Paraphrase evaluation is used to determine whether two input sentences share a same meaning. The automatic analysis for paraphrase evaluation technology has a potential use in the area of information retrieval technology since correctly paraphrased sentences can be used as alternative input sentence in the retrieval process. In this paper, we suggest an evaluation method that is suitable for the Korean language by using morphological analysis. Using our method, we present preliminary results on how our automatic evaluation scores compare to the human evaluation scores.

In this paper, a relay-based energy-efficient cooperative communication strategy is proposed, under the hypothesis that the relay transmits with power drawn from energy-harvesting (EH) sources. Assuming a deterministic EH model under which the harvested amount of energy is known prior to transmission, a spectrally efficient adaptive Bit-Interleaved Coded (BIC) OFDM modulation scheme has been investigated. To guarantee the successful reception of a packet, Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocol has been adopted. Assuming a long term static channel, the expected goodput (EGP) metric is used as cost function to be optimized. The most significant step-ahead of the proposed approach with respect to state-of-the-art is to increase the cooperation gain by using a bargaining game algorithm. Since most renewable sources are highly intermittent, they can induce significant fluctuation on the available power. The bargaining game algorithm takes into account the energy status of the relay and helps the source node to decide whether to cooperate or not with the relay. Achieved simulation results show that the bargaining game algorithm actually helps the nodes to select the right strategy, with a substantial goodput improvement, in particular when the energy availability of relay becomes intermittent due to the harvesting.

The TERENCE project was an European FP7 project that improved reading comprehension of its primary users, namely, 7-11 years old children, hearing and deaf 1, from primary schools, with deep text comprehension problems. The project developed an adaptive learning system (ALS) delivering learning material and tasks in an adaptive fashion, according to the profiles of its learners. The paper describes the TERENCE evaluation methodology, its innovative aspect (i.e., the parallel investigation of psycho-pedagogical effectiveness and usability), and focuses on the relationship between usability and psycho-pedagogical data. The study shows that precision in smart games is linearly related to comprehension. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

User profiling is an important part of content-based and hybrid recommender systems. These profiles model users' interests and preferences and are used to assess an item's relevance to a particular user. In the news domain it is difficult to extract explicit signals from the users about their interests, and user profiling dep.nds on in-dep.h analyses of users' reading habits. This is a challenging task, as news articles have short life spans, are unstructured, and make use of unclear and rapidly changing terminologies. This paper discusses an approach for constructing detailed user profiles on the basis of detailed observations of users' interaction with a mobile news app. The profiles address both news categories and news entities, distinguish between long-term interests and running context, and are currently used in a real iOS mobile news recommender system that recommends news from 89 Norwegian newspapers. This paper addresses the problem of fault detection in the context of a collection of agents performing a shared task and exchanging relative information over a communication network. A techniques in the literature is used to construct a meaningful observable system equivalent to the original unobservable system of systems. A solution involving Set-Valued Observers (SVOs) and a left-coprime factorization of the system is proposed to estimate the state in a distributed fashion and a proof of convergence of the estimates is given under mild assumptions. The performance of the detection algorithm against deterministic and stochastic faults;and when the system is subject to unmodeled disturbances is assessed through simulations. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is necessary to explore the factors leading to heavy drought and rainy-flood disaster in some districts of Sichuan province. A method based RS, GIS, GPS and Google earth (GE) is presented to establish LUCC database in Sichuan province and Chengdu district. At first, LUCC is interpreted based on the new temporal images and the land use and land cover database from TM in ***, some ground objects, which could not be identified in the new temporal images, were interpreted utilizing GE with some higher spatial resolution images. Thirdly, the new interpreted LUCC was validated in the field with GPS handheld receiver. Then, LUCC of Sichuan province was updated. A comparative analysis of LUCC between in Sichuan province and in Chengdu district was conducted and the result showed: (1) a large amount of farmland in Sichuan Province was occupied from 2000 to 2005 and the area is 84 573 ha. While construction land gained obviously and the area was 35 828 ha. The dynamic degree of construction land was 111.10 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005. The LUCC demonstrated that the economy of Sichuan province continued to develop, the cities were overspreading and the urban heat island effect was deteriorated from 2000 to 2005. (2) A large amount of farmland was also occupied in Chengdu district from 2000 to 2005, the area amounted to 12 989 ha. The farmland lost was mainly changed to construction land, amounting to 93%. And the dynamic degree was 117.41 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005, which was bigger than that in Sichuan province.

The High Energy Modular Ensemble of Satellites (HERMES) project is aimed to realize a modular X/gamma-ray monitor for transient events, to be placed on-board of a nano-satellite bus (e.g. CubeSat). This expandable platform will achieve a significant impact on Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) science and on the detection of Gravitational Wave (GW) electromagnetic counterparts: the recent LIGO/VIRGO discoveries demonstrated that the high-energy transient sky is still a field of extreme interest. The very complex temporal variability of GRBs (experimentally verified up to the millisecond scale) combined with the spatial and temporal coincidence between GWs and their electromagnetic counterparts suggest that upcoming instruments require sub-microsecond time resolution combined with a transient localization accuracy lower than a degree. The current phase of the ongoing HERMES project is focused on the realization of a technological pathfinder with a small network (3 units) of nano-satellites to be launched in mid 2020. We will show the potential and prospects for short and medium-term development of the project, demonstrating the disrupting possibilities for scientific investigations provided by the innovative concept of a new "modular astronomy" with nano-satellites (e.g. low developing costs, very short realization time). Finally, we will illustrate the characteristics of the HERMES Technological Pathfinder project, demonstrating how the scientific goals discussed are actually already reachable with the first nano-satellites of this constellation. The detector architecture will be described in detail, showing that the new generation of scintillators (e.g. GAGG:Ce) coupled with very performing Silicon Drift Detectors (SDD) and low noise Front-End-Electronics (FEE) are able to extend down to few keV the sensitivity band of the detector. This paper addresses the problem of high computational requirements in the implementation of Set-Valued Observers (SVOs), which places stringent constraints in terms of their use in applications where low computational power is available or the plant is sensitive to delay. It is firstly shown how to determine an overbound for the set-valued estimates, which reduces the overhead by limiting the number of inequalities defining those set-valued state estimates. In the particular setting of distributed gossip problems, the proposed algorithm is shown to have constant complexity. This algorithm is of prime importance to reduce the computational load and enable the use of such estimates for real-time applications. Results are also provided regarding the frequency of the triggers in the worst-case scenario. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulation.

While the future importance of cyber-physical systems is widely acknowledged, there is surprisingly rare discussion about the design of operating systems for these kinds of systems. We present an extended view on the low-level abstractions to be offered by the operating system to applications. The central idea is the treatment of all relevant cyber-physical entities as task execution resource, which directly impacts the representation of tasks, communication and memory in the application programming interface. The resulting concept framework can serve as starting point for future research in this field.
