In this paper we present an innovative approach to support efficient large scale video annotation by exploiting the crowdsourcing. In particular, we collect big noisy annotations by an on-line Flash game which aims at taking photos of objects appearing through the game levels. The data gathered (suitably processed) from the game is then used to drive image segmentation approaches, namely the Region Growing and Grab Cut, which allow us to derive meaningful annotations. A comparison against hand-labeled ground truth data showed that the proposed approach constitutes a valid alternative to the existing video annotation approaches and allow a reliable and fast collection of large scale ground truth data for performance evaluation in computer vision. © 2013 ACM.

In this paper we present a tool for the generation of ground-truth data for object detection, tracking and recognition applications. Compared to state of the art methods, such as ViPER-GT, our tool improves the user experience by providing edit shortcuts such as hotkeys and drag-and-drop, and by integrating computer vision algorithms to automate, under the supervision of the user, the extraction of contours and the identification of objects across frames. A comparison between our application and ViPER-GT tool was performed, which showed how our tool allows users to label a video in a shorter time, while at the same time providing a higher ground truth quality. © 2012 ACM.

Semiconductor supply chain industry is spread worldwide to reduce cost and to meet the electronic systems high demand for ICs, and with the era of internet of things (IoT), the estimated numbers of electronic devices will rise over trillions. This drift in the semiconductor supply chain produces high volume of e-waste, which affects integrated circuits (ICs) security and reliability through counterfeiting, i.e., recycled and remarked ICs. Utilising recycled IC as a new one or a remarked IC to upgrade its level into critical infrastructure such as defence or medical electronics may cause systems failure, compromising human lives and financial loss. This paper harvests aging degradation induced by BTI and HCI, observing frequency and discharge time affected by changes in drain current and sub-threshold leakage current over time, respectively. Such task is undertaken by Cadence simulations, implementing a 51-stage ring oscillator (51-RO) using 22nm CMOS technology library and aging model provided by GlobalFoundries (GF). Machine learning (ML) algorithm of support vector regression (SVR) is adapted for this application, using a training process that involves operating temperature, discharge time, frequency, and aging time. The data sampling is performed over an emulated 12 years period with four representative temperatures of 20° C, 40° C, 60° C, and 80° C with additional testing data from temperatures of 25° C and 50° C. The results demonstrate a high accuracy on aging estimation by SVR, reported as a normal distribution with the mean (μ) equal to 0.01 years (3.6 days) and a standard deviation (σ) of ±0.1 years (±36 days). © 2021 IEEE.

This technical report is a researched document that examines energy access in Rwanda, focusing on energy poverty assessment and energy demand assessment. The key findings and observations can help mitigate the energy access problems and improve access to modern energy in Rwanda. Studies have shown that sub-Saharan African countries have poor access or no access to modern energy, Rwanda being part of sub-Saharan Africa also has Poor access to modern and clean energy. To carefully study these energy access problems and proffer solutions to increase energy access in Rwanda based on realities in today's Africa, (where most households fall below poverty lines, with social issues, low Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and Gross Domestic Power (GDP)), an assessment of these energy problems is done based on Energy Poverty Assessment (EPA) and Energy Demand Assessment (EDA) Composite Multidimensional Indicators (CMDI), respectively. Based on the findings of this research, non-poor energy households increased their energy consumption by 29.26% to 0.68 billion kWh. The clean cooking gas usage in Rwanda is very low at 2.1%, The 2016 estimated electricity consumption is 0.5273 billion kWh, growing by 57.41% to 0.83 billion kWh for energy-poor households in 2021, compared to 52.6% predicted by International Energy Agency (IEA). Finally, there is a direct relationship between energy access and economic development including quality of life, standard of living, per capita income, urbanization, modern infrastructure, etc. Thus, the key findings and observations in this research report will improve economic and infrastructural development in Rwanda, if implemented. © 2023 IEEE.

