We consider the problem of secure communications in a Gaussian two-way relay channel applying the compute-and-forward scheme using nested lattice codes. Two nodes employ half-duplex operation and can exchange confidential messages only via an untrusted relay. The relay is assumed to be honest but curious, i.e., an eavesdropper that conforms to the system rules and applies the intended relaying scheme. We provide an achievable secrecy rate region under a weak secrecy criterion and provide the proof. We show that the achievable sum secrecy rate is equivalent to the difference between the computation rate and the multiple access channel (MAC) capacity. Particularly, we show that both the nodes must encode their messages such that the common computation rate pair falls outside the MAC capacity region of the relay.

Due to technology scaling, the number of processor cores on a chip constantly increases. Already today, we reach the domain of so called many-core systems-on-chip. However, this advance comes at the cost of reliability, which especially affects the communication performance of the underlying network-on-chip. Today's resiliency concepts for network-on-chip like automatic repeat request with retransmission are not feasible anymore and lead to long latencies and high network load. In this paper, we propose an on-chip transmission concept based on random linear network coding to provide high resiliency and an efficient communication in many-core processors at the same time. The concept offers a flexible and efficient computable coding scheme, which is well suited for on-chip communication and allows to exploit the path diversity of large networks. First, we use a flit-level cycle-accurate simulation model to investigate the performance potential of the proposed transmission scheme on a network-on-chip with 64 cores. Second, we propose an analytic model for random linear network coding in network-on-chip with retransmission, which is able to provide a very accurate performance estimation close to the cycle-accurate simulation. Finally, we apply the analytic model to investigate the performance potential on the large-scale, assuming a processor with 1024 cores.

This paper presents a new 3D video database (STESCAL3D -Stereoscopic Scalable 3D), made up of 3D stereo video sequences affected by different types of degradations. A set of subjective quality grades have been collected in three geographically displaced sites. The database contents have been produced using scalable video coding to encode 3D stereo video clips with distinct encoding parameters, after which different transmission degradations have been applied to the encoded video streams. These sequences have been subjectively evaluated by observers from three countries, Croatia, Portugal and Greece, using a purpose-built web-based platform. The subjective quality data compiled were processed, analyzed and compared to quality estimates obtained using several well-known objective measures. It is shown that the correlation between objective quality estimates and the subjective quality grades is in general low. Additionally the results show that stereo-view asymmetries in terms of encoding parameters and packet loss ratio (PLR) leads to low quality of experience. The video database and the subjective grades collection are publicly available with the referral link provided in the text.

Surface clutter can corrupt both Earth and planetary Radar Sounder (RS) observations preventing definitive interpretation of subsurface features, which are often the primary interest of geologists and planetary scientists. Clutter is usually detected by manual or automatic techniques that require ancillary information about the topography of the surface. However, this topography information is not always available. In this paper, we propose a novel method for clutter detection that is indep.ndent from ancillary information. This method uses a two channel RS system to exploit the cross-channel interferometric phase difference and is made up three main steps: i) feature extraction and theoretical phase difference estimation, ii) RS interferogram formation and iii) comparison of theoretical and real phase difference distributions. The proposed method has been validated on RS data acquired in Greenland.

This paper presents a new technique to lower the computational cost of the electrothermal (ET) analysis of a large on-chip power distribution network. It is based on a node reduction strategy following a preliminary efficient steady-state solution of the ET problem. After a proper classification of nodes according to temperature and voltage drop ranges, a reduced network is then produced by means of clustering and topological network transformations, and is available for any static/dynamic analysis. Due to the achievable reduction ratios, it possible to lower by order of magnitudes the computational cost at very good accuracies. A case-study is provided where a power grid of 4 millions of nodes is reduced by a factor of 180 (electrical network) and 500 (thermal network).

This paper presents the electrothermal analysis of the performances of a Power Delivery Network for nanoscale integrated circuits, comparing standard (copper) with carbon nanotubes and graphene interconnects. Realistic carbon interconnects are considered, with the typical values of electrical and thermal parameters obtainable with the current fabrication technology. A temperature-dep.ndent model for the electrical resistance is adopted, able to describe the case of negative temperature coefficient of the resistance, as it has been theoretically predicted and experimentally proved. The electrothermal analysis of the power network of a standard chip puts on evidence, for the first time, an interesting trade-off between voltage drop and temperature increase, while exploiting carbon nanotube and graphene based interconnects.

Nonlinear time-series method with the help of the TISEAN Program is applied to study the chaotic behavior in physical aging of A10S90 glass accelerated with thermal annealing at 40 °C. The kinetics of enthalpy losses was measured experimentally to determine the phase space reconstruction parameters, the results being presented in terms of a comparison with naturally long-term aged glass of the same composition. The observed deterministic chaoticity (involving chaos and fractal analysis tools such as detrended fluctuation analysis, attractor identification using phase space representation, delay coordinates, mutual information, false nearest neighbors) is parameterized so as to compare with microstructural models of long-term natural (more than 2 decades) and light-assisted physical aging in As-Se glasses. © 2015 ISAST.

This paper addresses the problem of fault detection in the context of a collection of agents performing a shared task and exchanging relative information over a communication network. A techniques in the literature is used to construct a meaningful observable system equivalent to the original unobservable system of systems. A solution involving Set-Valued Observers (SVOs) and a left-coprime factorization of the system is proposed to estimate the state in a distributed fashion and a proof of convergence of the estimates is given under mild assumptions. The performance of the detection algorithm against deterministic and stochastic faults;and when the system is subject to unmodeled disturbances is assessed through simulations. © 2015

Compute-and-forward is an emerging technique to increase throughput in interference networks. It allows the relays to decode an equation of codewords instead of each single codeword. Choosing the appropriate equation plays a crucial role on the performance. While there are several algorithms that solve this optimization problem, they all perform a local optimization. In large relay networks this can result in linear dep.ndent equations at the destination and a large outage probability. In this paper we propose new non-cooperative strategies on how to choose the desired equations and enforce linear indep.ndent equations. This allows to solve the optimization problem in a localized and distributed manner. Further we compare the achievable sum-rate of those strategies and show that correlated signals have a huge impact on the performance.

The main difficulty to implement modern image coding systems in a GPU is that the algorithms employed in the core of the coding scheme are inherently sequential. We recently proposed bitplane image coding with parallel coefficient processing (BPC-PaCo), a coding scheme that, contrarily to most systems, permits the processing of multiple coefficients of the image in parallel. This enables the use of SIMD computing, ideal for its implementation in a GPU. This paper introduces and evaluates the GPU implementation of BPC-PaCo employing two different strategies that tradeoff computational throughput and compression efficiency. The proposed implementation is compared to the best CPU and GPU implementations of JPEG2000, the state-of-the-art image compression standard. Experimental results indicate that BPC-PaCo achieves a computational throughput that is an order of magnitude superior to that achieved with such implementations with a small reduction in coding efficiency.
