The logico-pluralist LOGIKEY knowledge engineering methodology and framework is applied to the modelling of a theory of legal balancing in which legal knowledge (cases and laws) is encoded by utilising context-dep.ndent value preferences. The theory obtained is then used to formalise, automatically evaluate, and reconstruct illustrative property law cases (involving appropriation of wild animals) within the Isabelle/HOL proof assistant system, illustrating how LOGIKEY can harness interactive and automated theorem proving technology to provide a testbed for the development and formal verification of legal domain-specific languages and theories. The positioning accuracy of various kinds of devices is often calculated by using Wi-Fi fingerprints as a data source of Received Signal Strength (RSS). Through different matching algorithms, these RSS values are related to corresponding positioning coordinates for positioning estimation. In this paper, we compare two well known Machine Learning (ML) structures for calculating positioning accuracy: Recurrent Neural Network-Long Short-Term Memory (RNN-LSTM) and a Decision Tree (DT). Both matching algorithms run through a series of datasets in two parts. In the first part, the datasets contain raw, non-normalized RSS values. In the second part, the RSS values are all normalized to remove noise in the datasets. After extensive testing and simulations, the tests showed that as long as RSS values are first normalized, a Decision Tree offers better average positioning accuracy. © 2020 IEEE.

An important issue in quadcopter control is that an accurate dynamic model of the system is nonlinear, complex, and costly to obtain. This limits achievable control performance in practice. Gaussian process (GP) based estimation is an effective tool to learn unknown dynamics from input/output data. However, conventional GP-based control methods often ignore the computational cost associated with accumulating data during the operation of the system and how to handle forgetting in continuous adaption. In this paper, we present a novel Dual Gaussian Process (DGP) based model predictive control strategy that improves the performance of a quadcopter during trajectory tracking. The bio-inspired DGP structure is a combination of a long-term GP and a short-term GP, where the long-term GP is used to keep the learned knowledge in memory and the short-term GP is employed to rapidly compensate unknown dynamics during online operation. Furthermore, a novel recursive online update strategy for the short-term GP is proposed to successively improve the learnt model during online operation in an efficient way. This paper presents the short circuit performance of a novel SiC circuit breaker device, which is based on the “thyristor dual” functionality. The developed device structure is motivated with regard to manufacturing aspects and electrical requirements. Furthermore, the basic “thyristor dual” operation is elaborated on the basis of quasi-static electrical measurements of a fabricated prototype. The proposed self-sensing and self-triggering devices make auxiliary circuitry like sensors and micro-controllers expendable and practically have no propagation delay. As a result, short circuit clearance within 122 ns at 800 V is demonstrated in experiments. Moreover, by utilisation of a third device terminal, a temporary current limiter functionality can be obtained. The scalability of the current limit value is discussed on the basis of measurements in time domain. The maximum current limit value achieved is 7.4 times higher than the trigger current level of the circuit breaker device. Additionally, the same circuit configuration which is used for the current limiting mode, allows to remotely reset the circuit breaker after it turned to blocking-state. This opens up a wide range of possibilities to enhance the circuit breaker with intelligent functionalities.

A discrete-time reputation-based resilient consensus algorithm for synchronous or asynchronous communications

