Given field experiment data collected by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP), we aim to design and create a relational database to store the data and support efficient queries. As one of the most widely-known turfgrass research programs in the world, NTEP has generated large volumes of data on turfgrass cultivars and experimental germplasm since the early 1980s, providing invaluable information for a variety of user groups (e.g., homeowners, seed companies, golf course managers, retailers, turfgrass researchers) to select cultivars that best fit their needs (e.g., winter survival, pest tolerance, turf quality). The datasets have historically been stored in large sets of text files and spreadsheets. Currently, NTEP data are delivered to users through a website ( *** ) as summary reports and it can be extremely tedious (e.g., hundreds of clicks, data merging, jargon) to perform a simple query (e.g., best cultivar selection with typical conditions). This significantly limits the use of NTEP data and hides its value from the public. To address these limitations, we carried out an interdisciplinary effort with horticulture and computer science researchers to design and create the first NTEP database – NTEP-DB 1.0 – to reduce the manual efforts and expert knowledge currently required to extract meaningful information from the data. Experiments confirm that the query results are correct, and that the database can greatly reduce manual efforts. Anticipating next-generation advances, we also recommend incorporating spatial data types and analytical techniques into future designs of the database.

Explainable deep learning based medical diagnostic system

Recently, many researchers have conducted data mining over medical data to uncover hidden patterns and use them to learn prediction models for clinical decision making and personalized medicine. While such healthcare learning models can achieve encouraging results, they seldom incorporate existing expert knowledge into their frameworks and hence prediction accuracy for individual patients can still be improved. However, expert knowledge spans across various websites and multiple databases with heterogeneous representations and hence is difficult to harness for improving learning models. In addition, patients' queries at medical consult websites are often ambiguous in their specified terms and hence the returned responses may not contain the information they seek. To tackle these problems, we first design a knowledge extraction framework that can generate an aggregated dataset to characterize diseases by integrating heterogeneous medical data sources. Then, based on the integrated dataset, we propose an end-to-end deep learning based medical diagnosis system (DL-MDS) to provide disease diagnosis for authorized users. We also provide explanations for the diagnose results. Evaluations on real-world data demonstrate that our proposed system achieves good performance on diseases diagnosis with a diverse set of patients’ queries. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.

The goal of the reported research was to evaluate the machining conditions the magnetizable and non-magnetizable materials by the novel permanent Magnetic Assisted Ball Burnishing (MABB) tool. C45 steel, KO36 austenite steel, AA7075 aluminium and PA6 polymer materials were applied in the experiments. The main aim was to determine the optimal the technological parameters for these materials taking in consideration the hardness and roughness of the surface, too. Taguchi design of experiment methodology was applied in this study to simply look for optimal technology, compared to other kinds of technologies reported in various scientific papers. Surface quality is a complex feature that refers to the micro-geometrical characteristics of the machined surface. It includes roughness and waviness and gives a realistic picture about the top of the surface, while micro hardness and grains structure are especially important on sub-surface level. The results mirrored that all of the tested materials can be burnished by the MABB tool, however, the results from the economical viewpoints are diverse. The MABB tool was mainly designed to reduce the surface roughness but this cold metal forming process has further result like the surface hardening and further conclusions were also drawn that the MABB tool: • capable to reduce the surface of non-magnetizable materials, too, • increases the surface hardness of C45 © 2019 International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO). The last years of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21th mark the facilitation trend of our real life due to the big development and progress of the computers and other intelligent devices. Algorithms based on artificial intelligence are basically a part of the software. The transmitted information by Internet or LAN arises continuously and it is expected that the protection of the data has been ensured. The aim of the present paper is to reveal false names of users’ accounts as a result of hackers’ attacks. The probability a given account to be either false or actual is calculated using a novel approach combining machine learning analysis (especially clusters’ analysis) with chaos theory. The suspected account will be used as a pattern and by classification techniques clusters will be formed with a respective probability this name to be false. This investigation puts two main purposes: First, to determine if there exists a trend of appearance of the similar usernames, which arises during the creation of new accounts. Second, to detect the false usernames and to discriminate those from the real ones, indep.ndently of that if two types of accounts are generated with the same speed. These security systems are applied in different areas, where the security of the data in users’ accounts is strictly required. For example, they can be used in on-line voting for balloting, in studying the social opinion by inquiries, in protection of the information in different user accounts of given system etc. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Video summarization methods produce a video abstraction that permits users to obtain an informative video frames with minimum storage space and in less time. The keyframes is significantly characterize the salient contents of the video. This paper presents a design of video summarization framework for Internet videos to provide a quick way to realize, browse and review its contents. The main objective is to determine, extract and collect the most informative frames in the acquired video to formulate a summary video related to the original video. We have suggested a suitable approach for shot boundary detection along video frames. The sudden change benchmark between successive frames has calculated based on spline curve representation of frame data points inspired by capturing the visual difference. As well as, a selection and integration of the key frames from each shot is specified through clustering the higher differences between shot frames, in order to tackle the redundant frames issue and generate the video summary. From the experimental results, the proposed video summary approach is capable of capturing an informative content of video shots and preventing redundancy frames with minimum requirements in terms of storage space.

