Kim et al. improved the histogram-shifting embedding technique by exploring the spatial correlation between pixels. The original image had to be partitioned into sub-images. The differences between the sub-images were then calculated for use in hiding data. However after embedding, larger image damage would be impacted by the resulting difference histogram for which an empty bin exists at -1. In this paper, we propose a new shifting method to resolve the problem which results in higher PSNR. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can effectively increase image quality, avoid unnecessary damage and the hidden secret is not easily detected from the stego media. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, a system for retrieving document images from digital library based on visual similarity of them is proposed. First, a graph layout created based on document extracted blocks. This graph represents document layout structure. A vector created based on path patterns to represent this graph. Then, self organizing structure is used for indexing of images in the database. This method allows us to retrieve similar images without direct comparison between the query image and database files. Experimental results on a variety of document image databases confirm the feasibility, validity, and efficiency of our proposed approach in visual based document image retrieval. © 2010 IEEE.

Under the fast-developing carbon trading market, the construction industry needs to mitigate carbon emissions from construction processes. Among various construction processes, tunnel construction produces a significant amount of carbon emissions, since it utilizes various types of high energy-consuming equipment. In order to identify and mitigate such carbon emissions of a tunneling project, it is required to reliably estimate carbon footprints of a tunneling project in the pre-planning phase. This paper presents the methodology for estimating the carbon footprints generated during tunnel construction processes using the collaborative tunneling simulation. A case study using this methodology shows that carbon footprints from a utility tunnel construction are significant compared with those from a building construction. In addition, the assessment of carbon footprints of the case study identifies the opportunities to mitigate such impact by supporting decision-making on equipment and operation plans in the planning phase and providing a control target level of carbon footprints in the execution phase. Various approaches to control aeroelastic wing section with structural nonlinearity emerged in the last years. One of the approaches is based on the Tensor Product (TP) model transformation and the feasibility test of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) under the Parallel Distributed Compensation framework. The main contribution of this paper is that it extends the previously established qLPV model of the aeroelastic wing section with nonlinear friction. It is proven that the extended model can be exactly described after TP type polytopic decomposition. The qLPV model of the aeroelastic wing section with Coulomb friction was transformed to TP type polytopic model form for which LMI based controller was designed. The designed controller is compared to controllers of other authors dealing with the same problem.

This paper is to study the object coverage problem in visual sensor networks. When sensors equipped camera with rotating capability in the monitoring environment are dep.oyed randomly, the images of target object with circle shape may be captured by different camera nodes in different orientations at the same time. In order to achieve the full coverage of an object, there might be lots of redundant image data to consume the transmission energy in visual sensor networks. An approach is proposed to reduce the cover set of camera nodes by rotating cameras of sensors. Such a set can cover the entire object using as few sensors as possible. In addition, a mapping is proposed for find out the coverage problem for target objects with convex polygon shape. The simulation results show that our approach can reduce the number of sensors while preserving the maximum coverage range of object. © 2010 ACM.

Electric power utilities develop asset management (AM) strategies, based upon their reliability studies, which provide brighter images of the utility company's performance. Failure rate models are highly instrumental in transforming from simple reliability analyses into effective AM strategies. This paper proposes an adaptive network-based inference approach, to model momentary failure rate, in terms of the most influential factors. These factors are achieved through the vast field studies and historical outage fault statistics of the Greater Tehran Electricity Distribution Company (GTEDC) network. Performance of the presented failure rate model is tested, and discussions on capabilities of the model are then presented in detail.

Voltage instability of power system comes from increasing load rapidly, and causes bus voltage to drop. When voltage is out of control and it can be voltage collapse. This paper presents the fuzzy modeling approach to the description QV curve of power system for analysis of voltage stability. The QV curve can identify voltage stability limit, and it determine robustness of power system. The fuzzy system model is basically a collection of fuzzy IF-THEN rules that are combined via fuzzy reasoning for describing the features of a system under study. The method of fuzzy modeling has been proven to be well-suited for modeling nonlinear industrial processes described by input-output data. In view of the nonlinear characteristic of the QV curve, the method of fuzzy modeling is employed for representing the curve. Based on the Sugeno-type fuzzy model, various models with different numbers of modeling rules are used to describing the QV curve. It is found that such fuzzy model offers both quantitative and qualitative descriptions for the QV curve. © 2009 SICE.

in recent years ERP, as a comprehensive new system, has been used by many Malaysian companies. It has been successful in some and in some others it has failed. This article assesses 15 success factors and 8 failure factors in SME companies and tries to recognize the effective ones. The results show that the two most important failure factors in implementing ERP in Malaysian SMEs are 'poor planning or poor management ' and 'inappropriate training methods' and the most important success factors are ' Implementing team's teamwork and composition' and ' Effective training of users'. It could be conducted that team work is a key success factor in Malaysian SMEs and also training is of vital importance. As a result, by a sound investment and effective trainings we may guarantee the success of ERP in SMEs in Malaysia, failure to do so will lead to a defeat for ERP in Malaysian setting. 2009 IEEE.
