This paper presents a reasoning method based on the combination of Textual CBR and RBR to deal with the case described by the natural language with the intention of resolving the information retrieval in the flight-test procedure. Then experiments are made by using the reasoning system based on the method. The results show that not only could the method retrieve the cases from the system correctly, but also the Textual CBR procedure could complement the RBR procedure when the latter one cannot retrieve the case correctly. Thus the method could efficiently increase availability of the reasoning system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Traditional cellular network infrastructure provide fixed radio coverage. The temporal changes in user distribution throughout the day and from day to day leads to inefficient use of radio resources. Our position is to create an adaptive radio coverage to match the radio resources and user demand. The main approach for creating flexible radio coverage (in our view) is to replace large cells with many small cells that can be switched ON and OFF as needed. The small cells have the added crucial advantage of supporting the very high data rates expected in future networks. The proposed approach will rely on developing advanced Self Organizing Network (SON) techniques to dep.oy, monitor and manage radio resources in the small cells. This paper discusses requirements for this approach and how it can be implemented within the SON.

The rail traffic in Europe is increasing in frequency. As a result of this, all the countries are updating their power supply system involving the use of high-power static converters. Moreover, the high required power implies the use of medium voltage (MV) supply chains (i.e. 15-25 kV) while the traction drives are operated at voltages of some kV. In order to adapt the two voltage levels, an on board transformer is typically used. Anyway, this transformer is characterized by high size and weight and limits the performances of the vehicle. A solution to this issue can be represented by the use of a power electronic transformer (PET) that is constituted by a double stage converter with an interposed high frequency transformer. The use of a high frequency transformer instead of the traditional at industrial frequency allows the reduction of size and weight with consequent advantages for vehicle performances. The paper presents a focus on circuital model, design and dimensioning of a PET. In particular, a topology of the converters and the relative control strategy are proposed. Moreover, the problem of core sizing is analysed and some guidelines are given. Finally, for chosen values of power and switching frequency, the sizing is executed and results of numerical simulations are given.

The paper deals with the reduction of the channel outage in a smart grid scenario since it plays a crucial role on the control performance of the Demand/Response Management. A study on a two-way cognitive-based switching procedure is carried out and tools for the optimum sensing-time evaluation are provided. Such evaluation considers a cost function that takes into account both the sensing-accuracy improvement gained by increasing the sensing time and the transmission-capacity degradation induced by sensing-time increasing.

Textile antennas for body-worn applications have some very specific requirements and needs. From an electrical engineer's point of view, good radiation characteristics and impedance matching to the active electronics are important. From the wearer's perspective, the antenna should be unobtrusively integrated into the clothing, and the smart textile comfortable to wear. New techniques offer the potential to fulfill these different needs. One new approach consists of applying metalized eyelets to implement substrate integrated waveguide technology on textile materials. This results in high-performance on-body antennas with excellent behavior in close proximity of the human body. Two realizations are discussed: a wideband design and a miniaturized half mode substrate integrated waveguide dual-band design. Both yield excellent free-space and on-body performance, and superb antenna-body isolation, automatically resulting in very robust characteristics when dep.oyed on-body.

In mountain areas, soil moisture is a key parameter for both agricultural management and natural hazard support. This paper presents an approach for retrieval of soil moisture content (SMC) from different satellite sensors with a specific focus on mountain areas. The experimental analysis was carried out on images acquired over the Sudtirol/Alto Adige Province (Italy) during 2010-2011 from the RADARSAT2 in quad-pol mode and Envisat ASAR in Wide Swath mode in VV polarization. The methodology for soil moisture retrieval is based on the Support Vector Regression (SVR) method specifically trained to be able to consider topographic effects of the mountain areas. The comparison with ground measurements collected during field campaigns indicates an RMSE value of around 5% of SMC% while the comparison with fixed ground stations reports an error of around 9% of SMC%. Comparing RADARSAT2 and ASAR SMC, both datasets reveal very similar distributions of SMC values. The cumulative histogram curve for the two datasets shows a slight underestimation of SMC in the ASAR product. This could be ascribed to the reduced resolution of ASAR WS and the use of VV polarization.

The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND)1 is a planned large-scale observatory of ultra-high-energy (UHE) cosmic particles — cosmic rays, gamma rays, and neutrinos with energies exceeding 108 GeV. Its ultimate goal is to solve the long-standing mystery of the origin of UHE cosmic rays. It will do so by detecting an unprecedented number of UHECRs and by looking with unmatched sensitivity for the undiscovered UHE neutrinos and gamma rays associated to them. Three key features of GRAND will make this possible: its large exposure at ultra-high energies, sub-degree angular resolution, and sensitivity to the unique signals made by UHE neutrinos. The strategy of GRAND is to detect the radio emission coming from large particle showers that develop in the terrestrial atmosphere — extensive air showers — as a result of the interaction of UHE cosmic rays, gamma, rays, and neutrinos. To achieve this, GRAND will be the largest array of radio antennas ever built. The relative affordability of radio antennas makes the scale of construction possible. GRAND will build on years of progress in the field of radio-detection and apply the large body of technological, theoretical, and numerical advances, for the first time, to the radio-detection of air showers initiated by UHE neutrinos. The design of GRAND will be modular, consisting of several indep.ndent sub-arrays, each of 10 000 radio antennas dep.oyed over 10 000 km2 in radio-quiet locations. A staged construction plan ensures that key techniques are progressively validated, while simultaneously achieving important science goals in UHECR physics, radioastronomy, and cosmology early during construction. Already by 2025, using the first sub-array of 10 000 antennas, GRAND could discover the long-sought cosmogenic neutrinos — produced by interactions of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays with cosmic photon fields — if their flux is as high as presently allowed, by reaching a sensitivity comparable to planned upgraded versions o

Recently, molecular devices with interesting behaviour like conductance, switching, rectification, gate modulation and negative differential resistance were realized. In this paper we propose a method to model hierachical logic circuits based on Oligo-Phenylene Vinylene (OPV) molecular field effect transistor (MOLFET). The modeling is based on a device level spice equivalent model and on a versatile language (VHDLAMS) assuring a hierarchical description and a successive approximation approach. Elementary logic blocks as well as a more complex circuit (RCA) were designed and simulated with a crossbar organization, both in a NMOS-like and in a CMOS-like configuration.

Estimation of the orientation and location of a rigid object in 3D space using its 2D projection is considered in the current paper. In this case, a state-space model is proposed and applied to an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) which estimates and tracks the parameters of 6 degree of freedom (DOF) movement (rotation and translation) of the object in 3D space. At the first stage, a matrix which projects the feature points in 3D space to 2D space is introduced based on the rotation-translation equations. Secondly, using the arrays of this matrix, the coordinates of the feature points in the image space are modeled by a state-space model. Finally, the 6DOF parameters are estimated using an EKF. The proposed algorithm is then evaluated by simulating the human head movements and the simulation results reveal that it can estimate the Euler angles with the estimation error less than 0.2 degree.

Virus writers make their viruses undetectable by using obfuscation methods,which ends in metamorphic *** propose a method named detection circle which is based on the hidden Markov Model *** have used three elements to characterize a family of viruses: string occurrence probability,specifically-located character occurrence probability,and the amount of virus *** the evaluation,we have created viruses and tested them by our method and four anti-virus software *** experimental results show that our detection rate was much higher in the first stage without *** we have encrypted the detected viruses and tested the proposed algorithm *** this stage none of the four anti-viruses software packages detected viruses while our method found 70%of them.
