Home appliances are designed and manufactured for the market. Most users find that APPs are installed on smartphones or tablets to control home appliances with individual APP. Even light-bulbs with different brands or models need exclusive control software to corresponding light-bulbs. Thus, the smart and intelligent technology for smart-home is difficult to use due to different brands home-appliances from different manufactures. It lacks a standard to coordinate the control way like traditional light-bulbs-based E27 specs. For the light-bulbs of home appliances as an example, the traditional light-bulbs-based E27 lamp-holder have different fixtures and power-supply. Thus, new light-bulbs of home appliances for smart-home need a complex control-way besides electronic power to achieve smart functions and remote-control based on APPs on users' smart-phone. In this research, we try to integrate the internet of thing and message queue telemetry transport (MQTT) to design a mechanism and to implement a prototype web system to achieve an instant and visualized digital light switch of smart-home to solve the problems. For the validation of this research, we used a NodeMCU-32 microcontroller unit as a micro-controller to integrate with WS2812B LED strips to design light tube and light-bulb as the proof of concept (PoC) to demonstrate it in smart-home. © 2021 IEEE.

Many real-world problems are notoriously multi-objective and NP-hard. Hence, there is a constant striving for optimizers capable of solving such problems effectively. In this paper, we examine the Multi-Objective Parameter-less Population Pyramid (MO-P3). MO-P3 is based on the Parameter-less Population Pyramid (P3) that was dedicated to solving single-objective problems. P3 employs linkage learning to decompose the problem and uses this information during its run. P3 maintains many different linkage information sets, which is the key to effectively solve the problems of the overlapping nature, i.e., the problems whose variables form a large and complicated network of dep.ndencies rather than additively separable blocks. MO-P3 inherits the features of its predecessor and employs both linkage learning and linkage diversity maintenance to effectively solve hard multi-objective problems, which includes both: well-known test problems and NP-hard real-world problems. © 2021 Owner/Author.

Maximizing lifetime throughput, i.e. increasing the total number of produced components in a pre-existing production line, is a continuous and never-ending process in industry. In order to attain a high lifetime throughput, it is important not only to have a high throughput rate during production but also to minimize production stops, both in number and time. In this paper a general Virtual Real-Time Model (VRTM) for simulating industrial production lines is proposed. The VRTM is intended to be used for off-line control software development and is aimed at maximizing lifetime throughput in highly automated production lines. The main features of the VRTM arc that the same control software is used as in the real production line and that virtual real-time is used, implying that everything is time-synchronised and works in the same way as in the real production line. An applied VRTM simulating a sheet-metal press line is also presented together with a comparison test with the no. 53 press line at Volvo Car Manufacturing in Goteborg, Sweden, in which a satisfactory agreement was obtained. The control software from the real production line that was used includes not only the pure production control, but also all security functions. This shows that the VRTM covers all control functions in the real production line and can be used for off-line control software development. © 2005 EUROSIS-ETI.

In the last decade, we have seen a significant growth in communication networks. In centralised communication networks, a central computer serves several terminals or workstations. In large networks, some concentrators are used to increase the network efficiency. A collection of terminals is connected to a concentrator and each concentrator is connected to the central computer. In this paper we propose a Hybrid Population-based Incremental Learning (HPBIL) to assign terminals to concentrators. We use this algorithm to determine the minimum cost to form a network by connecting a given collection of terminals to a given collection of concentrators. We show that HPBIL is able to achieve good solutions, improving the results obtained by previous approaches.

Following with the advancements in digitization technology and broadband communication technology, video streaming service has become an essential one for next generation Internet. When transmitting compressed video frames across the Internet, however, one of the main challenges is packet error/loss. High coding dep.ndencies among video frames suffer from vulnerability to packet loss, which impacts the playback quality. Losing an important frame may cause a set of frames loss or damage as well. In this paper, we investigate different mechanism to decide video frames important level. According to the frame important level, we formulate the unequal frame protection (UEP) problem into optimal resource allocation problem to maximize the playback quality in client. The simulation results reveal that the proposed optimal resource allocation has better performance improvement than other frame protection schemes in term of playback quality under different bit error rate. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a method of face detection based on feature analysis and edge detection against skin colorlike backgrounds. The proposed method consists of three phases including image preprocessing, skin color segmentation, and determination of face candidates. First, the objects in foreground are separated by image preprocessing. Second, the non-skin color objects are rejected by the method of skin color segmentation. Finally, both the elimination of skin color-like blobs in backgrounds and face detection are performed by the method of determination of face candidates. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect most of faces in skin color-like backgrounds. In addition, detection of face images with pose and expression variations or against dark backgrounds are also carried out. © 2010 IEEE.

RND (Radio Network Design) is an important problem in mobile telecommunications (for example in mobile/cellular telephony), being also relevant in the rising area of sensor networks. This problem consists in covering a certain geographical area by using the smallest number of radio antennas achieving the biggest cover rate. To date, several radio antenna models have been used: square coverage antennas, omnidirectional antennas that cover a circular area, etc. In this work we use omnidirectional antennas. On the other hand, RND is an NP-hard problem;therefore its solution by means of evolutionary algorithms is appropriate. In this work we study different evolutionary approaches to tackle this problem. PBIL (Population-Based Incremental Learning) is based on genetic algorithms and competitive learning (typical in neural networks). DE (Differential Evolution) is a very simple population-based stochastic function minimizer used in a wide range of optimization problems, including multi-objective optimization. SA (Simulated Annealing) is a classic trajectory descent optimization technique. Finally, CHC is a particular class of evolutionary algorithm which does not use mutation and relies instead on incest prevention and disruptive crossover. Due to the complexity of such a large analysis including so many techniques, we have used not only sequential algorithms, but also grid computing with BOINC in order to execute thousands of experiments in only several days using around 100 computers. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

Techniques for both exploratory and known item search tend to direct only to more specific subtopics or individual documents, as opposed to allowing directing the exploration of the information space. We present an interactive information retrieval system that combines Reinforcement Learning techniques along with a novel user interface design to allow active engagement of users in directing the search. Users can directly manipulate document features (keywords) to indicate their interests and Reinforcement Learning is used to model the user by allowing the system to trade off between exploration and exploitation. This gives users the opportunity to more effectively direct their search nearer, further and following a direction. A task-based user study conducted with 20 participants comparing our system to a traditional query-based baseline indicates that our system significantly improves the effectiveness of information retrieval by providing access to more relevant and novel information without having to spend more time acquiring the information. The purpose of this paper is to design and implement the remote control lab using PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). This system integrates different fields of technology. They are Internet control, mobile control, and e-learning. We expend the e-learning to m-learning (mobile-learning). The wired control will become wireless control. Thus, the teaching will not be limited by time and location, and teaching resources and equipments can be integrated and shared, so the safety events can be monitored and handled in time. We provide an environment to train students to handle factory automation, data acquisition, data management, and manufacturing process using mobile devices. In addition, we also emphasize the integration and sharing of teaching equipments via internet and provide an environment which promotes learning interests and efficiency by using mobile devices via Internet. © 2005 IEEE.