Internet of Things (IOT) has its importance in the field of data exchange and control, makes great effects when applied in the fitness field. Applying IOT technology in fitness field could introduce an auto judge for fitness competitions by counting the repetitions of any exercise accurately, and exchange data with an accurate preprepared data base. In this paper a novel fitness auto referee (FAR) system has been presented. This system could be emerged as a specialized groundbreaking assistive technology to enhance the accuracy of fitness competitions results validation. The algorithm of the presented system relies on the distinctive physical properties, gender, and age of each player as inputs. The golden ratio or the golden number 1.618 has been employed in this system to locate sensors accurately, also to count the correct repetitions as function of the player tall. This system has the ability to deal with multiplayers simultaneously indoor or outdoor. Last but not least it provides a flexible means to carry out exercises with different groups (males/females - special forces/combat forces - adults/children - athletes/nonathletes. etc.) accurately within a short period of time. © 2024 IEEE.

Recursive Auto-Regressive (AR) identification algorithms, applied to the study of Heart rate Variability (HRV), allow to investigate transient biological phenomena. Each time the AR parameters are updated, the positions of poles must be evaluated in order to quantify frequency and power of spectral peaks by means of a spectral decomposition based on the residual integration method. We describe a recursive method for pole tracking that estimate the new pole positions on the basis of the AR parameters variations, in a more efficient way than traditional factorization algorithms. The method is suitable for an on-line monitoring of traditional HRV parameters, which measure the symphato-vagal balance elicited by the control mechanisms of cardiovascular system.

This paper presents a generalized direct power control (DPC) scheme for grid connected multilevel converters. The proposed method extends the original DPC operating principle by considering only for selection the closest vectors to the present switching state. This approach requires the power derivatives for feedback, which can present numerical implementation problems in real time. Therefore a grid virtual flux based observer is proposed to overcome this issue. The proposed method is applicable to any multilevel converter topology of any number of levels. In this paper simulations results are presented for a 9 level cascaded H-bridge converter. The proposed solution enables DPC for multilevel converters used in medium voltage applications while improving overall power quality and efficiency of the system. ©2010 IEEE.

Different species classifier based on hemoglobin sequences

Large-scale analysis studies of genetic sequence data are in progress around the world;one of these studies is to recognize the type of the species that the sequence belongs to. This is very important especially when the source of the sequence is unknown. The complete genome sequence of the hemoglobin provides an excellent basis for studying the clustering of different species. In this paper 13 different species classifier based on hemoglobin sequence has been introduced. Two different classifiers also have been introduced;one of them based on neural network and the other based on extracting 84 pattern feature from the DNA sequence of hemoglobin with the Euclidean distance technique. Both classifiers gave 100% for success recognition of the 13 different species. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.

Recently, cloud computers are widely used due to the development of computing environment and network speed. Unikernel is considered to be an attractive operating system in the manycore environment that effectively provides cloud computers. HalVM is a unikernel coded in Haskell. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Haskell running in a unikernel, which has shown good parallel programming performance in a manycore environment. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Haskell running in a unikernel, while Haskell has shown good performance in a manycore environment. To do this, we select HaLVM as the target operating system and analyze the performance by testing various Haskell parallel programming models. Test result shows that HaLVM is scalable only on IVC. We also implement a library to make programming with IVC more convenient, and use this library to compare extensibility experiments. Our test shows HaLVM's scalability is 112.42% higher than Linux environment. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As computers with manycore architecture are being widely spread, parallel programming becomes a pending issue. While parallel programming has been a challenging issue, Haskell is known to be of the best available one. The immutability and declarative nature of Haskell suit well the need for parallelism. In our previous work, we implemented the SAM, a parallel programming model based on Haskell. In this paper, we propose the SSAM, an updated version of SAM, by solving the performance overhead of SAM socket. We discuss the architecture of SSAM and its major functions and show the 14% scalability upgrade in a performance test. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
