The IPv6 over Low-powered Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) protocol was introduced to allow the transmission of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) packets using the smaller-size frames of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, which is used in many Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The primary duty of the 6LoWPAN protocol is packet fragmentation and reassembly. However, the protocol’s standard currently does not include any security measures, not even authenticating the fragments’ immediate sender. This lack of immediate-sender authentication opens the door for adversaries to launch several attacks on the fragmentation process, such as the buffer-reservation attacks that lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack and resource exhaustion of the victim nodes. This paper proposes a security integration between 6LoWPAN and the Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) through the Chained Secure Mode (CSM) framework as a possible solution. Since the CSM framework provides a mean of immediate-sender trust, through the use of Network Coding (NC), and an integration interface for the other protocols (or mechanisms) to use this trust to build security decisions, 6LoWPAN can use this integration to build a chain-of-trust along the fragments routing path. A proof-of-concept implementation was done in Contiki Operating System (OS), and its security and performance were evaluated against an external adversary launching a buffer-reservation attack. The results from the evaluation showed significant mitigation of the attack with almost no increase in power consumption, which presents the great potential for such integration to secure the forwarding process at the 6LoWPAN Adaptation Layer. The Raman gain coefficient, the attenuations at signal and pump wavelengths and the refractive indices of both core and cladding of silica doped Germania optical fiber are functions of the Germania ratio, temperature and wavelengths. The Raman amplifier gain increases with Germania ratio but it decreases with temperature. Also, Raman gain either increases or decreases with signal wavelength. As the fiber core radius increases, the Raman gain decreases. The gain distribution through the amplifier length of dual pumps with power divided ratio (S=0.5) is better than that for the forward pump amplifier and the backward pump amplifier. The forward pump has a maximized gain but the backward pump has a minimized gain, while the dual pumps have both the maximum and minimized gains. The final amplifier gain for the three kinds of pumps with the same pump power (Pp) is equally. The pump wavelength (λp=1.4553μm) gives the biggest Raman gain at the center of wideband signal wavelength (λs=1.50 to 1.60μm). With λp =1.48μm, the gain increases with λs until λs=1.57μm and after that the gain decreases with λs and so with the above three kinds of pumps, gain fluctuations over the band wavelength of signal. Considering today's variety of technologies and devices connected to the network, a huge number of manufacturers, there are many problems of their interaction and the need to create and adopt specialized communication standards and protocols. This article is devoted to the description of various protocols proposed by the IEEE, IETF and ITU for use in the framework of the concept of the Internet of Things. The article includes a description of the protocols of the application, transport, network and data link layers of the TCP / IP model. It also discusses protocols designed specifically to meet IoT requirements. A brief description of the protocols and the principle of operation of each of them are given. This review article contributes to a more correct choice of protocols when building a network, detecting and managing devices, and establishing interaction between objects of the Internet of Things.

Brain computer interface (BCI)-based virtual environment control has found broad applications in solving and pursuing factual healthcare issues concerning efficiency, safety, and costs. In this technical paper, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) robot with a simulator-equipped BCI system was utilized. The Gazebo simulator was employed to develop a simulated setting. The software CitySim World allowed rendering the simulated milieu more down-to-earth. A non-invasive electroencephalogram (EEG)-based BCI was used to follow the brain signals and extract the P300 component, a kind of simultaneous BCI controlling procedure for safe, fast, and inexpensive implementation. This UGV control system using human brain activity can be beneficial for the real UGV platform control. It enables the discovery of the probable errors in the physical implementation. All the steps implementing our BCI system were appropriately provided (data acquisition system, user interface design, BCI data architecture, ROS/ robot Jackal, and implementation and tests). Furthermore, the project implementation and some solutions to possible issues were posed. The project outcomes were assessed by employing BCI in a simulation; before implementing real-time, to determine errors and resolve the validity of the project scope.

An analysis of the enrollment, students participating on tasks or quizzes, drop-out rate and certifications requests have been done.

A general procedure to optimize a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) capacitive wireless power transfer system is described, i.e. a configuration with multiple transmitters and multiple receivers. A step-by-step procedure is presented to maximize the system efficiency, by determining the optimal loads and sources. The wireless link is considered fixed, and can be characterized by an admittance matrix, determined by analytical calculations, full-wave simulations or measurements.

It has been a while since Approximate Computing (AxC) is applied systematically at various abstraction levels to increase the efficiency of several applications such as image processing and machine learning. Despite its benefit, AxC is still agnostic concerning the specific workload (i.e., input data to be processed) of a given application. For instance, in signal processing applications (such as a filter), some inputs are constants (filter coefficients). Meaning that a further level of approximation can be introduced by considering the specific input distribution. This approach has been referred to as “input-aware approximation”. In this paper, we explore how the input-aware approximate design approach can become part of a systematic, generic, and automatic design flow by knowing the data distribution. In particular, we show how input distribution can affect the error characteristics of an approximate arithmetic circuit and also the advantage of considering the data distribution by designing an input-aware approximate multiplier specifically intended for a high-pass FIR filter, where the coefficients are constant. Experimental results show that we can significantly reduce power consumption while keeping an error rate lower than state-of-the-art approximate multipliers.

The interrogation of optic fiber sensors usually relies in complex and costly equipment with low portability due to their size such as Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSA) or high-resolution spectrometers. Because of this, micro spectrometer devices, such as Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) with Fabry-Pérot tunable filters, are emerging as simpler and compact alternatives capable of being used to acquire spectral information in a wide wavelength band. In this work it is described the development of an interrogation system capable of infrared spectroscopy using a MEMS Fabry-Pérot Interferometer (MEMS-FPI) with a spectral response in the 1350nm to 1650nm range. Its performance is tested with the interrogation of long period fiber gratings both as a refractive index sensor and as a temperature sensor. Deconvolution techniques such as Wiener filtering are used to reduce the impact of the tunable filter's impulse response in the measured signal. Results are comparable to those obtained using a typical OSA which shows the system's potential as a cheaper and more transportable alternative. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Context Agile software development (ASD) aims to deliver high-quality software. However, software quality often gets less attention due to focus on *** an evidence-based quality-aware ASD process that organizations can use to create a more quality-aware development process and improve software *** methodUsing design science research, we collaborated with four organizations applying ASD in different contexts. Involving a total of 35 practitioners, we designed company-specific evidence-based quality-aware ASD processes, which were validated through simulated scenarios, implemented, and evaluated by the practitioners. ResultsA general ASD process model, derived from the company-specific models, was created, which shows the specific activities, frequencies, roles, and development phases where evidence can be used to improve software quality. The new process model contributed towards improved bottleneck identification, release readiness, and quality issues prioritization. We also learned that companies must be mindful of the rules that determine the use of evidence. Conclusion Integrating the use of quality related evidence into the ASD process can make it quality-aware, supporting software quality management, and enabling timely reaction through fast feedback loops. The evidence-based quality-aware ASD process is applicable in any Scrum-like ASD process. Applicability in other forms of ASD, however, requires further research. © 2023, The Authors.
