This paper presents the short circuit performance of a novel SiC circuit breaker device, which is based on the “thyristor dual” functionality. The developed device structure is motivated with regard to manufacturing aspects and electrical requirements. Furthermore, the basic “thyristor dual” operation is elaborated on the basis of quasi-static electrical measurements of a fabricated prototype. The proposed self-sensing and self-triggering devices make auxiliary circuitry like sensors and micro-controllers expendable and practically have no propagation delay. As a result, short circuit clearance within 122 ns at 800 V is demonstrated in experiments. Moreover, by utilisation of a third device terminal, a temporary current limiter functionality can be obtained. The scalability of the current limit value is discussed on the basis of measurements in time domain. The maximum current limit value achieved is 7.4 times higher than the trigger current level of the circuit breaker device. Additionally, the same circuit configuration which is used for the current limiting mode, allows to remotely reset the circuit breaker after it turned to blocking-state. This opens up a wide range of possibilities to enhance the circuit breaker with intelligent functionalities.

Brain function is substantially linked to the highly organized structure of neuronal networks. The structures of in vitro assembled neuronal circuits often vary between samples and change over time, making it challenging to reliably record network functional output and link it to network structure. Therefore, engineering neuronal structures with predefined geometry and reproducible functional features is essential to robustly model in vivo neuronal circuits. Here, we engineered thin microchannel devices to assemble 2D and 3D modular networks. The microchannel devices were coupled with a multi-electrode array (MEA) electrophysiology system to enable long-term electrophysiology recordings from microengineered circuits. Each network consisted of 64 modules connected to their adjacent modules by micron-sized channels. The microstructures physically confined neurons to the recording electrodes, which significantly improved the efficiency of electrophysiology readout. In addition, the microstructures maintained the modular network structure for weeks. Modular circuits within microfluidic devices showed consistent spatial patterns of activity over weeks, which was lacking in the randomly formed circuits. The number of physical connections per module was shown to influence the measured activity and functional connectivity parameters, which represents the impact of network structure on its functional output. We show that microengineered 3D modular networks with profound activity and higher number of functional connections recapitulate key functional features of developing cortex. Structurally and functionally stable 2D and 3D networks mimic the modular architecture of brain circuits and provide a robust and reproducible in vitro microphysiological system for basic and translational neuroscience research. © 2024, The Authors. An highly-wearable (wireless, few-channels and dry electrodes) device is proposed for EEG based valence emotion recognition. The component is a part of an instrument for real time engagement assessment in rehabilitation 4.0. The frontal, central, and occipital asymmetry were used as well known features related to emotional valence. The device was metrologically characterized on human subjects emotionally elicited through passive viewing of pictures taken from Oasis data set. As metrological references, a standardized test, the Self Assessment Manikin, was exploited. A 2nd order polynomial kernel-based Support Vector Machine reached 83.2 ± 0.3% accuracy in classifying emotional valence from each 2-s epoch of EEG acquired signals.

User dissatisfaction due to buffering pauses during streaming is a significant cost to the system, which we model as a non-decreasing function of the frequency of buffering pause. Minimization of total user dissatisfaction in a multi-channel cellular network leads to a non-convex problem. Utilizing a combinatorial structure in this problem, we first propose a polynomial time joint admission control and channel allocation algorithm which is provably (almost) optimal. This scheme assumes that the base station (BS) knows the multimedia frame statistics of the streams. In a more practical setting, where these statistics are not available a priori at the BS, a learning based scheme with provable guarantees is developed. This learning based scheme has relation to regret minimization in multi-armed bandits with non-i.i.d. and delayed reward (cost). All these algorithms require none to minimal feedback from the user equipment to the base station regarding the states of the media player buffer at the application layer, and hence, are of practical interest. In the last decade, Approximate Computing (AxC) has been extensively employed to improve the energy efficiency of computing systems, at different abstraction levels. The main AxC goal is reducing the energy budget used to execute error-tolerant applications, at the cost of a controlled and intrinsically-tolerable quality degradation. An important amount of work has been done in proposing approximate versions of basic operations, using fewer resources. From a hardware standpoint, several approximate arithmetic operations have been proposed. Although effective, such approximate hardware operators are not tailored to a specific final application. Thus, their effectiveness will dep.nd on the actual application using them. Taking into account the target application and the related input data distribution, the final energy efficiency can be pushed further. In this paper we showcase the advantage of considering the data distribution by designing an input-aware approximate multiplier specifically intended for a high pass FIR filter, where the input distribution pattern for one operand is not uniform. Experimental results show that we can significantly reduce the power consumption while keeping an error rate lower than state of the art approximate multipliers.

