In vibration-based structural health monitoring damage in structure is tried to detect from damage-sensitive features. Because neither prior information nor data about expected damage are normally available, damage detection problem must be solved by using a novelty detection approach. Features, which are sensitive to damage, are often sensitive to environmental and operational variations. Therefore elimination of these variations is essential for reliable damage detection. At present many of the damage detection methods are linear, though it has been shown that many of the vibration changes in structures are bilinear or nonlinear. This paper proposes to use nonlinear factor analysis to detect damage via elimination of external effects fromdamage features. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by analyzing the experimental Z24 Bridge data with a comparison to a linear method. It is shown that elimination of adverse effects and damage detection are feasible. ©2010 IEEE.

Demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) is often used in school buildings to save energy by modulating the airflow rates based on the demand. However, other pollutants and indoor air parameters may affect health and are not necessarily correlated to CO2. In this study investigation of correlations between PM2.5, formaldehyde, absolute humidity, CO2 and temperature are performed. Measurements of these parameters were performed between two months and one year, positioned in the supply air in four CO2-based DCV classrooms at four different schools. The time series of measurements were de-trended to avoid overestimating cross-correlation functions. From the measurements we have concluded the need to measure: 1) pollutants related to human activities (CO2) 2) pollutants that infiltrate from processes like combustion or traffic outdoors (PM2.5), and 3) parameters related to other "non-combustion-related activities" indoors, heat sources and moisture loads (temperature). Formaldehyde from building materials seems to be mostly degassed in these older than one-year buildings, but this study should be repeated on newer buildings. © 2022 17th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2022. The Web of Data is fed mainly by "triplifiers (or RDFizers)", tools able to transform content (usually from databases) to linked data. Current triplifiers implement diverse methods, and are usually based on bulk recipes, which make fixed assumptions on the domain semantics. They focus more on syntactic than on semantic transformation, and allow for limited (sometimes no) customization of the process. We present Semion, a method and a tool for triplifying content sources that overcomes such limitations. It focuses on applying good practices of design, provides high customizability of the transformation process, and exploits OWL expressivity for describing the domain of interest.

In semantic typology, colexification refers to words with multiple meanings, either related (polysemy) or unrelated (homophony). Studies of cross-linguistic colexification have yielded insights into, e.g., psychology, historical linguistics and cognitive science (Xu et al., 2020;Brochhagen and Boleda, 2022;Schapper and Koptjevskaja-Tamm, 2022;Karjus et al., 2021;François, 2022). While NLP research up until now has mainly focused on integrating syntactic typology (Naseem et al., 2012;Täckström et al., 2013;Zhang and Barzilay, 2015;Daiber et al., 2016;de Lhoneux et al., 2018;Ponti et al., 2019;Chaudhary et al., 2019;Üstün et al., 2020;Oncevay et al., 2020;Yu et al., 2021;Ansell et al., 2021;Zhao et al., 2021;Oncevay et al., 2022), we here investigate the potential of incorporating semantic typology, of which colexification is an example. We propose a framework for constructing a large-scale synset graph and learning language representations with node embedding algorithms. We demonstrate that cross-lingual colexification patterns provide a distinct signal for modelling language similarity and predicting typological features. Our representations achieve a 9.97% performance gain in predicting lexico-semantic typological features and expectantly contain a weaker syntactic signal. This study is the first attempt to learn language representations and model language similarities using semantic typology at a large scale, setting a new direction for multilingual NLP, especially for low-resource languages. © 2023 Association for Computational Linguistics.

By applying several clustering algorithms to a dataset E or the same algorithm with different parameters, we get several partitions of the dataset E. The problem of finding the best partition among these partitions is considered in this paper. The best partition, also called as consensus partition, minimizes the average number of disagreements between all the partitions. The first step consists of determining candidate consensus partitions. Then the distance between each candidate consensus partition and each of the given partitions is determined. A consensus partition is one whose total distance is minimum. Two distance criteria are used. These distances have interpretations as particular parameters of a graph called partition graph. Some properties of this graph are determined. A structurally simple graph called strong pattern graph is defined, which happens to be a perfect graph. © 2010 IEEE.

Many cultural heritage institutions are confronted with a big challenge when it comes to adapting the process of registration, annotation and digitization of their collections to meet the new technological demands for providing their collections online with Web and mobile technologies. With limited funding and limited professional resources, annotation is often lagging behind significantly in terms of quantity and level of detail. Quantity as well as quality of the annotations is the key to finding relevant objects by various groups of users in online collections. As many experiments with cultural heritage data online show, human computation can be useful for collecting large quantities of data. Various of these experimented with a crowd of lay people to help with the annotation of cultural heritage artefacts. However, a common concern relates to the resulting quality. The current trend appears to focus on supporting 'the crowd' to achieve the desired level of quality. In this paper, we discuss the results of the first phase of an evolutionary system design performed in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, as part of the SEALINCMedia project. By providing personalized support to the individuals and groups in the 'crowd' when annotating museum collection objects, we also support the integration of the annotation result in the RMA content management system. The contribution of this paper is twofold: (1) requirements specification for a crowdsourcing annotation process and (2) design of the personalization functionality in a crowdsourcing annotation system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.

This paper investigates the problem of large deflection of thin plates dep.cted by the Berger equation and presents a meshless method based on the virtual boundary collocation method (VBCM) and radial basis functions (RBF). Firstly, we convert Berger equation to a linear fourth-order iterative equation, then the approximation solution can be obtained by VBCM and RBF, hence the problem is solved by the iterated collocation method. Finally, some numerical examples are given. Numerical results have proven that our method is more efficient and performs better than the local boundary integral equation (LBIE) method. © 2011 IEEE.

Forest fires are currently the most common issue that we are dealing with. The resources that have been lost are irreplaceable. Forest fires are uncontrollable fires that occur in nature as a result of human involvement or any other natural event. Forest fires can be so large that putting them out takes a long time. Contrasting with previous years, there has been a striking surge in the frequency of forest fires. Changes in climatic conditions are the key factor affecting the scope of forest fires. Long dry spells in the spring and summer make the woodlands particularly vulnerable. The extent of forest fires is mostly determined by weather conditions such as precipitation and wind, as well as the terrain's architecture. The incorporation of a Video Fire Detection model significantly enhances the efficiency of fire detection systems, particularly in large spaces. Establishing a video fire detection system involves focusing on spatial, spectral, and temporal indicators, as well as flame picture segmentation, recognition, tracking, and prediction. Analytical techniques, specifically utilizing ResNet50 and VGG16 models, can be applied to identify pool fire images through these segmentation processes, contributing to more robust fire detection capabilities. © 2023 IEEE.
