This study provides an innovative architectural model for e-Health systems that aims to improve cyber resilience while maintaining high availability under fluctuating traffic loads. We examined typical cybersecurity incidents in the field of e-Health, their correlations with architectural defects, and frequent design patterns in currently operational systems. A testing approach based on our research finds those weaknesses and proposes viable fixes. In this paper, a comprehensive support strategy for transitioning from conventional monolithic architectures to microservices is presented. This change makes use of cloud computing's vertical and horizontal scalability to maximize resource utilization while ensuring system reliability. We also discuss dep.oyment ideas for the new microservices, focusing on operational resilience and cybersecurity in e-Health environments. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Crossing-Preserving Geodesic Tracking on Spherical Images

In image analysis one often encounters spherical images, for instance in retinal imaging. The behavior of the vessels in the retina is an indicator of several diseases. To automate disease diagnosis using retinal images, it is necessary to develop an algorithm that automatically identifies and tracks vessels. To deal with crossings due to projected blood vessels in the image it is common to lift retinal images to the space of planar positions and orientations M2:= R2×S1. This implicitly assumes that the flat image accurately represents the geometry of the retina. As the eyeball is a sphere (and not a plane), we propose to compute the cusp-free, crossing-preserving geodesics in the space of spherical positions and orientations W2 on wide-field images. We clarify how to relate both manifolds and compare the calculated geodesics. The results show clear advantages of crossing-preserving tracking in W2 over non-crossing-preserving tracking in W2 and are comparable to tracking results in M2. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. In ongoing discussions participants tend to pick up their smart phones to retrieve relevant information for clarification, severely hampering the flow of the discussion. We introduce ambient search as a variant of information retrieval where a system unobtrusively provides relevant information snippets in the background without the need to steer devices actively. In this demo paper, we describe a first prototype of our ongoing research activities towards such a system. Copyright © 2014 by the paper's authors.

In the wake of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the countries in the world have fought to combat the spread of infection and imposed preventive measures to compel the population to social distancing, which led to a global crisis. Important strategies must be studied and identified to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus COVID-19 disease 2019. In this paper, the effect of preventive strategies on COVID-19 spread was studied, a model based on supervised data mining algorithms was presented and the best algorithm was suggested on the basis of accuracy. In this model, three classifiers (Naive Bayes, Multilayer Perceptron and J48) dep.nded on the questionnaires filled out by Basra City respondents. The questionnaires consisted of 25 questions that covered fields most related to and that affect the prevention of COVID-19 spread, including demographic, psychological, health management, cognitive, awareness and preventive factors. A total of 1017 respondents were collected. This model was developed using Weka 3.8 tool. Results showed that quarantine played an important role in controlling the spread of the disease. By comparing the accuracy of the algorithms used, the best algorithm was found to be J48. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Wavelet transform based technique for text image localization

In this paper, a robust technique based on discrete wavelet transform, edge detection, and morphology operation for scene text detection is proposed. There are several stages in the proposed method. In the first stage, a single wavelet decomposition LH, HL and HH subbands are applied for detecting edges in original scene text image. The projection technique is applied in the second stage to preliminary detect text and non-text pixels. In third stage, 4-connected components are applied, and then area geometric feature is used as threshold to remove non-text region. At last stage, morphological operations are applied to connect isolated text components and to remove non-text regions. The proposed method is applied on a various images such as images of low contrast, complex background images and images of different fonts and size of text. The experimental results show that the proposed method can detect regions of the text perfectly. © 2016 The Authors

The effect of core number and core diversity on power and performance in multicore processors

Today, multi-core processors dominate server, desktop and notebook computer's market. Such processors have been able to decrease power consumption and thermal challenges that designers face within single core processors. In order to improve multi-core processor's performance, designers should choose the best set of cores based on power consumption and execution delay. In this paper, we study several architectures that are composed of a configurable number of cores. We use three cores with different levels of performance and power consumption. Then, we implement different configurations of a multi-core processor. In each configuration, which has a different set of cores, we run benchmarks with various numbers of simultaneous threads, from 1 up to 32. Power consumption and execution delay of each configuration has been measured. It has been shown that the best configuration is a heterogeneous multi-core processor that is composed of 16 cores in our bounded area. Then, we examined various ways that threads can be assigned to different cores in the best configuration. It is shown that for serial workloads the best choice is to use high performance cores, but in parallel workloads that consist of multiple threads, a mixture of cores with different performance levels gives the best performance. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.

In this paper, a uniform calculus-based approach for synthesizing monitors checking correctness properties specified by a large variety of logics at runtime is provided, including future and past time logics, interval logics, state machine and parameterized temporal logics. We present a calculus mechanism to synthesize monitors from the logical specification for the incremental analysis of execution traces during test and real run. The monitor detects both good and bad prefix of a particular kind, namely those that are informative for the property under investigation. We elaborate the procedure of calculus as monitors. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, a new approach to terrain generation based on terrain examples is proposed. Existing procedural algorithms for generation of terrain have several shortcomings. The most popular approach, fractal-based terrain generation, is efficient, but is difficult for users to control. In this paper, we provide a semiautomatic method of terrain generation that uses a four-process genetic algorithm approach to produce a variety of terrain types using only intuitive user inputs. We allow users to specify a rough sketch of terrain silhouette map, retrieve terrain examples based on support vector machine (SVM) from the terrain dataset, cut a region from the terrain examples and fill in the terrain silhouette map. We also generate a photorealistic texture based on the aerial or satellite images. Consequently, we generate the terrain which has both geometrical data and texture data and provide a balance between user input and real-world data capture unmatched. © 2006 Springer-Verlag Berlin/Heidelberg.

With the development of telecommunication network, its large scale and complex frame work caused the relationship among mass alarms of network elements to become more and more complex. It is necessary to provide network administrator with an approach to implement alarm filtering and fault location. To meet this need, an improved FP-Growth algorithm is given with which a new model is proposed based on mining association rules. Then the paper focuses on the alarm filtering and fault location with the help of these rules. An experiment to check the model and this algorithm is introduced and analyzed at the end of the paper. © 2008 IEEE.
