Quantum computing algorithms are considered for several problems in graph theory. Classical algorithms involve searching over some space for finding the minimal spanning tree problem in a graph. We modify classical Prim's algorithm and replace quantum search instead of classical search, of which it will lead to more efficient algorithm. Also we we proposed the structure for non-classical algorithms and design the various phases of the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm for classical and quantum parts. Finally, we represent the result of implementing and simulating Prim's algorithm in the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm.

An important approach to reduce power dissipation is reducing the number of instructions executed by the processor. To achieve this goal, this paper introduces a novel instruction scheduling algorithm that executes an instruction only when its result is required by another instruction. In this manner, it not only does not execute useless instructions, but also reduces the number of instructions executed after a mispredicted branch. The cost of the extra hardware is 161 bytes for 128 instruction window size. Measurements done using SPEC CPU 2000 benchmarks show that the average number of executed instructions is reduced by 13.5% while the average IPC is not affected.

In this paper, a motion-based approach for detecting highlevel semantic events in video sequences is presented. Its main characteristic is its generic nature, i.e. it can be directly applied to any possible domain of concern without the need for domain-specific algorithmic modifications or adaptations. For realizing event detection, the video is initially segmented into shots and for every resulting shot appropriate motion features are extracted at fixed time intervals, thus forming a motion observation sequence. Then, Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) are employed for associating each shot with a semantic event based on its formed observation sequence. Regarding the motion feature extraction procedure, a new representation for providing local-level motion information to HMMs is presented, while motion characteristics from previous frames are also exploited. The latter is based on the observation that motion information from previous frames can provide valuable cues for interpreting the semantics present in a particular frame. Experimental results as well as comparative evaluation from the application of the proposed approach in the domains of tennis and news broadcast video are presented. Copyright 2008 ACM.

In this paper we present a solar energy harvesting circuit for low-power applications describing circuit architecture and guidelines for an optimal design. We evaluate the performance of two implemented prototypes intended to power a wireless embedded system under different light intensities and different switching frequencies. Measurements show that higher switching frequencies allow reaching the maximum efficiency (~90%) at higher light intensities, whereas lower operating frequencies perform better under lower irradiance. Experimental results show that circuit optimization dep.nds on light conditions and the proposed solar energy harvester can autonomously supply the nodes of a wireless sensor network WSN.

Discrete event systems have been researched for quite a while in the domain literature. A series of modelling and analysis techniques have been used. Sequential automata models are at the basis of their studies and theories have been born to provide tools for their design. Automatic transport systems with accumulation areas are a particular type of systems where the sequential automata model can be successfully used. The aim of this paper is to establish connections between a sequential automata model and a Petri net model: first for a node with "one" input and "m" outputs and the second for a node with "n" inputs and "m" outputs, using basic elements of the automatic transport systems with accumulation areas. General models for an automatic transport system with accumulation areas are obtain by composing sub-models. In this paper, untimed sequential automata and untimed Petri nets have been used for modelling, time being not a defining element for this modelling. © 2008 IEEE.

Network optimization especially in power industry is one of the main goals of system engineering. It not only reduces the cost of the system but also improves its stability. Among various methods of optimal control of power networks, like Linear Optimal Control (LOC), a model-based adaptive optimal method has been presented here which can also be used in multi machines systems with multimode high and low-frequency oscillations; although this paper only addresses linear and reduced machine-order equations which are derived from an equivalent system with an infinite-bus and a line. In this paper a model for the machine and the network is first presented and then by definitions of reference model and errors, these errors will be tend to zero in an optimal way, so that the system actually tracks the reference model. This method will be seen to be a general one and is applicable both in high and low frequencies.

In this paper, a generic motion-based approach to semantic video analysis is presented. The examined video is initially segmented into shots and for every resulting shot appropriate motion features are extracted at fixed time intervals. Then, hidden Markov models (HMMs) are employed for performing the association of each shot with one of the semantic classes that are of interest in any given domain. Regarding the motion feature extraction procedure, higher order statistics of the motion estimates are calculated and a new representation for providing local-level motion information to HMMs is presented. The latter is based on the combination of energy distribution-related information and spatial attributes of the motion signal. Experimental results as well as comparative evaluation from the application of the proposed approach in the domain of news broadcast video are presented.

In this paper, four individual approaches to region classification for knowledge-assisted semantic image analysis are presented and comparatively evaluated. All of the examined approaches realize knowledge-assisted analysis via implicit knowledge acquisition, i.e. are based on machine learning techniques such as Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Self Organizing Maps (SOMs), Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Under all examined approaches, each image is initially segmented and suitable low-level descriptors are extracted for every resulting segment. Then, each of the aforementioned classifiers is applied to associate every region with a predefined high-level semantic concept. An appropriate evaluation framework has been employed for the comparative evaluation of the above algorithms under varying experimental conditions. ©2008 IEEE.

The growing design complexity of today's embedded real-time systems requires new techniques aiming the raising of the abstraction level since earlier stages of design in order to deal with such complexity in a suitable way. This paper reports a case study, which provides an assessment of two well-know high-level paradigms, namely Aspect- (AO) and Object-Oriented (OO) Paradigms. Concepts of both paradigms were applied at modeling phase of a Distributed Embedded Real-Time System (DERTS). The handling of DERTS’ functional and non-functional requirements (at modeling level) using AO and OO concepts is discussed. Both paradigms are compared using of a set of software engineering metrics, which were adapted to be applied at modeling level. The presented results show the suitability of each paradigm for DERTS specification in terms of reusability quality of model elements.
