This research introduces a high step-up DC-DC converter for renewable energy sources (RESs) that has lower voltage stress on its single switch. With one linked coupled inductor (CI), a quadratic boost converter plus a couple of multiplier units are utilized as circuits for primary and secondary, respectively. The energy from the leakage inductance can be recycled, increasing efficiency and reducing voltage stress. The proposed converter has a higher voltage gain and lower switch stress when compared to similar existing quadratic converter topologies. The operation principles and mathematical analysis of the proposed converter are thoroughly studied. Following that, a comparison of several structures is presented. Finally, simulation results of PSCAD software are shown to further verify the theoretical study.

3D printing, or additive manufacturing, has revolutionized various industries, particularly in healthcare where it facilitates the creation of personalized medical solutions. However, achieving biomimicry, especially in anatomical models, remains a challenge due to the mismatch in mechanical properties between synthetic polymers and biological tissues. This study aims to bridge this gap by reviewing the mechanical properties of human anatomical tissues and investigating analogous properties in 3D-printable polymers. Using a combination of literature review and experimental methods, the study focuses on anatomical structures such as bones, skin, and cartilage. Four base polymers with distinct mechanical characteristics are blended to create nine different polymer compounds, which are then subjected to compression and tensile tests. Results reveal varying mechanical properties across the polymer blends, with some exhibiting promising biomimetic potential.

Interacting with their workspace, detecting obstacles, and real-time path planning in the field to reach the goal in the unknown environment are current working areas of mobile robotics. Working in an unknown environment with dynamic obstacles is a challenging topic for autonomous robots, which need to protect themselves from the dynamic obstacles they encounter, not damage the obstacle, and re-plan their path according to their new position. This study performed an experimental comparison of three different global planners for trajectory planning of mobile robots in an unknown environment with dynamic obstacles. Global Planner, Carrot Planner, and NavfnROS planners in the ROS package were used as global planners in two different mazes with dynamic obstacles. The durations from the start to the goal point in the two designed environments were determined for each global planner.

This work deals with an innovative architecture of a phased antenna array operating in the Ka band. It envisages the adoption of custom designed PA together with 64 hollow metallic horns as radiating elements. The proposed architecture is designed to work in the 25.5 to 27 GHz frequency span with a target EIRP higher than 70 dBm, even considering the maximum beam steering configuration of $\pm 20^{\circ}$ . The proposed concept highlights the flexibility in targeting different power levels, antenna gain and steering capabilities to finally address a large number of use-cases. The exploitation of non-uniform array is also taken into account to prevent grating lobes and increasing the steering capabilities of the phased array.

To make a management decision for the Operational technology (OT) environment, obtaining OT asset information from a plant is essential. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) can play a crucial role in evaluating the performance of the manufacturing process, minimizing production costs, assessing process effectiveness, and investigating various settings to improve performance, operations, and quality in OT. This paper aims to provide a detailed examination of how Asset information Mining Sources (AIMSs) support the process for acquiring both static and runtime OT asset information. Once we have obtained accurate OT asset information, we can calculate the KPIs and incorporate them into a knowledge representation using an ontology-based model. This model can assist the management team in making informed decisions and provide a roadmap for exploring further automation possibilities.

Today’s industrial control systems consist of tightly coupled components allowing adversaries to exploit security attack surfaces from the information technology side, and, thus, also get access to automation devices residing at the operational technology level to compromise their safety functions. To identify these concerns, we propose a model-based testing approach which we consider a promising way to analyze the safety and security behavior of a system under test providing means to protect its components and to increase the quality and efficiency of the overall system. The structure of the underlying framework is divided into four parts, according to the critical factors in testing of operational technology environments. As a first step, this paper describes the ingredients of the envisioned framework. A system model allows to overview possible attack surfaces, while the foundations of testing and the recommendation of mitigation strategies will be based on process-specific safety and security standard procedures with the combination of existing vulnerability databases. © 2023, CC BY.

Brain computer interface (BCI)-based virtual environment control has found broad applications in solving and pursuing factual healthcare issues concerning efficiency, safety, and costs. In this technical paper, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) robot with a simulator-equipped BCI system was utilized. The Gazebo simulator was employed to develop a simulated setting. The software CitySim World allowed rendering the simulated milieu more down-to-earth. A non-invasive electroencephalogram (EEG)-based BCI was used to follow the brain signals and extract the P300 component, a kind of simultaneous BCI controlling procedure for safe, fast, and inexpensive implementation. This UGV control system using human brain activity can be beneficial for the real UGV platform control. It enables the discovery of the probable errors in the physical implementation. All the steps implementing our BCI system were appropriately provided (data acquisition system, user interface design, BCI data architecture, ROS/ robot Jackal, and implementation and tests). Furthermore, the project implementation and some solutions to possible issues were posed. The project outcomes were assessed by employing BCI in a simulation;before implementing real-time, to determine errors and resolve the validity of the project scope. © 2022 IEEE.

This work deals with the design and development of a non invasive though rather effective solution to detect carious lesions. The main aim of the study is to develop a simple automatic approach for the assessment of the tooth demineralization, which represents the earlier stage of the dynamic carious process, by means of impedance spectroscopy. In particular, impedance measurements were carried out on 50 extracted human teeth. Teeth were demineralized in-vitro according to a validated protocol;then, a morphological analysis of the tooth surface was performed by scanning electron microscopy to confirm enamel demineralization. The proposed approach tries to take advantage of the change of impedance phase due to the demineralization process. Data analysis confirmed that the best frequency for discriminating between demineralized and non-demineralized teeth is about 15 Hz, and this parameter can be used for building up an automatic classifier based on Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) topology. Impedance data were processed by using a modified single neuron, which allows classifying demineralized and sound teeth with an error rate of about 7%, estimating therefore the presence of carious lesions in progress. The presented work can be considered as a feasibility study with a final goal to conceive a simple and low-cost measurement system to identify caries at an early stage © 2023 IEEE.

Understanding human behavior and monitoring mental health are essential to maintaining the community and society's safety. As there has been an increase in mental health problems during the COVID-19 pandemic due to uncontrolled mental health, early detection of mental issues is crucial. Nowadays, the usage of Intelligent Virtual Personal Assistants (IVA) has increased worldwide. Individuals use their voices to control these devices to fulfill requests and acquire different services. This paper proposes a novel deep learning model based on the gated recurrent neural network and convolution neural network to understand human emotion from speech to improve their IVA services and monitor their mental health. Human resource is one of the most valuable assets in an organization. They are bounded to develop the unique and dynamic aspects that strengthen their competitive advantage to persist in an always changing market environment. In order to recruit a quality candidate for an organization, reducing human involvement and verifying details of the candidate is important in recruitment process. Furthermore, having an idea about how well or poor the employees perform, and how likely the employee attrition can occur is vital in human resource management process. This paper is an attempt to introduce smart human resource management system that can maximize the productivity of an organizational environment using machine learning and blockchain technologies. The end goal of this research is a smart human resource management system that reduces human judgment, time in the candidate selection process and predicts employee performance and attrition to motivate current employers to maximize productivity with minimal financial loss in the workplace environment. Skill assessment and resume classification have been done using unsupervised learning algorithms and natural language processing after extracting raw data from employee resumes using Object Character Recognition. Candidate details verification is done by comparing the hashes of the records which are stored in the blockchain. Employee performance and attrition are predicted using supervised machine learning classification techniques with high accuracy and the result of the final performance is generated as a score for each employee considering the multiple attributes that has been standardized and regulated by some specifically considered e-competence frameworks. © 2020 IEEE.