We tackle the problem of a set of agents achieving resilient consensus in the presence of attacked agents. We present a discrete-time reputation-based consensus algorithm for synchronous and asynchronous networks by developing a local strategy where, at each time, each agent assigns a reputation (between zero and one) to each neighbor. The reputation is then used to weigh the neighbors' values in the update of its state. Under mild assumptions, we show that: (i) the proposed method converges exponentially to the consensus of the regular agents;(ii) if a regular agent identifies a neighbor as an attacked node, then it is indeed an attacked node;(iii) if the consensus value of the normal nodes differs from that of any of the attacked nodes' values, then the reputation that a regular agent assigns to the attacked neighbors goes to zero. Further, we extend our method to achieve resilience in the scenarios where there are noisy nodes, dynamic networks and stochastic node selection. Finally, we illustrate our algorithm with several examples, and we delineate some attacking scenarios that can be dealt by the current proposal but not by the state-of-the-art approaches. New paths to increase the sensing performance of plasmonic sensors have been reported in recent years. There are several methodologies to achieve such purpose, namely by optimizing the nanostructure, nanomaterial and even the sensing platform. Recently the use nanoparticles over plasmonic thin films have been reported and shown sensitivity enhancement, when compared to a bare thin film. Nevertheless, a nanomaterial combination between NP and thin film has not been studied. In this work it was studied such plasmonic materials in order to optimize not only refractometric sensitivity but also decrease the resultant plasmonic band width. It was found that for Au, Ag and Cu thin films, the dep.sition of plasmonic nanoparticles resulted in an overall refractometric sensitivity and figure of merit (FOM) increase. The larger FOM increase was obtained for the Ag thin film, from 42 to 162 when coupled to Si nanoparticles. The greater sensitivity increase was achieved for a Cu thin film coupled to a Si nanoparticle, with an increase from 1745 to 3230 nm/RIU. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The electric power system is quickly changing due to the growing penetration of intermittent and non-dispatchable renewable energy sources. Simultaneously, the demand should ideally be able to be adapted to the renewable generation availability, directly with demand response or indirectly using energy storage technologies. The transport sector with electric vehicles (EVs) is increasingly an important consumer of electricity, and as fleets increase, EVs can be used as controllable loads, charging in periods of high renewable generation or low prices, using the Grid to Vehicle (G2V) system. With adequate technology, in addition to absorbing power from the grid, EVs can also use some of their storage capacity to inject energy into the grid, in order to ensure the balance between the generation and demand, using the Vehicle to Grid (V2G) system. However, the additional charging cycles due to V2G will accelerate the degradation of batteries and therefore its associated cost must be taken into account. This paper discusses the technologies and methodologies for the implementation of Grid to Vehicle and Vehicle to Grid systems, as well as their potential benefits for the grid in a scenario with large-scale penetration of renewable generation. To assess such impact a case study for the Portuguese grid is presented, considering three scenarios of penetration of EVs in the Portuguese vehicle fleet (in which EVs constitute 10 %, 25 % or 50 % of the fleet). The obtained data allowed to assess the potential of V2G to transfer the generation surplus between hours of low and high demand. Additionally, the economic benefits from the grid and user point-of-views were assessed considering the degradation of the batteries (evaluated through a model developed in Simulink environment), associated with the use of V2G, and their replacement cost. During an intense activity, such as marathon or bicycle training, body is subjected to a high physical stress. This brings the performance decreasing, given by several factors such as reduction of body hydration. Low hydration gives a loss of body cooling's efficiency on which athlete's performance capabilities dep.nd. Body hydration monitoring devices have poor accuracy and moreover it's very difficult to find them on the market. In this work we do not aspire to the production of a hydration sensor, but rather we want to analyse and identify possible measures related to body hydration, acquired during a running and not yet observed in literature. For these reasons, we present an acquisition system to collect data from whether, subject performance and saliva, an experimentation protocol and features relevance analysis. The preliminary results shown in this work are obtained using the Bio-electric Impedance Analysis as benchmark measure of body hydration.

Several approaches to forecasting agricultural production have been used across the country, but they have focused on information widely detected with technology that was not very successful. Unfortunately, because of many difficulties such as climate variables (50% global fog cover) with limited temporal accuracy, the remotely detected information necessary to predict crop production was often insufficient. As a result of these problems, existing methods of estimating agricultural production are ineffective or out of date. Several efforts have been made to overcome these challenges by combining images with high temporal accuracy but poor geographic detail. On the other hand, it is this kind of situation that is most suitable for extremely large and homogeneous agricultural areas. An innovative theoretical framework has developed that explains this absence of high-quality satellite images. This intelligent method was built around this new theoretical framework, which incorporates its use of something like the energy equation to improve the predictions of multiple cultures. Many producers were contacted and data regarding agricultural production were obtained to validate the results of the smart technology. The excellent reliability of this intelligent method has been shown by a comparative contrast between projected crop yields and actual output in various areas.

The task of estimating, tracking and controlling the speed of user equipment (UE), particularly with speed above allowed limits, is a challenge which has a significant impact on radio resource and mobility management in Long Term Evolution (LTE). This is very essential to control the speed and avoid traffic accidents with the help of the LTE networks application. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that relies on transmitting Channel Quality Indicator CQI bits through LTE network's to remote IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) application server to analyze and to map the UE speed and to determine if the UE is above the speed limit. The paper presents a new approach to estimate, track, and control users moving above speed limits in LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks using mapping of the uplink CQI index of the UE since the CQI range can provide an indication to the system regarding the movement and the speed of the UE. The approach can be achieved by sending an emergency warning message to the evolved base station (eNB) that sends a downlink (DL) signal to the control channel to activate a radio frequency identification (RFID) unit mounted on the car. The mapping system via the RFID sends a control signal to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), traction control (TC), electronic stability program (ESP) and automatic brake system (ABS) mounted in the car to reduce the speed if the alarm is activated to the inattentive driver. The proposed system has been simulated and evaluated using the Vienna system level simulator. The results show that the estimation of the CQI is dropped significantly to (2-3) as the UEs speed is increased to 150 km/h. Thus, with the availability of estimation of CQI at LTE-A networks, action can be made to warn or reduce the UE speed. Finally, the proposed system can be utilized in recent and future trends of controlling smart cars for long range as the 5G-Internet of Things (IoT) tries deeply to accomplish this system but for short range. © 2018 IEEE.
