Each node equipped with multiple interfaces in multi-channel wireless mesh networks can increase the network throughput when applied to appropriate channel assignment and routing protocols. In this paper, we analyze the channel assignment and channel switching problems in WMN where the number of interfaces is smaller than the number of channels. Ripple effect caused by channel switching is presented. The method to restrict the distance of ripple effect and to balance the load among channels is given. We also advance the Weighted Expected Residual Transmission Rate (WERTR) - a load-aware routing metric - to select a best quality route which is suitable for use with our proposed channel assignment strategy. © 2010 IEEE.

The capacity problem is one of the main issues in researching the multi-channel IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. In this paper, we analyze the path capacity of the multi-channel wireless networks by estimating the RTS, CTS and the packet loss rate of the wireless links and calculating the average service time of the packet sending. We also analyze the channel assignment and channel switching problems and present the Neighborhood Channel Concentration Degree (NCCD) mechanism which can distribute network load into the available channels and increase the total throughput of the network. We use ns-2 as the simulator to simulate the network throughput using our NCCD and compare with the throughput of the MCR mechanism. The results show that NCCD can significantly increase the network throughput. © 2010 IEEE.

The analysis and characterization of biomedical image data is a complex procedure involving several processing phases, like data acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. The proper combination and parameterization of the utilized methods are heavily relying on the given image data set and experiment type and may thus require advanced image processing and classification knowledge from the side of the biomedical expert. In this work, an application, exploiting web services and applying ontological modeling, is presented, to enable the intelligent creation of image mining workflows. The described tool can be directly integrated to the Rapid-Miner or similar workflow management platforms. A case study dealing with the creation of a sample workflow for kidney biopsy microscopy images analysis is presented to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed framework. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents the fuzzy modeling approach to the description QV curve of power system for analysis of voltage stability. Voltage instability of power system comes from increasing load rapidly, and causes bus voltage to drop. When voltage is out of control and it can be voltage collapse. The QV curve can identify voltage stability limit, and it determine robustness of power system. The method of fuzzy modeling has been proven to be well-suited for modeling nonlinear industrial processes described by input-output data. In view of the nonlinear characteristic of the QV curve, the method of fuzzy modeling is employed for representing the curve. The fuzzy system model is basically a collection of fuzzy IF-THEN rules that are combined via fuzzy reasoning for describing the features of a system under study. Based on the Sugeno-type fuzzy model, various models with different numbers of modeling rules are used to describing the QV curve. It is found that such fuzzy model offers both quantitative and qualitative descriptions for the QV curve.

This paper presents the design of modal insensitivity for the synchronous generator in a power system using Eigenstructure Assignment. In the proposed design procedure, modal insensitivity of generator is achieved by assigning system eigenstructure and only algebraic computations are involved. Model insensitivity means that the concerned system mode shape is insensitive to small variations in the system. From the simulation results of the study in a single-machine-infinite-bus system are certified. It is found that the system damping has been greatly improved. The proposed design has improved on the sensitivity.

This paper used six formulas for power factor measurement, and they will be different according to the characteristics of load. The power quality is more and more serious, because a lot of information technology equipments and power electric converters were used in recent years. Harmonic and load unbalance can affect the measurement result of power factor of utility. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to analyze the six formula of power factor. The simulation system was modeled in Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and some novel IP (intellectual property) cores, such as CORDIC core and FFT core by the way of Bottom-Up. The technology of semiconductor was more and more maturely. Design of SOC (System On a Chip) is a trend to achieve the strong and small volume in the future. The measurement data were employed to calculate active, reactive and apparent power. The average error rate of our design is about 0.05%.

Acquisition of pervasive sensor data can be often unsuccessful due to power outage at nodes, time synchronization issues, interference, network transmission failures or sensor hardware issues. Such failures can lead to inadequate data delivery to the monitoring applications resulting in erroneous conclusions. This paper presents a missing values substitution framework that addresses the aforementioned issue. The presented framework has been evaluated within a pervasive sensor monitoring environment that collects and transmits patient health related data and results have been presented. As the number of cores in a processor increases, asymmetrically distributed memory architecture is expected to become widely adopted. Running an application program effectively in a distributed fashion on asymmetric memory architecture is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a novel load balancing technique for multi-core systems with asymmetric memory architectures. The proposed method uses probabilistic information on the expected execution time of the child processes for each parent process. Also, to maximize the load balancing effect with low cost, the proposed method groups processes, and treats each group as a load balancing unit. The trade-off between load balancing effect of each load balancing unit and the cost is taken into account. To show the effectiveness of this paper, we present test cases in which the proposed method show better performance than that of existing load balancing methods. ©2010 IEEE.

Design of accurate power factor measurement approach using FPGA-based chip

In recent years, power electronic components introduce harmonic pollution on electric power systems. It makes the traditional electromechanical power meter can not act accurately when it feeds unbalanced and harmonic loads. Power quality analysis now tends to use digital signal technology. But it is hard to avoid measurement errors in estimating power quality by digital signal technology. In this paper, it is to improve the computation errors by using FPGA. The simulation circuits were created and measured by Matlab. Then it will discuss the case of single-phase full-wave bridge rectifier loads. And then in the three-phase circuit the effective power factor, arithmetic power factor, and fundamental power factor will be compared in several simulation cases. The computation errors have been greatly reduced. In the study, the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to analyze the formula of power factor.