In this paper, we propose a new deep unfolding neural network based on the ADMM algorithm for analysis Compressed Sensing. The proposed network jointly learns a redundant analysis operator for sparsification and reconstructs the signal of interest. We compare our proposed network with a state-of-the-art unfolded ISTA decoder, that also learns an orthogonal sparsifier. Moreover, we consider not only image, but also speech datasets as test examples. Computational experiments demonstrate that our proposed network outperforms the state-of-the-art deep unfolding network, consistently for both real-world image and speech datasets. © 2021, CC BY.

We tackle the problem of a set of agents achieving resilient consensus in the presence of attacked agents. We present a discrete-time reputation-based consensus algorithm for synchronous and asynchronous networks by developing a local strategy where, at each time, each agent assigns a reputation (between zero and one) to each neighbor. The reputation is then used to weigh the neighbors' values in the update of its state. Under mild assumptions, we show that: (i) the proposed method converges exponentially to the consensus of the regular agents;(ii) if a regular agent identifies a neighbor as an attacked node, then it is indeed an attacked node;(iii) if the consensus value of the normal nodes differs from that of any of the attacked nodes' values, then the reputation that a regular agent assigns to the attacked neighbors goes to zero. Further, we extend our method to achieve resilience in the scenarios where there are noisy nodes, dynamic networks and stochastic node selection. Finally, we illustrate our algorithm with several examples, and we delineate some attacking scenarios that can be dealt by the current proposal but not by the state-of-the-art approaches. In this paper, an electronic instrument was developed that can detect electrical energy without using the conventional probes. The proposed system can detect the AC and DC voltage via wireless detector. The circuit design is based on the theory of an electronic circuit consisting of Darlington transistors that have a high gain, and a copper strip (or wire) is used as a probe. It is primarily concerned with the development of an electronic circuit for the safe handling of hazardous electrical, radiation and chemical substances. Furthermore, the proposed system offers multipurpose services such as short circuit prevention and troubleshooting as well as cable disconnection prevention. It also utilizes hazardous sensor services for any leakage voltages and currents since only DC voltages are used in the circuit design. The design is considered "green innovation" due to the fact that a DC voltage source is used rather than AC or high voltage. Intelligently designed and selection practices make efficient use of resources and minimize energy consumption by creating efficient environments. System analysis has been conducted using Python software since this language offers flexibility, and is simple to use.

The issue tracking system (ITS) is a rich data source for data-driven decision-making. Different characteristics of bugs, such as severity, priority, and time to fix, provide a clear picture of an ITS. Nevertheless, such information may be misleading. For example, the exact time and the effort spent on a bug might be significantly different from the actual reporting time and the fixing time. Similarly, these values may be subjective, e.g., severity and priority values are assigned based on the intuition of a user or a developer rather than a structured and well-defined procedure. Hence, we explore the evolution of the bug dep.ndency graph together with priority and severity levels to explore the actual triage process. Inspired by the idea of the "Wayback Machine" for the World Wide Web, we aim to reconstruct the historical decisions made in the ITS. Therefore, any bug prioritization or bug triage algorithms/scenarios can be applied in the same environment using our proposed ITS Wayback Machine. More importantly, we track the evolutionary metrics in the ITS when a custom triage/prioritization strategy is employed. We test the efficiency of the proposed algorithm using data extracted from three open-source projects. Our empirical study sheds light on the overlooked evolutionary metrics - e.g., overdue bugs and developers' loads - which are facilitated via our proposed past-event re-generator.
