher and one block cipher and two HASHs. It's just a fishbone because we only care about the standard fuse module seamlessly without any real data. This paper states about the updated toy-model design combining with the latest online ciphers, which are S-quark, Trivium, Skein and Serpent. We use to call it as the hopping design. Though the Fish tailed lion is a mini intelligent stream cipher design, she is the other kind of design attempt totally distinguishing with classical one. We do not only focus on the hopping of several updated online designs, which are mini scale among a lot of online ciphers, but also simplify our design modules to easily suitable to the profoundly automatic and controllable design at cryptography field. © 2012 IEEE.

We propose a method to automatically translate a preexisting activity recognition system, devised for a source sensor domain S, so that it can operate on a newly discovered target sensor domain T, possibly of different modality. First, we use MIMO system identification techniques to obtain a function that maps the signals of S to T. This mapping is then used to translate the recognition system across the sensor domains. We demonstrate the approach in a 5-class gesture recognition problem translating between a vision-based skeleton tracking system (Kinect), and inertial measurement units (IMUs). An adequate mapping can be learned in as few as a single gesture (3 seconds) in this scenario. The accuracy after Kinect → IMU or IMU → Kinect translation is 4% below the baseline for the same limb. Translating across modalities and also to an adjacent limb yields an accuracy 8% below baseline. We discuss the sources of errors and means for improvement. The approach is indep.ndent of the sensor modalities. It supports multimodal activity recognition and more flexible real-world activity recognition system dep.oyments.

A broadband microstrip comb-line antenna using a corporate feeding system was developed. The antenna was composed of four colinearly-arranged comb-line antennas with traveling-wave excitation fed by a parallel-feeding circuit of tournament configuration. The total phase deviation due to frequency change became one fourth of the ordinary series feeding from the end of the antenna. Furthermore, the terminations of the inner two comb-lines were connected at the overall center of the developed antenna. Therefore, the narrowband matching elements are not necessary and the amplitude deviation of the aperture distribution for input from one side due to frequency change is compensated by deviation for input from the other side. Broad bandwidth can be expected by using the proposed configuration. The proposed antenna was designed at 76.5 GHz. The effect of the proposed feeding-circuit for broadband operation was confirmed by comparing the measured performances of the antennas fed by other feeding circuits;the end feeding, the center feeding and the ordinary corporate feeding. The bandwidth of the proposed corporate feeding antenna with the center connecting was approximately 14% and 7% wider than the antennas of the center feeding and of the ordinary corporate feeding, respectively. With the development of Cloud computing, more and more Cloud systems are designed and dep.oyed to solve large-scale problem in the area of business and science engineering. However, few efforts are taken to address the issue of performance evaluation in Cloud environments. In this paper, we present an integrated performance evaluation middleware, which is aiming to provide users and researchers an easy-to-use toolkit to evaluate their Cloud system's runtime performance, or compare the performance when different resource management policy and task scheduling algorithms are taken into account. Massive experiments are conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed system, and the results indicate that its configurable feature is very useful when users are conducting performance comparing under different conditions. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. -All rights reserved.

The presented work aims to contribute towards the standardization and the interoperability off the Future Internet through an open and scalable architecture design. We present S3OiA as a syntactic/semantic Service-Oriented architecture that allows the integration of any type of object or device, not mattering their nature, on the Internet of Things. Moreover, the architecture makes possible the use of underlying heterogeneous resources as a substrate for the automatic composition of complex applications through a semantic Triple Space paradigm. Created applications are dynamic and adaptive since they are able to evolve dep.nding on the context where they are executed. The validation scenario of this architecture encompasses areas which are prone to involve human beings in order to promote personal autonomy, such as home-care automation environments and Ambient Assisted Living. © 2012 IEEE.

Analyses of climate change impacts on wind speed and energy potential by using ANN

The main objectives of this study are; i) to define variations of wind velocity and energy potential in Istanbul and Isparta, ii) to study trends, cyclic components, micro, meso and macro scale effects and climate changing, iii) to predict wind energy potential by using artificial neural networks (ANN). Wavelet methodologies present better results on temporal and spatial data analyses. Results of this paper evaluate wind energy potential, its annual and inter-annual variability, self similarity; and relation with periodic and non-periodic fluctuations of wind speed values in two study areas.

Formal engineering constitutes a very important issue in software engineering projects in real life. The developing of software does not always reach the desired level of reliability and performance even the life cycle of the project used to be controlled by methodologies and specific tools as Formal Languages and Formal Methods. Despite the efforts the question is that even in the best cases, the final product has a lot of errors and in some cases these errors produce catastrophic disasters (ARIANE 5, for example). This paper shows a new proposal to formalize the life cycle according to the worker at each stage and the importance of using not only the classical logics (propositional and first order), but also fuzzy logic in order to formalize the certain and uncertain information involved in natural language. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
