Extracting important info.mation from complex skin lesion images is vital to effectively distinguish between different types of skin cancer images. In addition to providing high classification performance, such computer-aided diagnostic methods are needed where the models are interpretable and can provide knowledge about the discriminative features in skin lesion images. This underlying info.mation can significantly assist dermatologists in identifying a particular stage or type of cancer. With its flexible representation and global search abilities, Genetic Programming (GP) is an ideal learning al-gorithm to evolve interpretable models and identify important features with significant info.mation to discriminate between skin cancer classes. This paper provides an in-dep.h analysis of a recent GP-based feature learning method where different well-developed feature descriptors are integrated into the learning algorithms to extract high-level features for skin cancer image classification. The study explores the effectiveness of utilizing feature learning for this complex task and designing program structure to suit the problem domain as it has shown promising results compared to commonly used feature descriptors and an existing GP-based feature learning method developed for general image classification. This study analyzes the GP-evolved models to identify the prominent features and most effective feature descriptors important for the classification of these skin cancer images. The evolved models are interpretable, they provide knowledge that can assist dermatologists in making diagnoses in real-time clinical situations by identifying prominent skin cancer characteristics captured by the feature descriptors and learned during the evolutionary process. © 2024 IEEE.

Industry 4.0's emergence necessitates reliable communication systems. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is a promising solution, but challenges like limited coverage and atmospheric absorption persist. The Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRS) offers transformative potential by dynamically manipulating wave propagation to improve millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication. This research investigates the impact of the distance of Industrial User Equipment (iUE) from the IRS and Base Station (BS), and the height of the IRS from the ground, along with the impact of sum throughput by increasing the number of IRS elements. The IRS-assisted system exhibits enhanced performance within the mmWave frequency band compared to the sub-6 GHz band. The observed achievable rate gains, exceeding 200% on average, underscore the significant performance enhancement enabled by IRS dep.oyments. Moreover, increasing the number of IRS elements significantly enhances the overall throughput. The decrease in required transmit power with an increasing number of Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces IRS elements can be attributed to the enhanced ability of IRS to efficiently reflect and manipulate electromagnetic waves. As more IRS elements are dep.oyed, they collectively contribute to optimizing signal propagation, allowing for better control and redirection of the transmitted signals. This phenomenon enables the system to achieve the desired communication objectives with less overall transmit power. Additionally, the attainable capacity of the examined IRS-assisted wireless communication system exhibits growth alongside an increase in the elevation of the IRS installation. Results showcase the potential of IRSs to enhance coverage and communication reliability, providing valuable insights for designing efficient wireless systems in smart factories and Industry 4.0 applications. © 2024 IEEE.

The 5G LAN-type service refers to a service that supports communication between users within a group through the 5G system. It provides functions similar to those of traditional Local Area Networks (LAN) or Virtual Private Networks (VPN), but it gains attention across various services due to the enhanced performance of 5G such as high throughput, low latency, mobility management, and security. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) introduced the 5G LAN-type service in Release 16 and defined the architecture, protocols, and requirements to support the 5G LAN-type service. In this paper, we briefly examine the architecture and components of the 5G network based on the 3GPP standard and introduce the structure and protocols for supporting 5G LAN-type services in a 5G network. © 2024 IEEE.

To support XR services, the 3GPP standards intro-duce a protocol data unit (PDU) set, which is the minimum group of packets needed to carry a video frame, and also define the relative importance of different PDU sets. This allows the network operator to handle network traffic based on the importance of PDU sets. 3GPP standards define two options for PDU set-based traffic handling in the user plane: 1) gNB-based and 2) UPF-based. This paper introduces a basic concept of PDU set and specifies two procedures for PDU set-based traffic handling in the user plane. © 2024 IEEE.

In a wireless communication network, the performance and QoS of the network mainly dep.nd on the propagation model of the channel. However, most empirical propagation models for outdoor environments don't estimate the propagation of radio signals properly. This study proposes a novel technique based on machine learning to predict channel propagation in outdoor environments. The Linear Discriminate Analysis (LDA) method is proposed to estimate the path loss measurements in an urban and suburban environment, the proposed model considers;the geo-location of the receiver antenna, line-of-sight, and non-LOS propagation scenarios. In terms of accuracy, the results show that when using the LDA-based model to predict the pathloss measurements, results are better than traditional theoretical and analytical models. © 2022 IEEE.

As the demand for global connectivity increases, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), particularly satellite-based systems, have gained significant attention in communication network standardization. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has been at the forefront of developing standards that incorporate satellite communications into the broader terrestrial network framework. This paper reviews the progression of NTN standardization, focusing on three key stages: (1) the use of satellites as relays or the next generation NodeBs (gNBs), (2) the integration of user plane functions (UPF) within satellites, and (3) the inclusion of control plane network functions (NFs) within satellites. These developments in standardizations reflect a shift from basic relay functions to fully integrated satellite networks.