This work presents a simulated study of the energy management of an energy system connected to the grid with photovoltaic generation and battery storage. The work proposes a energy management system based on fuzzy logic. It is intended to be used in the hotel industry. The objective of the proposed controller is to maximise the renewable power source but including also economic criteria in the management. The proposal was implemented in simulation considering a 5,1kW peak photovoltaic installation and a set of batteries with a capacity of 384Ah. First results obtained show that the system achieves the specifications proposed. Thus, the study evidences the potential of the proposed control algorithm and demonstrate the suitability of the use of intelligent techniques for the energy management in hotels. © 2018 DIME Università di Genova, DIMEG University of Calabria.

We propose a framework for teaching complex industrial automation concepts with the help of Virtual/Augmented reality. Initially we construct the needed 3D models like conveyors belts, and liquid tanks to be used as testbed examples for the proposed approach and afterwards with the use of the appropriate engine and the Virtual Reality headset we create the enriched virtual and augmented reality use cases to support higher education students better understand complex industrial automation concepts. As this is an initial framework proposal, an extended literature review providing the needed background information on the status and progress of the Virtual and Augmented reality for educational and not only purposes is provided. The proposed system's architecture is in detail explained and use cases where the proposed approach can be used are presented. An overview of the IEC 61499 framework is also presented since it is the underlying framework for supporting the industrial automation concepts. © 2018 IEEE.

Quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) increases the chances of survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. CPR measurement devices with real-time feedback could assist in the provision of this. Others have proposed accelerometer-based feedback systems by using specialized cards, smartwatches or hand-held smartphones. Our group have previous proposed a system that measure chest compression (CC) rate and hands-off-time utilizing a smartphone camera with a phone-on-the-floor solution. In this paper we have investigated the possibilities of also measuring the important CPR metric CC dep.h. Solutions using smartwatches or smartphones estimate CC parameters based on the bystanders movement. However, there are no reported work on analyzing different bystanders movement during CCs. In this work, a CC modelling experiment using Microsoft Kinect is performed to measure the degree of variations in CC techniques, providing knowledge on limitations when considering digital strategies for CC dep.h measurements. Although variations between the CC techniques were discovered, the results indicate that smartphone dep.h-cameras and accelerometer-sensors could in most cases be used for CC dep.h measurement with acceptable accuracy.

This work develops a compact 9 GHz microwave imaging system. The core of the system is a vector network analyzer (VNA) which utilizes range-correlation architecture to suppress the phase noise of the received signal. To overcome the bottleneck that conventional mixer-based phase detectors have limited phase detection range, a novel quadrature phase detection algorithm is proposed. The experimental results show that the microwave imaging system can well detect the bone image of a chicken wing. © 2018 IEEE.

An Abstract Argumentation Framework (AAF) is an abstract structure consisting of a set arguments, whose origin, nature, and possible internal organisation is not specified, and by a binary relation of attack on the set of arguments, whose meaning is not specified either. Subjective logic provides a standard set of logical operators, intended for use in domains containing uncertainty. In this paper, we define an extension of AAFs in which each argument and attacks is evaluated with an opinion, by revisiting the constellations approach developed for probabilistic AAFs. In this way, different agents can merge their opinions on how much arguments and attacks are "trustworthy", e.g., they do not represent fallacies or enthymemes. Finally, subjective logic operators can be used to fuse the belief of different possible worlds (i.e., a constellation of sub-graphs in the original AAF) containing different arguments and attacks.
